    As I said before this was recorded before the last video I uploaded. But i hope you still guys enjoy! Note: I agree that ilia is not the full package, as his skating leaves a lot to be desired, and is why I wish Shoma Uno had skated clean enough to win. But I am still excited about Ilia Malinin's win as it will only motivate him to grow and become a better skater

    I really hate how kaori's talents are being diminished because she doesn't do a 3A or quad. "They" forget how much strength it takes to have fabulous SS and centered spins and a long running edge out of a jump. Kaori isn't even my fave, but to see her belittled is very sad.

      Couldn't agree more, and I've noticed the judges rarely give her the full GOE score she deserves on that double axel too! NO-ONE does a 2A like her. Not even close!!

    • @savanahbabyyyy

      Her talent is diminished due to not being called on her flutz and 3/4 pre-rotation. Korea's Chaeyon Kim has a true clear outside edge lutz with minimal pre-rotation. Kaori is being over scored for a flutz with 3/4 pre-rotation. A 3A and quad are the least of her problems. Her bad technique being overlooked/ignored by the judges compared to better skaters is an issue.

    Is Ilia's 4A impressive? Yes.
    Is he a GOAT? No.
    Words have meaning and there needs to be A LOT done before he is even close to a GOAT, hell even a prince. He lacks maturity, which is normal considering he is a kid (who needs media training, as we have seen). Overhyping him will only cause what has happened one too many times - burning out, which could happen again on the Olympic stage and then everyone will go "ou what a shame". Let him cook. Let him actually develop an artistic style, a feel for music and well earn the words thrown at his feet since ISU is trying to keep relevancy.

      4A is impossible for all humans except him. He is the GOAT of jumping. He can improve his dancing on ice easily, but everyone else will never improve their jumps if they are already past 17.

    • @JS-rb4kc
      @JS-rb4kc 11 місяців тому

      @savanahbabyyyy Skating skills are more than just "dancing on ice" if that were the case a discipline like ice dance would be significantly easier than all the other disciplines to break into but it is just as hard. Skating skills are more than just artistry. It's the control of your edges, your steps, your turns - it's how much precision you have while moving your blades across the ice. That can be taught, but that does mean it is not a difficult skill to master. I think it may be somewhat more difficult for him because he also has to focus on maintaining the difficulty and consistency of his jumps as well. That requires a lot of strength and stamina. I think it is possible for him if he strives for balance, but we can only wait and see.
      And people can most definitely improve their jumps past 17 - although it is obviously easier to improve jump technique when you are young it does not mean that it is impossible when you're older. If that were the case, Kurt Browning would not have been able to land the first quad in a competition - he was 5 years older than Ilia at 22. Midori Ito, who landed the first ever triple axel in a women's competition, was 19 years of age when she landed it. Elvis Stokjo not only landed the first quad-double jump combination at the age of 19 but even went on to improve and land a quad-triple combination at the age of 25. But according to your comment, these skaters would not have been able to improve their jumps past the age of 17. I think you may need to review skating history and check your facts.

      @@JS-rb4kc No it is near IMPOSSIBLE to improve jump technique. IMPOSSIBLE. Look at Shoma's jumps. ZERO improvement over many years. Go look at Kaori's "full blade assist" low pic and her cheated flutz. ZERO improvement in her entire career since childhood in that horrible technique.
      If you are taught jumps wrong as a child you are screwed. Royally screwed. No fixing it.
      To improve jumps you must restart at zero. Who is going to do that? Who is dumb enough to do that? Who has time? Nobody.
      Not even Shoma and kaori are dumb enough to change their terrible jump technique. They will live with that flaw forever being a shameful red spot over their career.
      When did I say skating skills is dancing on ice?
      I said he can improve his dancing on ice which is what Shoma is doing to wow everyone....
      The discipline with the strongest skating skills by the way is ICE DANCE whose priority is DANCING on the ice and not jumps.
      Shoma's dancing on ice is great.
      Skating skills is only one small part of several parts of PCS. It's not the entire thing, and not the most important either.
      By the way Ilia has very good skating skills. Look at his feet only. Fast, smooth, minimal crossovers just like Shoma. Smooth glide. Ilia covers so much ice with greater speed. He has good actual SKATING SKILLS.
      What you are looking for is performance.
      Shoma is a much better performer with better choreography and dance ability and use of fluid upper body movement which isn't skating skills at all.
      Actually look at Malinin's feet not his upper body. It's great with smoother transitions than Shoma covering much more ice.
      Ilia's upper body is stiffer and less dynamic than Shoma who uses a lot of variety.
      It's better to be an amazing performer than actually have superb skating skills just ask Yuna Kim with horrible skating skills and the ugliest crossovers (Mao had the superior skating skills. If skating skills were the #1 point for PCS Yuna would never beat Mao).
      Great performance and musicality is the true king/queen of PCS not skating skills which is what save many skaters with actual poor skating skills. Ilia has great skating skills and decent to almost lack luster performance/dance ability compared to Shoma and even Kevin Amos.
      If you have great skating skills but ZERO sense of rhythm/musicality and zero performance skills the ISU will shove you at the bottom. Malinin is not the best performer at all (Shoma is the closest at the moment) but he is decent enough to pass and not be shoved all the way at the bottom.
      Many of you guys are pretending singles skating which prioritizes jumps is ice dance which it isn't. It does not PRIORITIZE DANCING ON ICE It's jumps with a touch of dance for entertainment. The jumps are everything in singles skating. Always has been everything in singles--especially for men which is why triple axel is required for them in the short and not women. If jumps don't matter a triple axel would be as worthless as a double axel in mens. If you guys want dance and performance to be everything without jumps go watch ICE DANCE.

