- Malcolm Douglas follows this elusive river through the unique wetlands of the Macquarie Marshes in western New South Wales. In two Canadian canoes, he and his mates push through the lush swamps and film the abundant wildlife.
I love these old school Australian films. As a 21 year old growing up in Missouri, USA, these videos give me a chance to look back into some serious adventure! Paddling our waters is night and day compared to what these folks have experienced.
I recommend having a look at the Bush Tucker man Les Hiddins and his adventures, he's another Aussie legend.
@@Sion_Revan good recommendation
One of the better episodes IMO. ✅
I don’t think Mal would be in any hurry to go back to the Macquarie Marshes.
Got to do that trip after a big rain
Got to be a ton of ticks and leaches in there too. Hot Hard Yakka. Not my idea of a fun trip.
Foreigners wonder why we shoot kangaroos, they have no concept of the shear numbers.
As for the pigs the place is infested with them today so the numbers never did diminish instead only flourished like the cats.
Interesting to watch these videos now as a middle aged man from when i first watched them as a boy.
RIP Mal.
those round pipes on the Bulgeregah are gone now, I replaced them with big box culverts , easier on the fish, courtesy of state water
Just great...
With all that rain we had in 2022 you’d have no problems going through there
my home town
Malcolm should have used his drone🤣🤣🤣
They didn't exist back then
The great times, love lobbies, best bait steak cut into small pieces with a little string 🦞🦞🦞🎣
Looks like kittens worked pretty good
I always thought follow a river to a ocean , I'm wrong
Why didn't they just put a drone up so they could see wear to go?
. No drones back then mate
@@shanevonharten3100 I know that, I was just being a smart ass
All before GPS & small cameras

This is a bit like. Bogart. N. Hepburn in African. Queen. Complete with leeches. !!!
thank the universe that nature made those giant bats non predatory frugivores.
Bet there’s not a drop left now in that river
There's plenty of water in the Barwon and Macquarie, why did you think there wouldn't be?
Definately water still in that river.
Adl Xr8 bet you have no idea
@@stewie5101 what about the wildlife
. smart ass
@@ripme6616 i live and work in Warren. There’s plenty of water in the river. See the fish in my display pic? That was caught in the Macquarie (catch and release). There are plenty of birds of all different species still around. Come for a holiday out here while covid is still a thing and see it through your own eyes. Just make sure your car is insured because you will probably hit a kangaroo while you’re out here. All the animals that you saw in this documentary are still here in abundance. Smart ass

He wished he had google maps or a drone.
These films just reminds us of how a culture and a people get wiped out by government -funded supposedly to be informative but really to groom the Aborigines to accept free food and alcohol-instead of just killing them when Australia was first colonized by the British
So it Shows Them Releasing The Piglets but Not The Kittens,Typical Self Appointed Expert.

Feral cats are the worse animals in Australia..
Please no
Malcolm Douglas still teaching me a thing or 2 beyond the grave. I never knew about the Macquarie marshes or those larger sized turtles 🐢 😲
I've worked up there & never seen so many snakes , after a bit of a flood one time I saw half a dozen different species in an afternoon maybe 20 all up
How long ago was that mate
@@ripme6616 I'm guessing 6 or 7 years ago
Hadn't Heard Of The Macquarie Marshes Before Although I Knew Of The Macquarie River Along With The Murrumbidgee Darling And Lachlan Rivers! He Certainly Got Around Australia Malcolm Douglas 1941-2010 And Showed Us Some Great Places In This Marvellous Country Of Ours!🤠🧔🚘🛶🚤🏞🌅🦞🦘🐨🐍🇦🇺

Keen as curried carp.
love these old films

Dear Malcom - i know, that you are gone to another adventure somewhere on another dimension or whatnot. But, if ever you'd read this: I watched this as a boy, in fact, watched a lot of your footage, reportages, focuspoints etc. since then and hey, you have done more to my "going outdoors and exploring ones whereabouts" than my parents. Thanks for that from some far faraway land, time and dude.
I got a friend if he was on that kayak and that frog fell in there 🤣 trust me u would not worry about not having enough water or a path , cuz when he took off u would have a 60ft deep 80ft wide clearing
i think manny from jaskass must be related to this guy
Those European Carp Fishes Are An Absolute Pest In The Australian Waterways As They Prey On And Displace The Native Australian Fishes So Malcolm's Doing A Real Service By Catching And Eating As Many Carp As Possible!🤠🐟🎣🚤🏞🇦🇺
Carp are herbivores
@@JC-mn2ll yeah they are... but they destroy all the water flora, make the water muddy and unliveable for native species....also the big asian carps also eat small fish and animals, i caught a good bunch with small fish or fish pieces....
very wild amazing
You'd swear Malcom was blessed by an Aboriginal Shaman or something with the way he so easily interacts with the animals he comes across.
Anyone know the name of the bird @5:34
do u have german original?
did he kill the cats?
Why am i craving a dunkaroo

Plenty water pre cotton,60's and 70's ,Malcolm too late in the 80's,should have been protected but greed prevails
No wonder nobody goes there. I wonder wen he comes back again. Mabye not in the middle of a drought
Imagine the effort required by their poor camera man. Guy is the true survivor
They're Definitely Noisy Buggers Those Flying Foxes (Bats) That's For Certain!😃🦇🦇🌳
This looks like it was miserable
Red belly came out of a swamp and had a go at me once, batted it away with my fishing rod.
Never been attacked by red belly.
Try smearing yourself in fresh kangaroo shit then they will leave you alone
After watching Malcolms videos about Australia for the past week i am glad my parents went to Canada instead of Australia in the 1950 !!
oh man that would've been the best time to grow up here. its rough but its a different rare world
Soy sauce is supposed to be refrigerated
It has too much salt in it to go off so it doesn't need to be
Only need to freezer up salt you twats
Don’t. Ask me for a refund when ur souse goes bad
Always Plenty Of Mosquitoes In These Places Especially During The Warmer Months And They Attack In Their Thousands!🦟🦟🥺😱🏞
i found up north they bit you for a week or two then something happened in your blood and theyd leave you alone after that. n if you let them from the start it happened sooner. dont itch the bites learn to live with them a lot of it is psychological.
Has anyone ever really been back in the marshes since Malcolm ??
Heaps of people - we go out there hunting fairly often
@@alexsimpson4346 I meant like kayaking back in the marsh
