The vast majority of Standard is played on Arena now. Is it possible that your budget decks could account for this, and take into consideration rares and mythic rares instead of price in dollars?
I'm trying to add in more episodes that take the arena budget into account more. The challenge is that the Arena economy is so bad for playing competitively on a budget that I'm not confidence I can make a deck that's Arena-budget friendly each week. Considering that you often need at least eight rare lands just to make a two/three color deck function keeping a deck around 15 total rares/mythic is tough, and based on past 15 rare decks not everyone considered that budget friendly for Arena :(
@@MTGGoldfish I think you should stop considering it an economy. You dont exchange anything on arena so it should be considered a money pit. I just 5-0 on mtgo with a $60 budget deck because mtgo is an economy. Abzan is great right now btw. Edit: I can trade them back for different cards too. Feels good.
@@goncaloferreira6429 it's not really a myth if you get to experience it every time the meta changes. Before watching video: 3 Plains seems a bit risky. What if a Rogue of your Valakut Exploration flips one over? Ruinous Ultimatum becomes uncastable. Would definitely run 4 Plains. On Arena Budget: Surprisingly good! Yeah, there's a lot of rares, but other than the full four copies of Ruinous Ultimatum and Pylath (most decks that run them don't run the full playset) all the rares in this deck are applicable to multiple decks. The full four copies of Valakut Exploration and Felidar Retreat will continue being good for the next two years, Fabled Passage is basically required in this meta, Scooze is really good, and Kenrith is something most players already picked up back in Fires of Invention standard. The rares are numerous, but very good value compared to a lot of the other Budget Magics that run very specific rares like Verazol. After the matches, I think cutting the Island for a fourth Plains and cutting the Mystical Disputes in the sideboard would be best. Don't get me wrong, since UB control is already the bad matchup this does hurt, but I kind of think that Rogues are still too popular to risk losing the ability to cast Ruinous because they happen to turn over a single Plains. The one thing that makes me think this is wrong is that I cannot figure out what would be the best sideboard card to fight against UB control instead of Mystical Dispute. I'll have to workshop it.
I always try to mention it in the wrap up/article if we skip matchups, in this case we just mostly dodged Yorion (probably didn't hurt that it was recorded a few days ago before Yorion hit its peak).
Pylath has been a monster in limited for me. Skyclave sentinel as well. Just absolute all stars in my 10+ drafts. I'm happy to see my big planty boy doing work for Seth here.
Could be a good non-budget build. I think that if you have Ugin over Ruinous Ultimatum you can be straight three colors, since Ruinous Ultimatum is the main reason to be black.
40:10 If he attacked with the 4/5 and offered the free kill with the Lovestruck Beast it would've been lethal with the Valakut Exploration. I don't think the opponent even would've noticed that taking 6 from Ooze would've killed him. Either way if he did still decide to block the Ooze then he would've taken the 4 from the plant.
i love budget decks but it would be nice if you say its for paper or for arena or do budget mtg for arena. This deck is maybe cheap for paper but not for arena. i dont have that many wildcards :(
