Oioiii squad! Really hope you enjoy this more personal behind the scenes episode! We had fun filming these bits and hope that it answers some of your questions 😃😃. Remember to smash ye olde like button if you had fun and hit subscribe, it’s totally free + really helps us out! Lots of love from J+A!
Nice to see behind the scenes guys! Our back yard looks remarkably similar 🤣 I don’t think there are any shortcuts to bottle cleaning, just soaking, scrubbing and grit. Hope to catch up with you soon
Hurray for Andy's awesome brother who obviously understands how important mudlarking is to his dear brother and niece! Give itttt! Thanks for a great video. Love you two.
Loved the video! White Vinegar in the final rinse makes bottles sparkle and if you have stubborn marks, white vinegar and water left in the bottle overnight works wonders. For little pots and things bicarb of soda on a cloth is great, but be careful if then using white vinegar as the reaction between bicarb and vinegar can also be used to demonstrate how volcanos work, which is fizzy fun but can get messy.
Hello Deborah ! I can remember those volcano experiments involving little plastic film cannisters and bicarbonate of soda. Quite a few people have mentioned using vinegar so we will have to give it a try next time. Lots of lovely bots to try it out on ready for next week, take care 😃
@@Mudpies White vinegar cleans just about anything, (and smells less like a chip shop than the malt version) can't wait to see what you found this time out!
Mudlarking is a dirty job but is so worth it! I so appreciate all your hard work and perseverance! The juicy finds are the great reward. Plus, father and daughter have the best time and making memories! ❤️
Awh thank you so much Sheila! Haha yes it is very dirty business but we love it 😝😝 always worth it for those juicy bottles. Take care, have a lovely week!
As a return customer to the mudpies Etsy shop,I can tell you,the items they have are remarkable! You can hold an old bottle in your hand, and some of them are so heavy that you know they must be really thick glass, but when you hold a cut down bottle, you actually get to see how thick the glass is! It’s almost wastefully thick,ha! It’s like looking at the rings of a tree. It’s a window into the past. And,don’t get me started on the stoneware😅
Awh Charles that’s so kind of you to comment this, thank you so much! Always so lovely to hear nice comments about the store. Haha yessss the juicy stoneware!! 😆 You take care and have a lovely week! X
OII OIIIIIII! 🙌 Yay! 😃🙌 ❤️We finally get to see the Mudpies "in the wild". This time, we got to go on the entire journey with you, muddy gunk 🐾 and all! 🥰
Yes that’s an awesome idea! We have used bird seed which is a little more gentle too, but rice should be a good option 😃 can’t wait to show you next weeks finds!
And don't forget Mama Mudpie! Maybe some day we can get a peek at this lovely supportive person! Just realized this is a wonderful family! How priceless! Hugs! Stevie, QUEEN Creek, Arizona
Thank you for putting this video together and showing us a bit more of what happens in the background, a lot of work and effort goes into you putting a video together and please know that we really appreciate it. Look forward to seeing the mudventure next week
This is EXACTLY what I wanted to watch ( and learn) , I love that "stone washed" bottle 😆 Thank you very much for shearing these secrets tips of yours...love you guys! Greetings from Argentina
Household soda might be cheaper than the pink stuff! I guess antique class isn't dishwasher safe 🤣. Me thinking allowed PPE includes a mobile and Hi Viz and or flair 👍🏼😎🌸Great stuff.
the cats want me to tell you that the toughest rubber boots are firefighter boots, especially if you are mudlarking in a volcano, or cleaning out the litter box
Well that certainly made me appreciate your videos all the more. I had no idea you had to get up so early. If I had to get up that early, especially on a cold day, I certainly wouldn't be the beautiful example of cheeriness that the two of you are. You definitely go through a lot to bring us these wonderful videos. Thank you so much for all you do. ;-D
I haven't been bottle digging since the 70's but to clean the insides of bottles you put in the grit wrap a few bottles in towels and then in a bath sheet and put them in a tumble dryer (making sure the heats off and there's no room to let them move freely) ,half an hour later most will be sparkling !
Hello 👋 from New York USA Thank you both for sharing You're behind the scenes and you're routine for what you guys do to make Awesome video's for us Thank You again for that and I absolutely enjoy watching you guy's your video's are calming and entertaining 😊 😀
I so enjoyed watching what goes on behind the scenes, getting to see what gear you use and how you clean the bottles. Can't wait to see the episode next week!
Lucky Trowel might appreciate tarting up with some bright orange or chartreuse florescent paint so it will be a little more difficult misplace. Carry on!
