I am roughly the same dude (but asian) with same hobbies (childhood) and I now drive the 981 Boxster S (1st Porsche since Oct 2022). I appreciate the videos and also the wakeup calls. Great to see how you can "return to roots" and be true to yourself.
Thank you, mate. Looking at your channel, I see we also have similar tastes in watches and motorcycles. The R1200 is one of my favourite bikes of all time - my dad had one for many years.
Nice 981! Only change I've made to my Boxster is replacing Yokohama all seasons with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. On track and street, this simple change took grip, ride, handling and steering feel to the next level.
Thanks. I just changed my tires the other day. There was a big sales on P-Zeros, so I went with them again. Next time, I’ll go Michelin PS4. Awesome tyres.
Just got the same set of tires done from p zero to pilot 4s. Awesome grip. Love my 981
I made the change to the All Season Pilot Sport tires also and they are awesome. Big plus is you get great handling with tires that have a treadwear rating in excess of 500.
Love this Peter, the C4S light bar is a favourite. Porsche is hard to improve, they do allot as standard. Way more than most manufacturers, forged slipper pistons etc, it already has race engine DNA.
I think people are afraid to drift from manufacturers standards due to potential snobbish comments from others, which is a shame, I love personalising my cars in a tasteful way and feel everyone should do it. Be fearless and walk tall 😊
I’m with you, JD. Snobs be damned.
Hi Peter, love your excellent videos about your Boxster as well as your positive take on life. I also have a white 981 Boxster, and have done many mods over the two plus years that I have owned it. The rear light strip you installed looks fantastic on your car, so I just bought one and installed it. Excellent quality and fitment, it greatly updates the look of the rear of the car.
I also had replaced the steering wheel with a modern 991 version purchased on eBay, again really updates the look and love the paddles versus the buttons for shifting the PDK.
All the best from Bob in Florida!
Thank you, Bob - you just made my day - on Christmas Day, no less! 👍😄
Tasteful mods are so nice. Love the look of this! I have a 987 cayman right now and looking to go to a 981 boxster around the end of this year, currently dreaming about things like this that I wanna do once I get it 😂
I am legitimately going to be ordering one in the next couple weeks.
Hello Peter. I just found your channel and immediately subscribed. I made a deal for my first Boxster a a few months ago. The only other one I ever owned was a 924. It wasn't fast but it was fun and I was 24 in SoCal in the 80's. I have been able to spend a little time driving the Boxster and fell in love with it. A friend of mine has a 2008 Boxster. Not an "S". He bought it new I'm sorry I don't know all the model numbers. He has a very nice car collection It's low miles and has been in a climate controlled space and cared for. And then he kissed the guard rail driving it on an icy road. That was about 3 years ago. I was up his way last summer and stopped in. There it sat. Right in it's spot with all the dusty parts and panels to fix it. I don't do bondo. I told him I always wanted on of those and what was he going to do with it? So the dance began. He said "what will you give me for it"? I told him "I don't have any money how about a trade"? He said " whatcha got"? I threw some things out. "How about a big ambulance or a rough 54 Chevy 3600 or an older bobcat"? No bites, not even a nibble. So I went big with my 50 mph custom chassis golf cart. So I'm getting a Porsche. Your video inspired me and I called him to make arrangements next week to pick it up. I'll take the big trailer because I know he will fill it up with stuff. The only racing I do is drag racing. I'm building a 53 Chevy 1/2 ton with a 1200 hp blown nitrous straight 6 in it and a manual. Should run about 175 in the quarter. That really pi$$es the purist off. Sorry so long. Thank you for your time.
Great story! Love it!! I bet you’re the only person in the world to trade a golf cart for a Porsche, and a 50mph one at that! Glorious! Thanks for subscribing - I look forward to more of your comments in future. 😄
His wife kept telling him to get rid of it she was tired of looking at it.@@peterfritzphoto
Well I ordered my led tail light strip from Porsche master. Can’t wait to install it and see how cool it looks! Fingers crossed 🤞…
