      I did the same thing. The right side came right off. But the left side would not budge. I put a pole to allen wrench to see if it would budge and I stripped it. I guess the one on the left is welded into it. Had no idea there was a screw on the bottom. I hope I didn’t screw anything up either.

      @@rogerranalli8253do you mean that you loosened the stem bolt so much that the nut on the internal end fell off? In that case just pull the stem out and reach up from the bottom of the stem with some rod to push the nut up through, then reattach. The wheel will need to be removed to do this.

      Hello, that's a quill stem, but if you're buying a replacement bolt we recommend taking it to your local bike shop. All bolts fit differently into different quill stems (they're all manufactured in different places) and we want to make sure you pick up the right one so it's safe!

    I’m enjoying the bike so far ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

    What is the length of an adjustable stem in mm

    • @rowanbelt3612
      @rowanbelt3612 Рік тому +1

      Depends on the stem. It is important to remember not to raise it high enough that the maximum height line would be visible.

    This video gives incomplete and incorrect information that can result in an unsafe bike.
    Firstly, the quill stem fastening bolt going vertically into the fork needs to be tighter than just 'leaves a mark on your palm'. Done as loose as shown in the video the stem will work its way loose and your bars will turn independently of the front wheel. You need to tighten it firmly.
    A way to gauge if it's tight enough is to face the bike from the front, hold the wheel between your knees and try to turn the bars from side to side. It should require quite a hard twisting effort to move the bars independently of the wheel (I'm talking about actual movement, not just flex). Done this tight you won't have any danger of things coming loose in normal operation but in the event of a crash your bars/wheel will be able to turn out of alignment with less chance of damage.
    Secondly, to adjust the angle of the stem, both the wedge bolt underneath and the side pivot bolt that he said not to touch need to be loosened. The stem should not move if the side pinch bolt is tight, even if the wedge bolt underneath has been loosened.
    The correct procedure is as follows -
    1: loosen the side pivot pinch bolt from the 5mm hex on right hand side (drive side) of the bike. The left hand side which also has a 5mm hex fitting is normally keyed/fixed and does not rotate).
    2: loosen the under stem wedge bolt and adjust the stem angle.
    3: re-tighten the under stem wedge bolt (firmly)
    4: firmly re-tighten the side pivot pinch bolt.
    The re-tightening of the bolts needs to be done in this order. Both of these bolts need to be tight to be safe and to avoid wear to the pivot joint, so check them when you're done adjusting.
    If your stem doesn't have a wedge bolt underneath then it's likely that your side pivot pinch bolt has heavily serrated washers and holds the angle by this method, in which case back the side bolt of on the right hand side, make your adjustment and re-tighten.
