  • Mesa Boogie Studio Pre-Amp in for a service. Tasty guitar pre amp is in for a service and check over. It's not been used for a while and the customer wanted it looking at before using it in his studio. We service this unit then give it a good demo. This is as good as it gets.

I purchased my Studio Preamp from its' original owner in 1995. It is a great preamp. One of the best ever built, imo. Great job on the video! Thanks for taking the time to do this!

The perfect counterpart for your Carlsborough power amp.

Beautiful jazz tone, cleans with real character. Great drive tone too. Fab guitar work. Just imagine hauling that lot into a van and setting up at a venue. The management would throw a fit.

Hello Rob, thank you. Yes you are right. That's a lot of gear to take to gigs. And yet years ago we would have thought it normal. Take care Rob.

I'd say you found the front-end for that amplifier. What a match up.
You could spend half a day tweaking the knobs on that Mesa and find all kinds of fun zones.
It would be worth finding the instruction manual for that pre-amp. Mesa is known to put all kinds of features in their switches, knobs, pots, footswitches etc...Things that might not be readily apparent on the control panel.
Thanks for the cool video. Keep holding her down boss.

Hello. Yes, they matched up well. that's an idea. Never thought about a manual for it. I will have a scout online. Thanks for watching and take care.

There’s a lovely clock like chime from the springs on your mount :)
    Keep up the great work.

Your rusty is fine m8, the quartals were a treat, great playing as always, the pickups on the green studio sound nice, seems like a great sounding preamp, all in all another great video.

Hello, thank you. The pickups are Seymour Duncan's. It is a really cool pre-amp. Mega sound. Take care.

Quite a well thought of pre-amp and as you say the clean side is excellent. I had a DC-5 Mesa in the 90's. When I finally worked out where the knobs should go to suit my guitar and ears, it was very good, but like a lot of good things it eventually got stolen at a gig so I never got to know how it would fair with long term gigging. Great playing Martyn.. I do like the sounds you get from your PRS.

Hello Pete. There is nothing worse than a thief amongst musicians. All the Mesa gear sounds great. Some of it isn't easy for fix mind. I love the PRS sound. That guitar is desperate for re-fret. I still use it for my gigs but the frets are shot.
      Take care Pete.

@@vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher If you can afford it, go for stainless steel fret wire when you do it, or have it done.. All my guitars are now stainless fretted and they never show any signs of ware and sound like they have a bit more 'presence'.

I’ve worked on one or two of those back in the day. Those IC electrolytic caps are definitely not original. They came with the usual blue Mesa labeled caps…as you know they were rebranded Spraques.

Hello David. I remember the blue Mesa caps now you have mentioned them. Haven't worked on anything Mesa for years. Take care David.

I bought Studio preamp if I remember right it is serial number #058 or something. I think it´s not giving all the gain out it has to offer. How much usually costs to have it checked by pro and maybe change tubes? I have not opened it. It has two outputs, the other one works badly and the unit overall has some hum, not that it bothers me.
