    Very helpful information. I really liked your illustration of the skin layers and how the different treatments disrupt production of melasma/hyperpigmentation. Thanks for the links so we can explore further. 😂

    Thank you so much, Lisa, for the deep-dive of information that you shared. I checked out my Ulta MD sunscreens and they are all tinted. One of them had the iron oxides towards the top of the ingredient deck and the other two were down towards the bottom.

    • @LisaMonique

      That’s great! I think companies are starting to formulate with more iron oxides now, so hopefully there will be more choices with iron oxides towards top of list

    Thank you for this video. I have a few spots of hyperpigmentation on my cheeks. I've always thought that this was caused by using a tanning bed years ago when I was in my 20's and 30's while taking birth control pills. I have recently been using skin care products to help fade my spots plus using a fuller coverage foundation

      @@LisaMonique finally watched! I’ve seen several videos out there on what is hp & the causes & treatments! This one was by far the best in terms of clearly explaining in accessible way what it is & options for treating. I love that you encourage medical advice too. The lack of clarity in other videos I felt came from trying to break this complex topic apart into separate topics and selling products in each fragmented part. That’s just my opinion of course & I definitely think you tubers are completely entitled to monetizing. They’re not charity workers!! But I do appreciate your sincerity & approach, you’re awesome, thank you 😊😊!!

    Feeling overwhelmed by all the info in this video. But I did get to buy tinted sunscreen & I already use the drunken elephant product. I actually got it in a kit at Sephora for $98 which had many products in the kit & the size was the same as the $90 bottle. So def a good buy. And I do use retinoids & glycolic acid in my skin treatment.

    I also have melasma. It was diagnosed in my early 40’s. I’ve never been a sun worshiper, my dermatologist said it happens with the change in hormones as we age 🤷‍♀️. Anyhoo, I kind of stopped using the hydrocortisone compound a couple years ago. Went back to see the dermatologist recently as the melasma came back and with a vengeance. I’m now using a similar compound as the one you’ve been subscribed and I’m already seeing a difference after 1 month of use! The spots aren’t gone but they’ve definitely faded.
    Thank you so much fir this video. Your explanation was really clear. Just wondering, do you use a vitamin C product as well? My derm has me using a C serum in the morning and the compound hydrocortisone/retinoids/Kojic in the evening.

    • @LisaMonique
      @LisaMonique  2 роки тому +1

      I don’t because my skin is sensitive to vitamin C. My derm said I could use low concentration, but she doesn’t always recommend because she’s seen a lot of overuse and irritation, especially on last couple years. She said to start just with her compound first.

      @@LisaMonique I’m looking forward to a “results” video!
      So far the vitamin C serum isn’t causing any problems, but I don’t have sensitive skin.

    Hi Lisa, for a type 4 you should definitely stay away from AHA!!!! Per Dr V. Ratten on UA-cam, it can be irritating and leads to more hyperpigmentation. BHA is okay btw, so that's what I use in the morning only.

  • @jenniferlee9029

    Hi Lisa can you recommend a tinted mineral sunscreen for very light skin? I've tried so many and they're just too dark, even the drmtlgy sunscreens. It's so frustrating 😫

    • @LisaMonique
      @LisaMonique  2 роки тому

      I’m going to guess if you’re very fair you’re not going to be able to use one. I’m not even sure if the palest foundations have iron oxide’s in them because iron oxides are a dark color in their rarest form. I would think you would need to just use a basic physical sunscreen instead

    Lots of great info here. I too am a level 4 on the scale and it's really a shame that the medical or esthetician who did your procedure that made your situation worse didn't do their job and know that. These places are so quick to offer a procedure but it's not a one size fits all. I just started a glycolic acid (Good Genes), but can I use a tret/or retinol type product after? What did you do when you started the DE product?

    • @LisaMonique
      @LisaMonique  2 роки тому +1

      I don’t use drunk elephant and tretinoin on the same day. But my skin is somewhat sensitive I’ve learned even though I never thought it was before, So even if you don’t have a reaction for a week or two, after two months it might finally harm your skin barrier enough to see a reaction. So I think personally alternating is best

    Any info whether melasma/ hyperpigmentation fades after menopause? I'm hoping that is the case. No product has taken care of my problem. And my skin reacts to all those treatments and products. I have been using an facial astringent with salicylic acid and I have seen a difference. My hyperpigmentation is fading, but I don't know if that's the reason or if it's just a coincidence.

    • @LisaMonique
      @LisaMonique  Рік тому +1

      I'm not sure...the number one way to reduce is stay out of the sun 😩. Doesn't work for me because I love being outdoors, so I just use my tinted sunscreens. Most products will just fade but not eliminate the hyperpigmentation, though lasers are the most successful (for my darker skin, it has to be Pico lasers).

    Face it. I fade my spot by dry fasting, others use creams, serums etc. We should just all go back to wearing beautiful hats with veils and carry lovely parasols in our begloved hands. Sigh. And we'd look so much classier and more beautiful and mysterious as well. Thx Lisa for the science behind all this. ~~Chanel

      Lol. I actually think about that a lot with all our fear of the sun. There were a lot of diseases that they solved with fresh air and sunshine. I think there is something to actually getting a little sun…

      @@LisaMonique Or at least take some vitamin D3. When I carry my heavy bags of food to the homeless along with recyleables I'm in the sun with no screen or block on, just sunglasses. If I have to go further with heavier bags and the sun is out I do the same thing. Also a hat bc I like them, put pretty pins on them, Strangely if I actually go somewhere and it's nearing twilight I usually put some fdtn on and lipstick, it has some screen in it anyway. When you live in SoCal the sun is just too constant and I am NOT going to wear it inside. But hey I look half my age, my jeans are now pullup pants, I guess I'll get by. But all the men here havbe big beer guts, no hair, woman squeeze themslves into leggings. I dont drink but 3-5 x a yr, so it can be damned lonely as far as a dating scene. Ahhh well.