Good for you, Allan. I still love mine.
First video that’s made me want to chop my 718 in for a 981. As ever Peter top quality stuff
Thank you, Jon! Much appreciated. 👍
Having owned both, I must say I prefer driving the 981. By far. But prefer the steering wheel of the 718.
@@davidwang5354 I’d love a 718 wheel, but they’re over $3k…
I’m so stoked! I just installed my led brake light, and it looks AMAZING! Wish I could add a pic.
Awesome!
@@peterfritzphoto, thank you for “showcasing” this product Peter, definitely sets my Cayman apart from the others, and the installation was a breeze. 👍
@@allantetreault5312 Outstanding! I certainly love mine. 👍
Your videos are great man.
Thanks, Robert!
Great info thanks for posting Greetings from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks, Gord.
A lot more subtle than I thought it would be, but it looks great!
I agree. I was worried it would be too blatant, but apart from the wing having to rest a little higher, it looks factory. I love it.
Really enjoying your videos. My first Porsche was a '19 Macan S. Got the 'bug' from my dad. I bought a '16 981 Boxster about 6 months ago and I love it. Mine is a 6-speed manual and it is a blast to drive. I like this rear light mod. I am also looking for a few subtle ways to make mine stand out. Thanks for making videos.
Thank you! Yes, I love the rear light bar. I’m about to install the clear version to match a set of GTS tail lights that are also going on the car. 👍
So far I’ve put high flow air filters and a Soul Performance cat back exhaust which greatly improves the car’s character with a deep burble breaking into the classic flat six howl at higher revs. I installed a Renn Psort phone holder. One great mod is a clear window between the seats where the mesh screen is. The mesh is really lame as it blocks rear visibility/ clarity and the clear lane, blocks more wind. Sun coast Oarts had a set of black 20” 718 wheels which I got on clearance so now I have summer tires on my silver Carrera S wheels and all season tires on the black wheels. The black wheels are very popular with the younger crowd but being an older guy I prefer the classic silver contrasting with the black paint color. I’ve thought of putting a gloss carbon duck bill spoiler on the trunk as the duck bill on the Spyder looks really sharp to my eyes but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Cheers and thanks for the content!
Thanks for sharing, William. I agree re the black wheels. Hate ‘em. I think the clear wind deflector was the very first mod I did - that mesh one is dangerous. 👍
I have a 981 in Melbourne! I'll keep at eye out for yours. I agree, its expensive modifying my 981 compared to my cheap Alfa Romeo giulietta. Suspension in our car is perfect for the road, so the only mods I will be making is, Valved Exhaust, GTS front bumper, LED bulb conversion, and a new sound system consisting of Audison speakers , sub and amp. Good luck with your car.
@@cadenguyen463 What colour is yours, Cade? I’ll keep an eye out. I just installed Ohlins coilovers on mine, and although it’s now lower than stock, the ride is still very good, and the handling superb!
@@peterfritzphoto Mine is a Boxster 981 (White).
@@cadenguyen463 Cool! We’re a rare couple.
@@peterfritzphoto damn you went lower ? That’s brave . Might put thicker / adjustable anti roll bars .
@@cadenguyen463 It's about the same height now as an S version.
3:10 if we were all honest and not pressured by the 911 dogma, even as someone who loves the 911 and dreams of it: I find the 981 as beautiful as the 911. Both speak the Porsche language in a different dialect.
We’ll said, Ibrahim. I must admit, I sometimes look back at my car as I walk away and think, “Damn, that thing looks good!”
Comparing like for like, the 981 Boxster looks way better than the 911 Cabriolet in my opinion. The 911 is too rear-heavy without the roofline, its defining design element, to draw the eye away from its substantial rear end.
@@stephenfoster6940 Oh, if we’re comparing with the 911 cab, I DEFINITELY agree - the Boxster kills it for looks - especially when roofless.
My taste is quite particular but imo it would look pretty good on japanese wheels. Te37s, tws’, advan 5 spokes or bbs RIA’s
I did think about wheels at first, but since the Carrera Classics already match my original wish, I’m staying with them. 👍
I love the look. Wish they did one for the 987.1
5:34 - Who’s that handsome boy who walked in? 😏
The nicest boy in the world!

