Oh my god I remember Phil Plantier! Congrats on the Jim Beckett autograph! That is stellar and I've always wanted to meet him, so you're lucky. I have a reprint of the first Beckett, but didnt you know that Dr. Beckett started the Magazine during the 1984 National at the Aspen Hotel in Parsippany, New Jersey? Prior to that he and Denny Eckes founded the Sport Americana in 1978 and the rest is Hobby history! Way to go on these, really cool!
Hey Mike, I love that you got those Beckett magazines graded by Beckett. I was also a Beckett magazine collector and probably have over 40 or 50 of them and haven’t sent them out to have them graded but was thinking about sending them to CGC to have them graded, this way I can get the grade number but not sure if Beckett does the grade number but love the way they look and hopefully one day I’ll get some of those sent off to have graded and send you pictures of how they come back. Awesome video and brings back. A lot of memories from over 30 years ago.
While I don’t remember the day it came in mail, I too used to put everything until I read thru it then pulling out the cards I had that went up. Good times! Just before Covid I completed all 1st edition becketts with finding a nice copy of the baseball too. I also have basketball, football, hockey and golf.. (Yeap they made a golf magazine with Tiger on cover) along with 15-20 others with stars on the cover that I liked. Every now n then I’ll flip through to see prices from back then and wonder “what if”.. that’s pretty cool mike got him to sign it. I might someday get them slabbed up just to protect and display.
Those mags are awesome. I was a Wednesday. I loved the Super Collector spotlight. And checking my cards and getting one of those up arrows & getting excited when a card hit $1.00, lol.
That was nice if Dan to help you complete your set. Love the issue #1 from your Beckett submission. I too always looked up the 52 Mantle value when I was younger. I don't know if you noticed but one of your Slabs on the top shelf is backwards lol. Great video Mike!
Cool auto on the 1st issue! I remember when you showed that before you sent it in. Couple months ago?? I have the 1st Jordan and 1st Griffey also. I have a buch of magazines that I'd to get graded someday.
Beckett on a Beckett in a Beckett. The Trifecta. It was cool to me Dr. Beckett at the National. I was like you when it came to reading the Beckett Magazine and getting it in the mail.
My sophomore season, I modeled my swing after Plantier, and proceeded to bat about a buck eighty. P.S. Plantier did have one 30 hr/100rbi season with SD.
What a blast from the past. Phil Plantier is a name I hadn't thought about in 30 years! I certainly remember his cards being a big deal when I was a kid. Is he a HOFer yet? 😅😅😅
Mike they look awesome in the becket cases especially the Michael Jordan's. Makes me want to pull mine out and get them graded but mine are not signed. Thats awesome you got them signed be Mr Becket himself nice treasures. I'll trade you.
Knew that coward would take that way out. Know all he has to do for the remainder for time is choose which pineapple the devil gets to shove. Those need to go on a shelve below the cards. That 1st Beckett Baseball is one I would love to pickup.
This was quite a change of tone from sentence to sentence 😂 I love it. I’m considering moving my desk and shelves this winter because of a new heating system so I’ll wait until I decide before I put them up. Thanks Doug!
Lol, I was skating and shooting at the net almost daily a few years ago. I could skate for 45-60 minutes. Took some time off, that number jumped sown to 15 minutes real fast. 40 catches up pretty fast.
@@JunkWaxHero I hear it Clarence. I bought my first PSA 10 card yesterday. I was pretty pumped about it. It's a 2013 Pink Floyd Garbage pail kid. The kid on it is just another brick in a wall. I had to have it. It was a bonus set, the Gene Simmons card from it seemed to hit and I think that's why they did the battle of the bands set in 2017. Anyhow there are like 70 Gene Simmons graded and 3 Pink Floyd. The bricked Nick had a pop 1 and the Pink Floyd and a pop 2, one 9 and one 10. They may not of got too many out due to using the actually name on the card, don't know, but I love it.
Cool Becketts on Becketts! I didn’t think it was appropriate to ask yesterday - but I’ll ask now: I believe you moved the Larry Bird card into Frank Thomas’ position, but why is Larry Bird backwards??
First of all, amazing that you knew Thomas was there before. Secondly, my wife plays a prank on me by moving my slabs so they’re backwards or upside down. She got me again! 😂
@@JunkWaxHerofull disclosure. I only knew because I saw a backwards card. Went back to your last video, was backwards. Went to the video before that, was Bird. Went to the video before that, and was Thomas. I need to find something else to do on Saturday evenings! 😂
I'll tell you what happened to Plantier..he didn't hit 1000 HRs. His card was hot though in 1991, I think the curve ball did him in that and sliders away.
Just before watching your video, Mike, I needed to eat Reese's with chocolate lava. Didn't do it. I also need a Pedroia auto. Don't have one. Weighing BVG submissions or just PSA on some Transograms. Nobody here cares about my stinky Mantle & etc. Do you? Jesus Christ those are the biggest Becketts I've ever seen!!
Which one is your favorite?

Thanks! I’d do CGC for magazine grades.
CGC considers autographs as a flaw, and they don’t authenticate. So I went with Beckett.
Supercool Mike!! Beckett stories are very cool! ‘Beckett Day😁!! That is a holiday worth celebrating!!! Bolt and McLaughlin are very cool too!

Some nice additions to your collection, Mike!
Top stuff! 👍
Thanks John!
The 1st Beckett magazine is pretty sweet. Glad that you can go out again.
Great video and I still have all my Beckett Magazines, also remember waiting for the mail every month.
Such a great Dr. Beckett story!

Haha yes!
Mike those Becketts look real nice in the holders! My red sharpie was a nice color match for the Jordan 😀
I think so too!

Pretty sure it was around a year ago!
I’m so jealous of that autographed Beckett magazine. Somehow I missed Dr Beckett at the National. Congratulations on your graded magazines/ covers.
Maybe next year, Orlando!
@@JunkWaxHerodoes Dr Beckett appear at National? I’ll be in Cleveland next year.

He’s a hofer in his moms eyes. 😂
Love the signed debut issue
Thanks Mark. Not easy to find in decent condition! And that’s about the condition mine is in. Glad to get it slabbed up to protect it.

Be careful Doug. There are reprints out there that say “reprint 2001” in upper right corner.
Yeah I’ve come across some that weren’t advertised as reprints but clearly are. Thanks

Nice, thanks!

Good one!
Being from Boston i was a big Plantier fan then he was gone suddenly
He did have one decent season in SD I think.
Good stuff-not sure about the shooter to PO Box segue, but like the content
You’d probably need to watch the video from the day before