I loved the behind the scenes! As a cat person I always look forward to seeing your family Kit Cats at the end or on the bagging area.😸 I would love to "meet" them and learn their names...maybe age and short story (adopted from a Mud puddle? Showed up in the garden? Neighbors cat had Kittens?). Thank you so much for doing your videos. Keep up the great work! 👍
Here in the sub zero temperatures of snowy New Hampshire , we wear the Polar Muck Boots. Actually husband wears them to work in constantly. Whole lot of good clean fun in Mudlark Land, it does look like a lot of work!
Being from the US it is so odd for me to watch you driving on the "wrong" side of the road and your Dad being on the wrong side of the car driving. Love watching your videos and the excitement you show when you find items.
I just found you today from DSOS channel and I've been binging your videos. It both moves me and saddens me at the same time. I would have given ANYTHING to have had a relationship with my dad like you have, or even for my daughters to have had a relationship with their father like this. You're both very blessed, and I'm sure you know that, it's super sweet to watch.
Very much enjoyed your behind the scenes vlog. Very interesting to see how you prepare and how manage to get all that mud off yourselves so you can go home without leaving a muddy trail. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
This is the video I've been waiting for. Very interesting. I was amazed that you are that far away from your mudlark sites. I assumed you were very near the Medway. You really are dedicated to your craft. Thank you
Heya Peter! Awh that’s great to hear you enjoyed it, yes the Medway is our favourite place to lark but it is a little journey’s away! Always worth it for the juicy finds 🥰 take care and thanks for watching!
I use copper wire cut into small pieces to clean inside of bottles, Use it in same way you do with the grit stones but as they are smaller they get into all the small areas and copper is soft enough to not scratch the glass 👍🏻
Nice one guys!. A couple of things that I have found helpful when bottle cleaning is that when trying to shift an emulsion type deposit in a bottle a squirt of Mr Muscle oven cleaner works wonders. For a final sparkling finish baby oil works well and lasts a fair while. Sadly nothing combats age glass sickness.
Really interesting to see all the necessary gear to keep you safe, warm, and dry (ish) nice selection of cleaning gear, the fine gravel is great, got an endless supply here in Eastbourne. That was a tantalising glimpse of a Codd !! Happy hunting Oioi!! Can't wait for the next one!!
Oioi Eastbourne so you’re not too far from us then! (Brighton). glad you enjoyed the cleaning! Ahh yes the Coddzilla! Can’t wait to show you it + the other belters next week x
Great video, we used to use salt and vinegar to clean the inside of really tough bottles. teaspoon of salt and half cup of vinegar give em a good shake works wonderful.add baking soda for really tough ones.its reusable for the day. I'm already getting excited for the next video. Thanks for brightening up my day.oh yea, enjoy that music at 5 in the morning Andy turn it up!!!🤣and have another cup of coffee.
I lived in my Muck boots until I had a bad ankle injury and can't really wear them anymore. It made me so sad because they are absolutely the best ever. As someone who works outside all the time, I can affirm that gloves are the hardest thing to find. The best of gloves seem to be fragile and not last long, and none of them have the kind of arm coverage I'd like. I use a citric acid soak, neutralized with baking soda, to clean rocks, it might work well on bottles.
Thankyou for taking us into your innersanctum behind the scenes! I was hoping to see the behind the camera art work efforts of Momma Mudlark. Perhaps some time in the future... I use Ice and salt to clean my coffee pot and to remove that awful white mineral deposit that sometime occurs on my flower vases. The Salt and ice is a gentler way to clean more delicate glass. I can't wait for tomorrow's and future finds finds!
Andy, I must say I was absolutely humbled by the lengths you go to (or went to) to clean your bottles! To get them to the reveal part in your films, takes an inordinate amount of work and is really quite impressive! Cheers to you and Josie! 😀
Really enjoyed this behind the scenes look, lots of thought went into all that equipment! What about using a sonic bath cleaner for the smaller bots? Might save some scrubbing with the right cleaning mixture. Jaffa sure is enjoying that toy!
I've used rough sea salt and rubbing alcohol to get rid of grime and staining on the inside of bottles. Put some of each in (no real measurement) and then shake it up like a James Bond martini and you're good to go....