Hey, thank you for this video and the link I just ordered mine. I can't wait. Price was reasonabut. I'm trying to decide. Should I try to put it in or just have the professionals do it... I am pretty handy but I know they would get it done faster than me
It's a pretty easy job. Just make sure you clean the surface well, you adjust the resting height of the spolier so it doesn't try to jam the LED strip, and that you tuck the taillight wires nicely out of the way when you re-insert it.
@@peterfritzphoto will do... I will probably watch a video of getting it installed about 4 or 5 times before I attempt mine. But I'm very handy so I'm pretty sure I can do it. It just my timing thank you
Just back from a drive in the 981s up to Hope Island and over Mt Tambourine (GC Aust). Only mods, Red Seatbelts, @ $2k ridiculous but look the money and a new card for the info system that now supports Apple Car Play. It came to me on 20's with Michelins. Just put new Michelins on the back. The Pirelli's are supposed to be better for ultimate handling but wear quicker and worse ride. Have tracked it at Ipswich Raceway when we had a Porsche event up here. These cars don't need much modification.
Sounds utterly delightful. 👍
Try receive more information on 981 rear light under the spoiler
Just look for the link in the video description.
Looking good Peter, definitely suits in my opinion 👌
Thanks, Stu. That’s what I reckon: subtle.
Me too, I ordered everthing that i wanted before i even owned it. I knew i was getting one. I had it modifed literally in 15, Minutes after i got it home. Was them Ugly orange corner lights. I ended up buying it with 48.9K miles on it and i than ended up putting a (BODY) Techart replica front lip and side diffusers, Carbon fiber side intakes, GT4 diffuser, GT4 Carbon duckbill, blacked out badges, Oled clear smoked sidelights, GTS taillights, Led hi and low beams done correctly, Hood stripe, Porsche operations black wheel upgrade, (Suspension) H&R Cup kit ie* Springs, Spacers some other stuff basically the GT4 Setup. (ENGINE) K&N Intakes, Soul Titanium exhaust, Intakes and exhaust sound like a Gallardo. (INTERIOR) Carbon console, infotainment, Shifter. Door stripes. I added more body color to the interior gauges and vents like the porsche operations. Painted the brake calipers yellow to pop on the blue and black wheels. I am sure i am missing some other stuff too.
Oh wow!! That’s a LOT of upgrades! I have a 982 wheel on the way, plus a couple of other minor things. I’ve been contemplating a light grey double front/rear boot stripe. What kind did you do, and what colour is your car? Any photos I can see somewhere? Thanks for sharing. 👍
I love that light I gotta have it. I'm looking for the link to purchase one
Go to www.porschemaster.com. 👍
Can I retrofit this onto my 987.1 with a little modification? Please tell me the length of the light bar for the 981 so I can start making plans. Looks great btw.....
I don't know if you can, Bill. It's exactly 99cm long.
Look at TWS T66-F wheels. Lightest forged wheels available new. Macpherson struts all around. They all need negative camber. Even for road use to work properly. The standard suspension is solid. High quality, stiffer, inverted monotube coilovers like Ohlins R&T are simply better in every aspect. Including ride quality. They require camber plates. And the car needs an LSD if it doesn't have one already. Falken RT660s have a very stiff sidewall & offers the best steering feel of any tire available. Solid steering rack bushings will help steering feel also 🍻🏎
Thanks for all that juicy advice.
Looks the part this bar! Watching another video of your Boxster and hearing the lovely sound is your´s fitted with the Porsche sportexhaust or is standard?
Hi Jeremy. Mine has the Porsche sport exhaust, yes. Such a great musical instrument!
Only thing I did was tint the tail lights. It came w 20" Carrera wheels. Plan on 7 or 10 mil spacers on rear only
The spacers definitely improve the look.
Hi Peter, Great video's. Ive just gone from a 981 BS to a 981 Spyder. I love both (my wife wants the Boxster back, but thats a different topic). I put GTS tail lights , 718 Steering wheel which is a significant improvement over the 981 gen wheel, and retrofitted PSE., which was the best £1800 i spent on any car. I also put the X-73 anti roll bars (a lot thicker) front and rear which really improved the handling. However, before i sold the Boxster i purchased the complete X-73 sport suspension kit which i never got round to fitting. However, the Spyder has it from factory and if you want to transform the feel and handling of your car to another level I would strongly recommend this. I was absolutely correct to have it on my Boxster upgrade list, and as you don't have PASM you could do the same. It also drops the car 20mm and Boxsters do sit a little high with a big gap from wheel to arch.
Good luck buddy and keep the video's coming.
Hi Villaman. Thanks for these insights. I agree with you regarding PSE; I’m so lucky my car was optioned with it. I’ve toyed with the 718 wheel, too, but they’re $3k+ over here. As for the X-73 setup, now that’s tempting… Thanks for dropping in, and for your kind words.
@@peterfritzphoto Hi Peter, Ebay is your friend for the steering wheel. I got mine with airbag for about £600 then had to get that conversion module which is the worst value for money thing i think ive ever spent. Its a couple of wires and a PCB ! :)