      I feel like Ilia has significantly more potential than Trusov, as her programs always had relatively simplistic choreo and skating between jumps. In contrast, the composition of Ilia's current programs is a lot more complex than last season with difficult transitions into jumps and more intricate choreography throughout. Do you even know what the components are? If you did you'd know that PCS max out at 90 for men and will never reach the scores of Ilia's 108 in pure tech BV (and that's with no GOE). Shoma is at 87 max.
      His technique is the best in the mens field right now with less than 90 degrees of pre-rotation like Nathan, Liza, etc.
      Shoma should be getting -3 on all his quads amd triples based on terrible technique alone. Should never have been on any podium in his life by the technique standards of the top men who claimed the podium with superior jump technique (Nathan, Yuzu, Ilia, etc). By female jump standards he is just as bad as Kaori, Isabeau, and Loena. He is their equal and should switch to the current womens field to spice it up. They jump with just as terrible of a technique.
      The mens field is done with poor technique and evolving. Shoma's jumps will never evolve it will just regress like the women in the international field.

      @katsuuuuuu8254 I think it is fine to consider Ilia a "GOAT" for his jumping technique and accomplishments, because regardless of his current abilities he has made history in that regard and that is a fact. It's not like all of the skaters that were considered GOATs or history makers in this sport were perfect on every merit and had no flaws whatsoever. I don't think it's fair necessarily to compare him to skaters who have senior world records as most of the skaters who reached GOAT status did not achieve that in two senior seasons. But he does have an achievement for a ratified 4A and that is something that is admirable.
      It doesn't mean that the other skaters who have world records are less important as many of them were highly influential and successful. I think that people are too quick to compare Ilia to other skaters and that's what causing these arguments. Realistically his skills are completely different from these other "GOAT" skaters and that's completely fine. That's just the reality of sport. We can be realistic about his skating skills while also acknowledging his accomplishments in jumping.

  • @lgk512
    @lgk512 11 місяців тому +26

    Ilia offers much more than jumps. Why don’t people talk about how a lot of his jumps have steps into them or difficult entries with little set up time? Anyone with eyes can see he doesn’t just skate from one jump to the next. And why do so many people feel compelled to qualify liking his skating by saying things like, “he has to work on his skating skills but his jumps are exciting.” In comparison, you rarely hear fans repeatedly saying equivalent things about other skaters, like “his jumps are average but…” or “he needs to stop telegraphing his jumps but…” Figure skating is such a complex sport, you can pick apart anyone. I’d rather appreciate the different things each skater brings to the ice. I also think it hurts the sport to have fans acting like people who don’t have the same preferences as them “need to learn what figure skating is.” This mentality will indeed kill the sport and push new fans away.

    • @radarmua2316
      @radarmua2316 11 місяців тому +3

      On the contrary, I think the appreciation for the complexity of Figure Skating as a sport leads one to learning about the politics of skating federations. Sadly, we do not live in the ideal world where every skater can bring what they have to the ice and be scored fairly. We have seen, depending on coach, or national federation, scores are wildly manipulated. We've seen this destroy the hope in so many skaters after good performances at the kiss and cry. When the game is rigged in someone's favour it's not a fair game - and that's what's destroying the sport, not the fans who are aware of the oftentimes blatant discrimination.

