      @CR.VFX.7Same here! I’ll be honest I had issues with ps4 controller (seems like the newer the DualShock the faster the issues) but nowhere near as quick as ps5! Considering how light and cheap feeling the ps3 controllers were I remember having mine at least a year before needing a new one! I’ve had my ps5 slim for like 5 months same as you and already dealing with this crap! I loved my GC & Xbox 360 back in the day but overall I’ve always been a PS fan since the ps2 era not just because of Sony exclusives but just always preferred PS! As time goes by I’m seriously thinking of taking up my friends offer who builds awesome gaming PC’s and he said he’ll just charge me his expenses nothing else! I’m not big on keypads but as long as I can find a controller which works for PC then I’m good! Part of me still likes PS but their lack of more quality exclusives plus all the other crap like upping the price for DualShock 5, the ps5 pro which I intended to wait to get for my 1st ps5 after finally getting the cash (so glad I just went with a slim instead) & all the other greedy sh** is really out of hand! Too bad so many kids & casual gamers pour money into Sony no matter the scam I think adds to the greed even more!

      @@andersonaldo1340 no as much as you wish it was they just are dumb its the touch pad and speaker it let's to much dust and debris into it and hair and all it take to get drift is a little bit of dust like seriously the dust or hair in the wrong place fcked the controller since the design of the stick is basically the same for all generations its why 90 % of the time you can fix it by cleaning it you don't usually have to replace the pieces inside I'm not saying it doesn't happen controller abuse will tear up the metal strings on the calibration piece but it's rare its mainly dust and its important to not fck that metal piece up when cleaning it. But I have my touch pad taped along with the speaker and I have had mine since ps5 came out and it's fine ,and I bought a box full of broken ones from a buddy I fixed almost all of them with this video resold them at 30 a piece made a killing lol

    Great tutorial but please be aware to not push those two metal semicircles (see 6:45) down too much when cleaning the potentiometer with the q-tip and alcohol. If they are two close to the white plastic, they wont make contact with the graphite pad and will likely make your drift issue much worse (as it did for me). Also the two metal semicircles should ideally be right next to eachother with very little separation between the two. I used a pair of tweezers for this and once i assembled my controller, my stick drift was completely gone

One rough touch against the spring before reinserting it back in the slot on the analog stick just might make your stick drift situation a whole lot worse. Only had this controller since Christmas so it's been a little less than 3 months. This took me 1 hour 15 minutes, had some dirt and gunk in the top sensor for the stick that was drifting (not sure how). Cleaned it out, put it all back together and the controller is now like new! Thanks man.
    NOTE: It's hard to see, but it's very easy to miss the fine little threads from the q-tip that get stuck on the sensors. Make sure you look at it all from different angles and move your work light around as well.

      @patricklouis439 Рік тому +1

      I wouldn't recommend going into the mechanism with a Q-tip, but if you must you can wet down the webbing with some isopropyl and that'll keep them from getting stuck. That way the iso will evaporate and you won't have any liquid in your electronics.

    Another word to the wise... When you remove the little white springy sensors, be careful using a cotton swab on them. They have tiny little spring arms that get caught in the cotton webbing and can bend. I have 20/20 eyesight and can barely see them. So if you clean it out and then you have an issue with the stick rebounding from right to left, you probably bent one. I bent mine back with tweezers and it's working again but I have a feeling I'll have to replace that little white piece eventually.

    Wanted to say that this vid also helped me fix my drift (so far)! As advice for anyone reading: If you are having to force something, you’re doing too much to whatever component it is you are forcing (for me it was the green squares that detect the horizontal/vertical input for the stick, which I assume will be others problem-point) be patient and gently jimmy it open or even try GENTLY pushing the white center inwards to give some leverage. If it begins to give, you are getting close to opening it and continue the patience and gentle jimmy-ing open. You’ve taken all the cables out and thats the hardest part IMO so why trip at the finish line?
    Also, the white detecters in the green boxes are LOOSE and will likely fall out. That’s okay but handle them like a newborn baby because the gold lining is thin, fragile and hella important to the function of the stick. So if you have to, try opening the box over a container the white plate could land in and when putting it back in, NEVER handle it by the gold portions.
    Thanks again dude, ya might have just saved me 80-90$!😊

    Be careful when prying the green things open. I dont know what i did wrong but they wouldnt snap back into place. I had to use a TINY dot of superglue to get them to stay closed.
    Also be careful with the little ribbons on the bottom for the mic and whatever the other one is. Both of mine broke super easily like they were dry rotted or something. I never used the mic anyway, and i dont know what the other one is for but the controller still works fine.

