Dave, one day you should record a whole album of all these funny songs you come up with while demoing guitars and amps, I reckon it would sell really well especially if it has your special brand of humour on it.
nice! cool seeing you demo one of my FAVORITE practice amps... the sound quality and volume u can get from this 7w amp is amazing, seriously if anyone needs something like this, u will not be disappointed with the Boss mini :)
Same company, the Roland Micro Cube is amazing because it does so few things… You just find a decent sound or two, and you play on it. Probably an amazing songwriting tool, because you aren’t getting lost in playing with sounds, you’re just finding parts that work. And it’s so light and small to carry around.
@@j_freed ahh nice, I remember trying a roland cube years ago and loving it, I only realized recently that boss and them are basically the same company lol... and yeah, the lightness of the amp is unreal haha
Go Dave😂I’m still trying to get a decent sound out of my Vox valvtronix which has a tiny valve in it. Damn that my mate got all kind of cool sounds out of it. Guess I just have to keep on experimenting.
I have one of these in the bedroom for when I want to play without going into my studio. I think its great, although mine did not come with a power supply. I'm running on the second set of bats.
When I was a youngen, we had an ol' worn out broom and some fishin line... Had to go to the neighbors up hill in the snow both ways to borrow the hammer to rock it... Cheers!
I've got a Katana amp, but mine is the KTN-100 Mk II combo amp, I also bought the optional GA-FC foot controller pedal and amp cover, wonderful little amp for a solid-state digital modelling amp, great sounding too, and best of all it weighs less than my Marshall MA100C amp, that means I don't suffer from bad-back syndrome when lugging it up and down two flights of stairs.
I own one of these Mighty Boss Katana Mini I have one those Vintage guitars brands from the UK with 3 P90's when I hit the brown sound watch out, so I turn down the gain, I have the mids at 12 oclock to me the best practice out there nothing fancy no bells no whistles straight up little beast with the other Vintage brand Les Paul Type with Alnico 5 Buckers sounds amazing on this little monster nice guitar Dave
Hi Dave. The Brown sound was what Eddy Van Halen called how he set up his Marshall amps. He used a Variac power transformer to lower the voltage going into the amp. He found one summer while practicing, the lower level dropped in Southern California because of a "Brown Out", when the power drops down, it is known to blow the circuit breakers for the A/C units.....some say they do this to lower the demand, other say it because of the high demand. Anyways, he felt it made for a better tone, and was his secret tone weapon as it were.
I own a Boss Katana 100/50/5 watt head that is run through a Marshall 4/12 cabinet that I'm in the process of selling. The amp kicks some serious ass. You can turn it down to 5 watts and use just the head as a practice amp. It has a built in speaker. Great piece of gear. I'm only selling the rig because I got too much gear.
My own funny story. Sometime around 1973 I went to a large music store in NYC. I think it was Manny’s. I asked the salesman if he had a twin, he answered, “no, I’m an only child”. I did leave with a Fender Twin. A short time later I blew a speaker. I called and asked if I could return the speaker and was told they needed the amp to determine why it blew. I told them I knew why, because I was playing with everything on TEN!
Your southern blues tone was actually quite good for out of the box lol downside to all the tiny little amps is the speaker and all I'd do as a manufacturer is add a speaker out so if you wanted you could plug it into a 1x12 cab! I had a jam jar amp ( it's actually in a jar so look them up ) and it runs on a 12v battery but has a line out that can run a 4x12 cab! Incredible little thing that I sold to a friend who was a busker and he used it for a few years running a 2x10 cab. He said it was great cos it fit in his guitar bag so all he had to carry was the bag and his cab!
gotta' a gooched guitar gotta' a gooched bass Now I play the blues, until my hands get sick Coz I dont know my gear I dont wanna know my gear I just wanna buy more junk Till it ends into Dave's house and his fun world of stuff
The Mini is excellent! To get a faux reverb turn the time all the way down and level up to taste. For a slap back echo put the time to 8:00-9:00 and the level to about 2:00. Rock on!