      I don't know, I personally hear people give criticism about other skaters all the time - you may hear people often talk about Sakamoto's flutz or how she pre-rotates despite having big jumps and being fast, mention Levito and you'll hear somehow talk about how scary her jump technique is, Uno and his...interesting flip jumps, Cha's telegraphed 3As that sends everyone into a prayer circle before he jumps it, go to a post about any women's skater from Sambo 70 (Eteri Tutberidtze's team - Trusova, Kostornia, Valieva, Scherbochova, etc) and you will definitely see endless criticism about their jumps - I think even Paola has videos that talk about critiques of their jump technique.
      I think it all just depends on what groups of people you're talking to. Because all of these things I just mentioned have been brought up by people who were wholeheartedly fans of those skaters.
      I think the reason that people will often point out Malinin's skating skills is because he's being rewarded for a level of ability that is not quite there (although he's not the only to deal with this issue and won't be the last). He should not be within a few points of skaters like Uno when it comes to PCS yet he very consistently is. Obviously this isn't his fault and he shouldn't be blamed for it, but if his PCS scores say that he is near the level of these skaters when he very clearly isn't people are probably going to point it out. But like I said, he's not the only skater who is graded too high in PCS, so people shouldn't single him out in that regard.
      Overall I think people do focus on criticizing him too much but other skaters have faced similar treatment from fans as well. He is not the first and probably will not be the last.

I have seen the criticisms you mentioned and think it is ok to point things out, but some skaters are bashed more than others and it gets excessive. For example, I’m sure Uno and his team are well aware of the criticism of his flip, that Cha is working on his 3A entry, and that Adam is working on getting more flow on his landings. I don’t need to hear these things over and over and neither do the skaters or the judges. The 3 skaters I just mentioned are all fantastic and know where they can improve. Same with ilia. But with ilia, I hear more comments that are personal, general, and needlessly mean. People saying he looks like a giraffe (and much worse), that he has zero skating skills (exaggeration much?) or even that they hope he gets injured. That is bullying, not criticism. And so much of it is subjective. You could argue his tech score should be higher. I saw him in person and his jumps were breathtakingly beautiful, his spins were fast and centered, and he showed more flexibility than many of the skaters. Some fans also talk about the judging as if their opinion is fact and it is their job to correct the judges. Opinions on things like choreography and performance vary. GOE is also complicated and subject to some interpretation.
      How does the online negativity hurt the sport? I know teens who were excited about a skater after watching them, then went to social media, saw a bunch of negative comments, and questioned their initial perception. New fan lost. I also have a friend who pulled her young talented daughter out of skating. She had various reasons for doing this, but I remember her saying, what parent would want their child to be a skater after seeing the women’s event at the Olympics or seeing all the negative comments directed at young skaters on social media? I think that’s a good question.
      My long comment here isn’t going to change anything. But I do love the sport and hate to see it losing popularity. And I think all the hard-working skaters deserve an abundance of respect and support, along with a healthy dose of constructive criticism.

Previously, Yuzu, Yuma, and Nathan have all scored higher than Ilia's GPF free skate with relatively simpler, 4-quad layouts. If Yuma is able to add the quad loop back in and skate cleanly, I think his PCS scores will start to rise, and both he and Adam can be legitimately competitive with Ilia, even without fully matching his jumping ability.

    Ok after calling Malinin goat I guess Levito has the best Lutz ever. What happened to this once objective channel? 🤔

      Calm down and take a second to see that she clearly meant that Ilia was GOAT in jumping. She has literally stated that his skating skills weren’t the best. 😑

      No such thing as an objective thing in figure skating

      Kaori's lutz is just as bad and nasty as Isabeau's

    I DO NOT agree with your heading..Ilia GOAT.Sorry the 4A does not make him the GOAT. He simply does not have the full package like Yuzuru. He will never be the GOAT.never ever

    Ilia is the GOAT for jumps. Tiny Shoma's "artistry" isn't for everyone's tastes and his poor awful jump technique should have him near the very bottom. Should score 0's and -1's for those bad jump take offs. Rion is horrible and falls way too much. She usually has disaster skaters and is trying to cheat to the top with a poor 4T but any advantage of the 4T is worthless since she can't even land proper triples consistently.
