- Seriously, nobody doesn't like John Powell.
[Boring tech note: the video's rough, I know, but given what Movie Maker's put me through in the last week, like freezing up if I tried to adjust the volume on a clip, it's a miracle that this thing got done at all.]
Oh, and be sure to grease the wheels of commerce by purchasing the CDs of John Powell.
John Powell, Hans Zimmer, John Williams,... They are true geniuses.
The word for Powell's music is "fun." It reaches soaring heights like Williams at times; it has the sort of emotion that James Horner is famous for, but throughout it all, there's this uniquely fun sound. He must truly love what he does.
I must say that I don't care quite as much for his recent urban-action-movie-style music.

John Powell is my favourite composer, he is a genius. I swear, I can't listen to a piece of his music without tearing up because he mostly includes the main "theme" (depending on the film). It really is beautiful.
this guy is simply a legend. who knew that some of our favourite movie-songs were written and recorded by one man.
John Powell is one of my role models, the work he did for italian job was just amazing, every single song was awesome! I love every minute of it!

@laughingspirit13 If there's a person more upset than me that Powell lost for "How to Train Your Dragon", I have yet to meet them. That was unabashed robbery and I truly hope that the people responsible are brought to justice.

Mass effect own part of its reputaion to John Powell, his music is what pushed Bioware's ME2 to a new height, one that hasn't been seen for a long time.
Dragons lost to freaking Social Network. I think the fact that I can't remember one single piece of orchestral music from this movie speask for itself.

I like the music of Agent Cody Banks. What's it called from that movie? I really love that he made that music like Chicken Run style.
The "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" theme (in the video) is similar to the opening theme of "You, Me, and Dupree", by Theodore Shapiro.
That evolution song sounds like something you'd hear in buy mode in the sims games :)

@thistleinfotech Even if that is true, a comparison between the two cannot be made - it's not like with like. Hans Zimmer is about big powerful tracks that build up a scene...Powell is more about easy listening tracks that don't take over scenes in film....which isn't necessarily a bad thing. They're both wonderful composers, different and unique sounding - thus no need for debate over which is better.

How the heck could "HTTYD" lose to "The Social Network"? The music in that movie was barely memorable.
GIGLI was his worst.
This has nowhere near the best tracks of each soundtrack... for example, in the Bourne films there is the really good recurring theme (like in "nach deutschland"), and in X-Men Last Stand there is the awesome recurring section (e.g. at the end of "Angel's Cure").

@Seger213 Damn right he is no Hans Zimmer,he is 10 times better. Zimmer is the most overrated composer around.
ahhhhh the soundtrack to jumper is quite possibly the worst score if ever heard ontop of the worst movie iv ever seen nothing against powell he composed one of my favourite film scores in happy feet but deriously missed the mark with jumper