glad someone else loves them as much as I do lol on paper it sounds like it might not be a very good amp (it's so light and only 7w) but once you actually try one, they are of course quite impressive :)
A friend gave a Kay acoustic that had sat around unstrung for probably 40yrs. For sure over the 25yrs I've known him. I refretted the very slim neck and shaved a ton off the bridge and saddle. My daughter plays the heck out of it. But I can't play it, she uses weird tunings.
Thanxz for the demo! I’ve been contemplating a “practice amp” for a long time, this helps. For the money I like the positive grid spark better than the Katana mini. 7 watts verses 40 watts, no brainer plus the software that comes with the Spark is great! You should get a metal for what you do Dave! This really helps! ❤️🎸🌨😊Colorado. Thanxz
I really don't know my Boss Katana Mini at all but it is a handy portable practice amp. Playing with the levels on the delay controls enables some good delay/reverb sounds - Oh sh*t I know a bit about it after all! As you heard, the high gain settings do not suit single coil pickups - you must never ever know your gear!
it really is an awesome little amp... 1 its super light (the batteries probably take up half the weight lol) 2 it is louder than you'd expect with only 7w, and at full vol, keeps its clarity, unlike some practice amps... if you're in the market for something like this, I highly recommend checking it out :)
"EEEEEEEE" ! "GAAAAAD" ! The dreaded transistor radio syndrome ! That'll Gooch yuh into the gutter real quick ! Anyways, Looks like a ton o' fun Dave ! Thanks !
Wow good vid Dave! You want to meet up at the corner? We could blast some blue Christmas songs with your new power box and make some coin to help pay that rig off! LOL! Do luv that guitar though.....
i didn't know this even existed! oh man, I gotta check one of these out, my standard Boss Katana is one of my favorite amps ever, so I'm sure I would like the new one... that sounds like a great deal btw, congrats!
I was wondering when you'd spring for one of these addicting little amps... Funny how much time the toys get used in place of the bigger gear. Someone has a BOOGIE MK V and picks up a novelty amp for fun and they proceed to play the hell out of the one that cost less than one 300th the price!
I liked the blackstar fly 3 over the katana - less controls, and still really loud for a practice amp. The clean channel gets just the right amount of dirt when you crank the gain. You can also buy the extension cab to make yourself a micro stack. I bought a katana 50w amp not too long ago. It's nice, but I'll never use the tone modeling software - I like what it does out of the box. I really only use it to power my Lil Smokey amp through the preamp jack on the back. Gives a great sound and I can dial in gain, volume, and tone using just the guitar.
That guitar is not meant for that amp. It's an ELECTRIC guitar amp...not electric/acoustic. There IS a difference. You "know your gear" enough to know that. I've played for 38 years; and I know that. I don't need anyone to tell me that anymore. When I was 15 in 1982; I didn't know better.....I thought an amp was an amp. I was wrong. Very wrong. I eventually (long before my 20's) realized that EACH AMP has a certain purpose, and I learned to use the right 'gear'. If you don't "know your gear"---you're welcome...I just tought you a lesson that took me years to figure out. You're welcome my brother.

You're actually getting quite a respectable Blues tone with that amp and that guitar, cool.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to an educator.
The "Brown Sound" was an invention of EVH. They're trying to recreate his tone with that setting.
10 years and a still miss the goofs next door episode !!
HAHA! I've always kinda wondered how desirable a "brown tone" is, too. But it's something to be strived for I guess.
Managed to get some nice swampy blues tone out of that thing when the gain was down a bit. Sounding good, Dave. ✌
That's some rockin shit Dave! Damn you even sing pretty well too! More of this type shit mate!

hahaha love it. Phil (from the know your gear channel) is a real mensch, I reckon he'd have a chuckle
Absolutely
I'll be honest, I didn't know 'mensch' was a word lol thanks for expanding my vocabulary!

The Browntown blues!

That will be number one! I’ll buy it
You “can” get good sounds out of the katana ( the air is nicer ) , but a lot of quirky fiddling required.
Simple amps are the best, maybe a spring reverb, and a dirty channel. The more crap the amp can do the less I like it. Pedals what pedals.
Couldn't agree more!
I think you just sold this amp to dozens of guitar players! BOSS better send you a cheque!
fun stuff indeed!
