Battlefield 2042, and portal, should stand as a shining example of what happens when you release a game WAAAY to early. It had potential to become the best, but alas, it has failed.

It’s really on more the fact that Ripple effect(portal dev) just reused the 2042 base weapon reload animations than making new animations for 1942 weapons(excluding kar98 and Lee enfield), that’s why the reload is more modern looking
On the STG the animators were so lazy they didn’t even animate the spring moving. It just phases through the charging handle and stays completely still.
1:40 The dudes hands are so shaky during that MP40 reload it looks like he drank way too much caffeine (or ate too much Panzerschokolade) before battle
What I really don't like about the portal (and why I think some people may also not like it) is that it shies away a lot from the original game. For example, the reload animations are very unfaithful to the original and are mostly just trying to hop on the "tactical reload" trend that is inundating games in this modern age. Also (and this also ties into the unfaithful reloads), the game ignores many of the quirks that made Battlefield 1942 fun (e.g. the slides on the pistols releasing themselves prematurely). Another reason the portal isn't great is that the animations were clearly not put under review, since many of them are just either reused from the base game or incredibly janky. Most weapons just reuse sounds from earlier titles, which also speaks volumes about the lack of effort put into the portals. In short, the portal is far more than EA DICE bargained for and was definitely just added as an afterthought. They didn't bother to make anything original and instead just reskinned the base game and called it a day. Besides, why should they try to fix something that isn't broken? Players could just go back to the original 1942 game or, if they really want an improvement, Battlefield V.

The Portal Thompson tac reload is painful to watch (having tried dual mag swaps on old smgs and bruised / cut my hands several times) - also what's with the WW1 / 2 / Nam characters holding handguns w both hands and not in classic target shooting single handed manner?

Great game for it’s time yes, and is still fun to this day given how surprisingly active multiplayer is, but the moment you go back to the game you’ll start to remember why it wasn’t the best Also the sounds are worse than I remember lol, especially with the Tommy and the MP40 Pistol sounds are just meh, maybe the same level of derpy as the original Doom

Yeah kinda sucks. Imo the worst reload out of all portal is the aks74u one, literally looks like a doom reload. So very poor effort was put into animations, most of them beein reused in some weapons like the portal bad company 2 snipers
1942: Outdated, crunchy as hell, but has nice, deliberate slow movements that are aesthetically pleasing. BF Portal: Wants to be Vanguard but isn't ready to commit, has weird movement patterns and period-incorrect tacticool reloads. Also some lack of attention to detail that's confusing in light of their previous games.
To be fair, it's even worse in 1942. Also, you can get a situation where you have to hit the charging handle forward, but that's if your M1 Garand is dirty enough.

The animator behind the reloads probably had a fair idea of how the M1 Garand worked, but didn't know this one small detail. Yes it is quite annoying if you pay attention to the reloads, but it is a pretty small detail. Something I noticed as well was that the 2042 guns feel like they have some weight compared to 1942, albeit not a lot. 1942's animations look like the guns weigh basically nothing, especially in the case of the M1918 BAR.
OK, again, I don’t hate nor dislike any of 2042’s gun sounds, just saying from my point of view that some weapons sound was particularly good in my childhood memory, if anyone wants to disprove my opinion or state any more facts, please continue.

If only they reused BFV and BF1 animations for 1942, and BF3/4 animations for 3 and BC2, it would be great. 2042 animations are so downgraded compared to V and earlier, and they need to be urgently reanimated. I gotta give them props for making the iron sights more realistic than before though.
Viewmodel animations aren't typically done with mocap, and that's the case with Battlefield 2042. It's easier, more practical and probably more cost-effective to just hire animators that are good at viewmodel animations than to get an entire team dedicated to mocap together.
I'm pretty sure mo-capping would have given them a better baseline than what they have. Given that they're trying to Modern Warfare '19 tacticool everything, I have no doubts that they'd still fuck that baseline up, though.
One thing I notice is that the MP40's fire sound is faster then the actual fire rate. The casings ejecting from the smg are faster then the bullets themselves. Either they should slow the speed for the sound of the gun shot and the animation for the shells

Portal ; Too modern reloads that feel like they have no weight and some clipping here and there. Good models though, gotta leave them that. It's a correction. In the original, the MP40 reload is incorrect. Portal understood that MP40 is an open bolt smg and the original didn't.

Wrong loading animation. British soldiers were instructed to fire using middle finger and toggle the bolt using thumb and palm (BFV got that right).

Idk why people really hate bf 2042, but I never played it and i don't really care about gun sounds or any small details, it doesn't ruin the fun for me, as long as it stays as an epic chaos battle ground

The animations in portal looks so rushed and $h1t ! Like it's so buggy, especially the stg44, kar98, bar and the bazooka. I wasn't expecting this game to come out this early

It’s kinda surprising that the ww2 animations looks rushed and buggy. They literally just had a whole ww2 game. Reusing assets like weapon and reload animations would have been just fine.