    Do not attempt unless you're willing to risk further damaging your controller! Removing the shell, screws and ribbon cables is child's play but once you get to the potentiometer, it's like doing brain surgery.
    The main board has four delicate solder points that you have to work around. Any sudden movements and you will pop one of them off - as I did.
    If that wasn't bad enough, I couldn't get the north door on the potentiometer to snap closed again after cleaning the sensors. My repeated attempts have broken the tiny plastic clips so now the little door will never stay closed.
    I would have to buy a new potentiometer and learn to do a difficult solder (which isn't going to happen) so my controller is toast.
    Please consider this before attempting. Still no clue if this fix would have even worked if I'd been successful in putting everything back together.

    • @cccpike
      @cccpike Рік тому +1

      It is true you need to be careful. I would not recommend this unless you were used to making similar small repairs.
      Controllers are also not built to be repeatedly opened like this. I have an old PS4 controller which I've had to open several times to repeat the same repair, and over time several plastic clips have broken off, and most seriously one rim cable became frizzled after being removed and inserted too many times. I was able to repair it, but it did serve as a warning not to do this more often than is necessary, because the repair itself will cause wear and tear over time.

      @patricklouis439 Рік тому

      @@cccpike That's also a really good point. These things are usually not made to be opened repeatedly, but fortunately they sell replacement and custom cases so if yours gets too damaged you can swap the shell for a new one. Also you can usually re-solder any damaged connections if you happen to make any, but it is a good idea to have some experience doing small repairs before working on something you're not ready to replace.

      Yeah I’ve attempted it once today and I think I might have put the wrong white small disks in the opposite sides as I cleaned both sides which might be the reason it’s now constantly pulling to the left consistently or it’s something more complicated, I bought a second hand controller so my fault really

    Thank you so much. The problem with my controller was that one of the white thingies was broken and following your tutorial helped me notice. I had to buy a potentiometer (it was pretty cheap tho) to get the piece, but after I put it all together my controller worked perfectly. I appreciate the detailed steps on how to open the controller 💜

    I tried this and the drift I had disappeared! (I had drift going left on the left stick)
    The annoying part was that I then had a new drift, going up on the left stick.
    I then remembered how much less I cleaned the analog going up and down compared to the one going left and right and opened my controller back up to re-clean the analog again.
    Now the controller works like new!
    You saved me from having to buy a new controller and now I know just a little bit about the insides of one.
    Thank you!

    Going in I figured there was a 95% chance that I broke something, put it back together and it wouldn't turn on or some random button wouldn't work, or it just didn't fix it.
    BUT IT WORKED!!
    Edit: I had 3 controllers with stick drift and it fixed all 3 of them!

    The stutter-step was effecting all of my games that didn't feature a deadzone setting like Skyrim, Star Wars Fallen Order and my hoyoverse games. I followed this step-by-step (the ribbon part was the most nerve racking since they feel so fragile but just take your time) and it was well-worth it, I found a lot of dust and cat hair (how in the world does cat hair get in there??), swabbed everything with alcohol and now its working good as new. Thank you so much for the guide. I hope one day we will invent controllers that are truly drift-proof.

    If you drop your controller a lot this most likely won’t help you, but if you let your controller sit around and get dirt in there then I wouldn’t doubt this strategy works . I took my whole controller apart and did this, and it didn’t fix it but I have extreme stick drift it makes me do 360s lol, Best bet is to get a new controller💯

    The only thing that fixed it for me was bending those tiny copper plates upwards so when you clip the green bits,they stick to the carbon circles firmer

    • @zaxmaxlax
      @zaxmaxlax 2 роки тому

      That was the only solution for me, the tip of the plate was broken and the carbon inner circle was completely worn out, I had to bend the plate upwards and to the side to make contact with the external circle, it seems to be working fine for now but I don't think it will last more than a couple of months.

    Method really worked for me! Definitely need those spludger tools if you attempt this. When you pull out the ribbons after removing the battery be careful and just tug the actual plastic ribbon and not the white plastic on the board. I managed to wedge the white plastic bit off of the circuit board thinking the connection was similar to the one directly to the right hand side of the battery. Thankfully these didn't warp and I could easily attach them back - the first ribbon went by a little quickly in the tutorial so I didn't catch that detail right away. Great tutorial!
