We're going to make mistakes. We're mere mortal women. Practice this kind of apology: "I'm sorry for disrespecting you when ..." and then allow him to say what he needs to say, NO defending, arguing. Use "I hear you" and see him relax into the knowledge that you are safe.

That’s beautiful, Laura! Thank you for being humble enough to share your story. It’s a wonderful example of prioritizing communication in marriage.

Laura I loved the story, it just shows that you and your husband really have strong faith in God most couples would have gotten in to a fight but you and your husband really have strong faith in God 🙏.

Thank you for your vulnerability, I had tears in my eyes because I could relate to all of it.
Jane Austen references are always appreciated!

Aww, I'm glad it touched your heart. Yesterday, just because, he bought me a mug!! It's all Oklahoma stuff and he knows besides dachshunds, clouds, homeschooling, and buffalo (and sea turtles), I LOVE Oklahoma. It was so thoughtful and I gushed and during our rosary he thanked God for making me happy to often that day. All of this AFTER we had the money confession and he said please not to spend. These skills are incredible as they create a space for our husbands to make these beautiful gifts. And because I confessed and apologized, I was able to receive with a pure conscience. Old habits die hard. As @coachcarolcatholic says, we have to get off the super highway we've created in our minds and forge a new path, one with trees and bramble, slowly creating a new way of thinking and letting weeds grow in our old ways.

These skills require a good deal of humility but there is peace and joy on the other side. And to make you feel better - anyone who things they *don't* need to work on pride, they do! haha I think I read that in Humility of Heart.

We are not perfect, we all have flaws and make mistakes. Only God is Perfect. That's why we must strive for sainthood. The Lord says in Leviticus 19:2 Be perfect as I, Yaweh, your God is Perfect. And Christ in the Sermon on the Mount reiterates it when he says, Be Perfect as Your Heavenly Father is Perfect. That's in Matthew 5:48

Emma is one of my favorite books! The 2009 mini series is great too! My daughter loves it as well.

It's SO long! haha This is my second read and after LOVING the Gwyneth Paltrow/Toni Collette version I just watched Emma. and I'm realizing there's a lot there that's true to the book. I'll see if my library has the miniseries. I LOVE the BBC's Pride and Prejudice.
