Where would you put a smart blind in your house?
Everywhere! If they came in more colors.. My house is lots of plants with lots of natural wood. Silver and grey is...not that! Maybe I'll be able to cover the base of the units with thin wood. That just leaves the grey fabric to be tackled.

I'm loving the IKEA FYRTUR. There's actually a way to reduce the size to fit any window. It requires a handsaw but I used a table saw instead to be quick and accurate!
Here's how to use an Alexa "Echo" device to avoid having to buy/use the very problematic Tradfri Ikea gateway hub to control the Ikea Fyrtur smart blinds. At this writing only the Echo Show 10, Echo Studio, Echo Gen 4 (not Dot) and the discontinued Echo Pro contain the required Zigbee-capable hub.
1) After mounting your new Fyrtur blind unit... Pop it off the wall and bring the "2-button end" of your blind down to within 5 cm of your hub-containing Alexa Echo device.
2) Say "Alexa discover devices".
3) While the Alexa voice is giving device discovery instructions, press and hold both the up and down buttons at the same time (on the blinds unit, not the remote) for about 10 seconds. The light should pulse or blink or ??. Sorry, I can't recall exactly what it does to show that it's in pairing mode.
4) This will erase any previous pairings and, after Alexa announces that she has found something like "Device One", your blinds will now be linked to your Alexa system via the Zigbee hub.
5) You may now rename your blinds to something more useful... like "Blinds"? It should also now show up under "All Devices" in your phone "Alexa" app.
6) You should now remount your blinds up on the wall and use the up/down buttons on the blinds unit to set the "maximum level of extension" (see instruction sheet).
7) You may now use regular "Alexa" commands like...
"Alexa, open blinds"
"Alexa, close blinds"
"Alexa, open Blinds to 50%"
The beauty of using the Alexa hub device instead of the Tradfri hub device is that you now can control your Fyrtur blinds from anywhere, even away from home, via your Alexa app on your phone. Using the Tradfri hub you would have been limited to your local home WiFi system.
Sadly the remote control unit will no longer be useable. Put it somewhere safe in case the tech changes or you sell your blinds.

Pretty nice summary. I got mine from Dako, they are also cheap, they have some weird app but other than that they are good.
Interesting Steph. You are a handy person. I bought 8 of the smart blinds for my rooms. Initially i had trouble pairing the remote. It was a hassle for me as I'm not a handy person. Now I bought the gateway to link and use voice control. But first its a nightmare if I'm going to to have to reset and take out the battery and then connect. What would be your advise on the steps I should take if I want to connect them to the Tradfri gateway. Appreciate your help. Thank You.
Hi George, I have not connected mine to the gateway so I'm not sure what the problem might be. Did you try contacting IKEA?
Hey, quick question. You said you can set a stop limit, does that mean next time you press down the blinds stop there every single time, or did you mean stop limit as in you can tell it where to stop but you need to do that every time?

Yes, the battery in the blind is rechargeable.
Hi, can the distance from the wall be adjusted to clear e.g. a handle?
I don't think so. But the blind can be hung from the ceiling or the wall.
Depens where you mount the brackets, wall or ceiling. So yes.
What size i should pick for a window 35X72 ? 34 or 36 ?
I would do 36" and mount it on the outside like I did in this video.
What colors does the shade come in?
This is the only color. It's a blackout shade as well, I forgot to mention that!
Can you program them to raise and lower on a timer?
I think you can with the app. You need the hub for the app, but I don't have that.

Such a bummer they are only 48 inches. All my windows are either larger or smaller.
They do have a few smaller versions, so those are worth checking out!