Oiiii oiiii really enjoyed this episode guys and very interesting seeing your technique for cleaning the BOTS etc 😀 and liking the gravel in the bot worked well 👍, also seeing your gear and how you clean down after the mud squelch, love Watching you both you both have so much fun in whatever you are doing. Already looking forward to next week's vid and the cod well done 👏 what a absolute beltstein,a week till the next episode have a good week take care 🙂 X
Oioiiii Paul! Glad you like the bot cleaning 😆 the gravel technique really does work wonders! Mmm yes quite a few beltsteins revealed next week, gonna be a good’n!! 🤩 have an awesome week, take care Paul x
I really enjoyed the video! That sprayer is fantastic! I've noticed how your clothes have evolved over time. Maybe you'll find some gloves that are longer.Thank you for all the great information on cleaning. Looking forward to the collecting video now that we're dressed and ready! Michigan fan ⛄❄☕🇺🇸 ps, Thank you for your affordable Etsy prices. Not everyone can pay top dollar for your beautiful treasures especially when overseas shipping is necessary. I truly appreciate everything about you. 💙💚💙
You both must be impervious to the cold I can't imagine larking in mud and rain only to get back to the car and spray off again lol. Thanks for the work you do!
Great gear...you both are respected gear specialists...and what really amazed me was the reasonable prices...so much fun to know about...great...thank you...go team.
Cheers Juanita, hopefully we didn't disappear too much in to gear nerd land ! The mukboots are pricey but well worth it if you are doing the miles. Take care 😃👍
Thanks for the 'behind scenes'! Everyone who ROCKS eventually does one! Something I've wondered about though is the use of a staff. #1 Balance #2 Testing depth #3 To reach out to aid a member of the crew #4 Testing something suspicious #5 To save your back when bending over, or heavily loaded #6 As a weapon to ward off the 'WORM'! Safe journeys for the Mudpies and all the best from Montana, USA🌲
I love my Dunlop Wellies, but the muck boots are on my list. Great tips for cleaning. Bicarbonate of soda mix with lemon juice, put rice inside to help dislodge some of the corner bits. All natural and it foams up!,
A small first aid kit (think dive box for waterproof-ness) to put in the emergency bag might be a good idea. Never know when you might need an aspirin or a bandaid!
Two of the absolute best things to put in a kit is a garbage bag and a gallon-sized ziplock. For you guys, maybe even a flare to signal with in case you get stuck in the muck. ;)
Hello there, yes we have thought of this and certainly it would work for the creeks but on some larks we have clocked up 8 miles through the mud and i think this could be too much in waders. Certainly going to try and get some for summer creek larks though 😃👍
Josie, save some of your coffee grounds and try them as a mild abrasive in the bottles. Also thinking you should pack a length of PVC pipe with the end caps to carry those precious long items ( pipes) and keep them intact! Good luck!
Loved this video. It’s interesting to see how other people do things, I use uncooked rice to clean fragile bottles. I also have wetsuit gloves. They have a tape ( some types) around wrist which help keep them on, sadly not waterproof, but definitely help me. I love all your cut down bottles! I’ve given 2 as gifts and have one for myself. You are both an absolute inspiration
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! Now I can sleep at night! Trying to figure out how you get home and keep your car clean. I felt so sorry for mama mudpie...sigh.... you two LOL! The dumb things some of us in mudpieland worry about 🙃
Thanks for the insight to the grinding work behind the scenes. That portable jet spray machine Is excellent, might also be useful for cleaning the bottles! Sue and Ian, Australia
Another option to the grit use household wiring (14 guage) strip it of the plastic..then cut the copper into 1/8 inch pieces. hand full of piece lasts long time and can be used over and over...the copper pieces will not scratch the glass as easily as grit....
Excellent video! Thank you so much for this one that I, for one, asked to see. Now I can clean the bottle my son found me. The bottle has "shoulders" and I had no idea how to reach that part. Looking forward to next week already to see what you found.
This was terrific. I did wonder if you wore regular wellies. :) Muck boots are so much sturdier, and you two certainly put them through their paces. LOL Beach sand would work really well in some of your more delicate bottles, and it's pretty much available free everywhere. ;) Or if you know anyone with an aquarium, they might be persuaded to give you some tank gravel. Other than that, I'd say you've got it all covered. But then, you're Legends, right? :D See you next week. Take care & stay safe.
Hello Noralee, good point about the beach sand we will try this for some of our thin chemist bottles. I'm thinking we should make a list of all the cleaning tips different people share. Take care and see you next week 😃 xxx
Hello from Knoxville Tennessee USA. Thank you I really enjoyed the video. I’ve been wondering what kind of goodies you used. I usually try to get home before my wife and wash my clothes in the machine. If she finds any mud I blame it on my son or granddaughter. We’ll keep all this information to ourselves. Stay safe and I’ll keep watching your videos .
