========= Soldier Of Heaven LYRICS ==========
    I won’t be coming home
    I won’t be going anywhere
I will guard this post forever
Here on the alpine slope where I did my final stand I shall remain
Among the ice and snow that binds me to this mountain
A force of nature too strong, sent from above
Where spirits lead the way, the winds will never fade
    White Friday, I’ll take the
    Stairway to heaven
I’m sky high, when I die
    I’ll be immortal
    Forever, I never
    I won´t return to
    Blood Mountain, I am the
    Soldier of heaven
I saw the end of war
I watched the soldiers come and go
And I kept my watch forever
So many brave men fell in the battles that were raging down below
I have seen it all but none will hear my story
All of these years I have been frozen in time
I cried for spring to come but here, winter remain
I always dreamed that I would, serve high above
Where spirits lead the way, the winds will never fade

INTRESTING FACT: The austrian chief of staff decided to send many hungarian soliders to the italian front (Isonzo, and the alpine) The hungarian battalions mostly camed from the Hungarian Great plains, like the city of Debrecen and the country side, I read a memory book from a solider who remember that back home the highest point he ever saw was the 1-2 meter tall dirt wall which the rail track was on..... Then they sended them to the 2500+ meter high mountains

what was also very interesting about the alpine front is that the first soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian empire who got there had to go up the mountains to the frontline by day and return down under the cover of night and that over and over again till further reinforcements arrived to make italian spies believe way more soldiers where stationed there then where actually there. The forces that also helped to a great amount where the "Tiroler Standschützen" an armed militia from Tirol that still exists today. the hungarian battailions where sent there because they where available and sadly the specialised alpine troops where stuck on the russian frontline at the beginning.

It's yet another beautiful song all the same. Just like the rest of Sabaton's songs. They all have the ability to stir up a barrage of emotions.....from sadness to anger to pure love and respect at the freedoms those brave men and women gave their lives to pass on.
I remember tracing one of my family tree back to my great grandad. He took a bullet to the throat, all while dragging his wounded comrade back to the trenches. Both lives were saved, although my great grandad was quite funny when he wanted to tell my dad off. He had his voice box removed, so he could only whisper to people when he was angry with them. If you can imagine a man with the usual angry facial expressions and just as you think he's about to yell at you, out comes a pathetic little whisper LOL.
BTW my great grandad was the inspiration for me to carry on as normal until I absolutely have to be carried out to the A&E unit (which is our county 10-30 mile-from here local, but is going to be shut down, so anyone with an emergency case will have to go 50 mile down the road.......by which time they may well be dead by then). It's f**king stupid.
In Wales, our equivalent to your Commonwealth (so Canada, NZ, Australia etc) PM is our First Minister Mark Drakeford.......so your FM would be Scott Morrison, then there would be the MP's for the different regions. Where you would have Dan Slick-Back-No-Balls for the state of Victoria etc, We'd have Stephen Crabb (MP for Preseli-Pembrokeshire, in the UK). A good looking face, but totally of no substance when it comes to working for the people.
Substance is the key. If I was an MP, I'd only be taking my expenses......not my salary, and definitely not the amount it would take to have me in the HoC (House of Commons). As you can gather, the HoL would mean the House of Lords. There's only a very elite few I would consider as worthy as holding the position of the title.

As a descendant of a soldier who fought in the front through the alps, thank you for singing about this. The conditions are still fresh in our minds(my ancestor fought on the Austro-Hungarian side as we're from Slovenia). The conditions were impossible and the artillery strikes commonly triggered snow avalanches which covered many soldiers from both sides. It was so terrible that if I remember correctly they seized fighting just so no one would be lost in them. Digging trences into hard rock was hard work.

While based on a specific event, without context, it seems a song about those soldiers from all nations and country who perished, or never returned home.
War is a cruel thing, and, with little exception, those who died fighting them did not deserve their lives divorced from the earth.
Let all those who have fought with honor and dignity find a measure of harmony in their rest forevermore, and their spirits make peace among all others who have passed in the line of duty, regardless of the banners and borders that once divided them in the life that came before.

Great song on a little known topic.
On the topic of last stands, I'd love a song on the battle of Saragarhi.
21 Sikhs held back 10,000 Afghans and killed 600 before being killed, in a defiant last stand that bought time for the nearby forts to reinforce and prepare for the attack.
The only battle in history where every combatant on one side received the highest possible commendation for valour, the Indian Order of Merit.

On the 13th December 1916, 270 Austro-Hungarian soldiers perished in an avalanche on mount Marmaloda, after both sides reportedly used artillery on the frozen peaks in attempt to bury each other in snow. 51 of the 321 men in the barracks survived.
230 of the soldiers who died are still buried in snow, presumably preserved like Ötzi the Iceman, who died in a similar avalanche in the same mountains after fighting other men.
10000 men on the Italian front died in avalanches that winter, crushed beneath snow, freezing rock, and ice.

I love how when I listen to almost any of Sabaton songs, I get this strange awe inspiring feeling, mixed with both hope and fear… like my bottom lip goes numb, as if I’m about to cry, but I also can’t help but smile for some reason. Especially if I read or know the lyrics. This is very concerning, cause I must listen to them again and again to get that feeling ❤

I truly hope Sabaton does a song about the 100th Battalion/442nd Infantry division, an all Japanese-American segregated unit. The 100th was composed almost entirely of Nisei, 2nd generation Japanese-Americans from Hawaii who jumped at the opportunity to prove their loyalty, with one of their official mottos being "Remember Pearl Harbor". I mention them here because, due to suspicion of their loyalties, they were deployed primarily in the European theater, (mainly the mountains of Italy) with one of their most famous exploits being their capture of Monte Cassino after being ordered on what was effectively a suicide mission, then the rescue of the Texan "Lost Battalion" where they lost several men for each man they ultimately rescued. Last I checked, the 100th remains the most decorated unit in US military history, largely due to so many purple hearts being issued to men used as cannon fodder.

Thank you for the songs that you produce. When we forget those who have fought on either side of a conflict, we do ourselves a disservice as well as cheapening the ideals that good men and women have laid down their lives for. War should always be a last resort. After it is necessary, however, then we shame ourselves if we forget those who stood the line.

Another badass song! I love your style of basically giving a history lesson on battles through music. My late grandfather was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in ww2 because when he and his men were approaching Luxembourg and disarming land mines (he was a combat engineer), the mounds of what they thought was just ground turned out to be nazi bunkers. Nazis opened up on him and his men and they all took cover but he knew they had to move so he ran towards the bunkers and tossed his grenades in and killed the nazis. He told my mom he isn’t worth of the Distinguished Service Cross because he lost a 3rd of his Platoon that day. He was a First Lieutenant in the 135th combat battalion.

Without a doubt, you guys are the bards of the 21st century. Singing tales of great heroes from ages past and telling stories that need to be remembered... And judging by some of the wild, amazing, and tragic stories you already dug up... I look forward to seeing if you give WWI as many albums and songs as you gave WWII. So many stories to tell that just get glossed over...

    Idea for Sabaton:
They should release their songs the day the event happened. If it's about a person, they post the song on that person's birthday.

It's believed that over 10,000 people (mostly Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers) died from avalanches in the Alps in the month of December 1916, with 2,000 deaths on White Friday alone. Sabaton brings so many forgotten stories and the soldiers involved back into the light where they belong. This is a fantastic tribute to soldiers who endured the closest thing possible to a frozen hell.