Love the vids… but how do you get around with the wheel spacers being illegal in Victoria?? I’m interested
Porsche supplies wheels spacers as an option, so I presume they’re okay. My previous insurer said they’re fine with them, too, but seek your own advice.
Lovely tail light. I cannot fail to notice the beautiful landscape in the backdrop at 1m20s, where is it? Also, are those your photos on the wall behind you? Where can I see more of your work?
That’s one of my favourite roads, running between Molesworth and Alexandra, in Victoria. Yes, those photos are mine. You can see more at peterfritzphoto.com. 👍
Hey Peter, just subscribed to your channel. I love your approach! For your LED rear strip light installation, do you have a gap with the spoiler? I'm in Phoenix, AZ. Is it available in the U.S.?
Hi Val - you have to adjust the height of the spoiler a little to create a gap - it’s all in the video. You can order them online via the link in the description. 👍
Peter, now that you have a few months post installation of the light kit. Are you still happy with it? Is the 3M tape still holding on?
Yes, it's held up perfectly - no issues, and I still love it.

@@davidlowe4093 Yeah - I never thought of it like that. You’re right. Thanks for dropping in, Dave.
I need to respectfully disagree with the looks comparison. I have a 992 and I believe the Boxster looks better. I’m number 2 on the list for a 4.0 GTS. Nice video.
Funny you should say that, Robert. From the front-quarter angle, I now think the Boxster is the better looker, too.
@@peterfritzphoto See what I mean! Just hoping I get an allocation.

It is. It’s explained in the video.
That spoiler light looks pretty dope! I wonder how I could adapt one for my Roadtrek Zion? LOL!

@@peterfritzphoto There are two techniques to achieve the same result of removing all the water from the system. You can either open all the drains and force air through the system or fill the system with 'antifreeze.'
This includes the water heater, the fresh tank, and the grey and black tanks.
It is easy enough to do on one's own if you are into that sort of thing. Sort of like changing the oil on your car.

Lol. Actually, you can see it each time you lock or unlock your car in low light (providing your lights are on auto). I always glance back at mine when I lock it before I close the garage. It looks gorgeous.

It’s funny that you’re talking about the ease of maintainance, mentioning the things that you really need to change very rarely, and not mentioning a things that you change often like air filter or spark plugs, changing which is much more complicated on Boxter/cayman than BMW.
For me it looks pretty biased not mentioning such things
I don’t recall mentioning ‘ease of maintenance’. Where did I say that? In any case, Porsche does that - not me.
Did you buy your 981 from dealer Pete?
Yes, from an independent in Surrey Hills, Victoria, called Riversdale Prestige - one of the nicest groups of people I’ve ever dealt with (and I’ve dealt with dozens of dealers over the decades).

Yeah there's not much improvement needed to these cars. The one thing I'd consider on your car is swapping the steering wheel to one with paddle shifters. When I'm driving in higher performance mode I only use the paddles and they are intuitive and engaging and really enhance the driving experience. I'd still rather have a manual trans. but an injury precludes that so paddles with the PDK are the next best thing
Funny you should suggest that...
@@peterfritzphoto I take it another video is on the way :)
@@RobertSmith-bh5cv Indeed - as soon as it arrives, I’ll make a video of me fitting it. 😄
@@peterfritzphoto I'll look forward to seeing it. You'll like the paddles. Not a monumental change but when you're getting into it, taking the engine to higher revs and cornering hard, it's very entertaining and you're a much bigger part of the process.
@@RobertSmith-bh5cv I wanted it more for the looks, but you make a good point. Did yours require an adapter, or was it just a straight bolt on? Also, did your original wheel have audio/phone etc. controls?
i think about enjoying a car. I don't think any mass made product will ever be unique. If only you could build and entire car yourself.
I'd love to build a car from scratch, but it would be a monumental task - and pretty costly! :-)
981 you mean rather than 971
Thank you! Stupid typo...
A dissenting voice here I’m afraid. As a general principle I think that any car that is modified to look like a newer and different model has its design integrity undermined by the introduction of such anachronistic elements. That’s why the intake guards work for me (as well as being functional) but the LED light strip doesn’t. And while I’m being picky and offering gratuitous personal opinions, I think that the EVE font is incompatible with the other badges: 3 different fonts on the car is a bit incoherent. Would it be better done perhaps in the Porsche proprietary font?
I totally understand, Stephen, and in most cases, I’m reluctant to steer too far away from the original design language. I’ve had ten Benzes in the past, and I was always adamant that any enhancement should be subtle. I hate it when people throw a late model grille with the gopping 3-pointed star in the middle on a 20-YO E-Class. Re the EVE font - that was intentional. While MAXIMUS on the MX-5 was done in the Mazda font, I chose the same font for EVE as used in the movie, WALL-E. I don’t have the Boxster script on my car, so it’s just the two fonts. Maybe you’re right, though. I might recreate EVE in the PORSCHE font and see how it looks. Thanks for dropping in, mate. 👍