Heya Steve! Hahaha I love that you blame the mud on your son/granddaughter lol. So glad you enjoyed the video + gear talk! Take care, have a lovely week can’t wait to show you our next adventure! 😃
Hello friends, So nice of you to share your clean-up routine with us. I have often wondered how you do manage to get all the gunk out of those beautiful bottles. Do you clean the clay pipes (and stems along with those jam jars) in a similar fashion? Again Thank you both and please give my well wishes to you all. Wasn't Craig hilarious with the recitation to the mouse? Greetings from North Carolina U.S.A.
The addition of the portable pressure washer is such a great idea, otherwise you might have to cover your car seats with a tarp to get home! I have a cut down bottle from you (the megalodon) and the edge is so nice and smooth, I appreciate the time it takes to sand it down by hand...
Oioiii squad!

Ohhhh that’s a good idea David! I’d be so worried about them smashing but I suppose you’ve just got to load it correctly??
Now I HAVE to get one of those pressure washers!
It’s the best device ever!

Great idea Bill, I've tried rubbing alcohol before with some success not with salt though. Thank you 😃

Two of the absolute best things to put in a kit is a garbage bag and a gallon-sized ziplock. For you guys, maybe even a flare to signal with in case you get stuck in the muck. ;)
Excelente video, Excelente aventura,Hi from Barcelona España 🇪🇸 Andrés Iturria 🇪🇸😎👍Say Hi to mi,in you Next video....
Gracias Andres !😃x
Paint the Lucky trowel a florescent color! Easy to locate
Good stuff, thanks for showing us 😊
Have you ever thought about neoprene fishing waders for your mudlarks?
All in one boots and trousers 👍
Yes, I was about to suggest that as an option. It would certainly stop them from losing a boot in the deeper mud flats....
Hello there, yes we have thought of this and certainly it would work for the creeks but on some larks we have clocked up 8 miles through the mud and i think this could be too much in waders. Certainly going to try and get some for summer creek larks though 😃👍
@@Mudpies As a fisherman, I can say that long walks in them are only good if you are taking your time and not rushing to beat the tide 😊
Josie, save some of your coffee grounds and try them as a mild abrasive in the bottles. Also thinking you should pack a length of PVC pipe with the end caps to carry those precious long items ( pipes) and keep them intact! Good luck!
Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it. So great to see the process. See you next week.
Really Nice to see how you do everything
Yayy, Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done well done you two!👍😉 Thank you for sharing🥇🏆📽
😃 Thank you for watching penny!
So you can use rice as your abrasive. Pour in dry, uncooked rice, some sap and then shake it. It's abrasive but absolutely won't scratch the bottles.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! Now I can sleep at night! Trying to figure out how you get home and keep your car clean. I felt so sorry for mama mudpie...sigh.... you two LOL! The dumb things some of us in mudpieland worry about 🙃
Been waiting all day for a new video lol!
Oioiii! Hope you enjoy!
I saw Tea on your equipment table but it wasn't covered in the explanation. Is it like coffee for Josie? A prep before Mudding?☕🍵❤
Haha yes forgot to include that - tea is Dad’s favourite 😂🤩☕️
Thanks for the insight to the grinding work behind the scenes. That portable jet spray machine Is excellent, might also be useful for cleaning the bottles! Sue and Ian, Australia
Nice to see how you do things. It was very interesting. Please stay safe and be careful ❤
Thank you for watching Mary! So glad you enjoyed it 😀 you take care too and have a lovely week x
@@Mudpies I can’t wait to see your next video. One more thing remember to clean up before you sit on the couch.
@@stevespears3341 😆😆
Great information 👍 never hurts to learn. Also appreciate the teasers for next week's video 😉 well played... lol
Hello friends,
So nice of you to share your clean-up routine with us.
Really enjoyed the behind the scenes sharing! Thanks! Missed Mrs. Mudlark though!
So stoked you enjoyed it! Hopefully we can convince mama Mudpie to get in front of the camera sooooon 😃
Oh thank you!! I have not 3 minute watching and I enjoy very much! 😁😁😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@Mudpies me always !!!! I just start the new video ! 😁
hey thanks for the look behind the scene :) loved the whole show - hi happy kitty at the end how pretty!
So glad you enjoyed it! Haha Jaffa loves her catnip toy so much 😝
The addition of the portable pressure washer is such a great idea, otherwise you might have to cover your car seats with a tarp to get home! I have a cut down bottle from you (the megalodon) and the edge is so nice and smooth, I appreciate the time it takes to sand it down by hand...
Thank you Nicole 👍😃
Liking this before I watch it because I KNOW its going to be awesome!
