I have been living in El Gouna for a few years and have had a different experience. While I understand that it can be more expensive compared to some other places in Egypt, I am not wealthy myself and have managed to live there without earning a lot of money.
I have been traveling for the last 6 years so I am always on the move but I stay here a few months a year because it is cheap, really good kitesurfing and a nice place to be. Plus it is sunny 363 days per year ☀️😂
There are some very nice restaurants in el gouna if you watch my video about the expensive vs cheap pizza for the expensive pizza we go to a nice restaurant and around there is some VERY nice food
