Main tip for assistants: throw yourself out there when you start somewhere new. They love seeing you wanting to actually be apart of the team. I got hired the same day as my working interview and I had a hard time the first three days but after I threw myself in there with the doctor and got the hang of everything in like a week. I’m still struggling a bit but you won’t learn unless you try. Also don’t over think either, if you’re new don’t be upset, their training you and know you won’t get everything the first few weeks. Make sure to always ask questions and write everything down so you don’t ask twice. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
I just finished the same program!! I was wondering since the school doesn't certify you in radiology. Where did you get your radiology certification from? I'm really struggling trying to figure it out!
First you need to figure out if your state requires it, then you can get certified through usually a local community college. When I lived in Florida they didn’t require it so I didn’t get it, but my job had me get it in Ohio.
How is it going 1 year later? Do you enjoy it? I'm thinking about doing expanded functions dental assistant with orthodontics also... I'm thinking LPN or DA? Any advice....How is the pay ?
People never realize how much dental assistants actually do. Anytime I tell someone I’m a DA they either think I clean teeth, or clean rooms. It gets so old lol
I love your videos! I just registered in a program. The program is only 3 months so I don’t know how much I can intake within that little time. Any advice on that? It’s super short and I feel like I have made a mistake. I am willing to learn as much as possible. I am even studying now & my classes do not start until July! Thank you!
I go on extern next monday & i was so nervous at first. But I recently went to the dentist & im no longer nervous! I feel like this stuff was meant for me! WISH ME LUCKKK!!
Dasha Goliday ohhh that’s cool so I’m assuming you’re working as dental assistant now. How’s that going ? I’m super interested in going to school for that and wanted to see different perspectives.
@@becca2958 yess! & i love it! My extern office vs where I work are completely different though where i work its pretty hectic & extremely busy & not gonna lie a little unorganized but i love assisting! 🙌🏾 it makes the job pretty fun! Lol
I am going to start school in January and I was wondering if you have any advice on having a part time job and being in school or would it be too much stress? How did you earn money in assisting school.
Myrranda Adams I’m going through Mott Community College/World Edu. It’s the same thing she’s doing and it’s 100% online! You can DM me on IG it you have any questions! @savannahbarkley
@Savannah Barkley Hey! I am also taking DA online course at MCC/World edu. How are you doing so far? I’m having a bit difficulty keeping up with my reading 😕
@@wisdomnova4317 How are you doing? mines all online as well and I feel like I am not learning as much as I should be. I do not feel like I will be prepared for my externships in January
Jada Marie Well, so far I just started working full time and really haven’t kept up with my reading. 😕 I actually just started to continue reading. I’m almost done with the course, but it is a bit difficult doing this especially since this profession is all hands on job.
Selena M I found it difficult to understand a lot. Especially since I am not able to sit in class and hear explanations with certain topics. I try not to get discouraged because I know I would learn a lot more hands on. But good luck girly we will get through it ♥️
I’m training to be an assistant I start in 3 days and this view was awesome to see you talking about your experience! I live in Hawaii where there are absolutely no requirements to get a degree/schooling or internship experience. So I am very nervous.. I also read that the Hawaii state law says dental assistants can do prophys on children under 14?! I’m not sure if this job is going to expect me to do that but I am hoping that they will because that would be awesome! It’s like being a Hygenist without the school! Thanks for the video I subscribed to see what happens next in your career so keep posting!
i just graduated dental assisting school the past Sunday. i'm still looking for a office to extern 😬 i'm super nervous but i'm ready to start. i stopped worked to go to school & luckily my program was only 3 months. but i her you say you feel so content working again & im ready to feel like that 🥰 i miss it & i feel some type of way bc i'm not working yet
I am so happy for you that you are enjoying your job, im starting DA school next week and i am sooooo nervous , i am hoping after i can get a job in ortho also i looooove ortho 😍
That is exactly how I feel about my job right now! I'm substitute teaching which is not full-time but I don't feel super productive/fulfilled when I'm at home all the time. I looove being with kids and getting to help out where I can with their education. I originally went to school for education but switched before graduating and now I feel more inspired to get into teaching (if the Army doesn't move us before I can get certified lol)!
So happy for you that are enjoying your new job! I am the same type of learner: show me first then let me try. It’s awesome that you’ve got a great trainer that wants to see you succeed! Makes all the difference!! And of course you have such a wonderful personality! That can be the most reassuring for patients -if they see you are confident (even if you are not quite sure but still learning).
I had a dental internship over the summer at a pediatric dental office! It was great experience I was assisting, sterilizing, shadowing, and handling some office work. Loved this video
Use to work the front desk at an orthodontist office and learning all the details of what went on in the back was so cool! Glad you’re loving your job!!!
I’m glad your first week went great! I’ve been an orthodontic assistant for 4 months now and I absolutely love it! I could feel the excitement you were feeling in this video because I felt the same way when I first started. I would love to see more videos on this topic! I’m definitely drawn to videos like this because I so can relate to it. I hope your second week goes just as great as your first!❤️
I felt the same way about parents when I started, especially because I worked with pediatric oncology I felt more pressured when doing things on my own, but overtime I’ve gotten close to the parents and children. Amazing experience.

Brenna Rubenstein haha YES! I can’t tell you how many people have already asked me “so do you plan on going to school to be a hygienist?” 🤣
Did you go to TMIKY?
What is that?

How long was your DA school? Do you think a 12 week program is enough time?
viviana ortega i went to school for about a year!
My externship hours is 180… girl yours was really short.
Every school is different :)
I went to Fortis in Pensacola 😋 I wonder if you work at fishbein! That’s the big ortho practice there in the gulf coast😜
