Living in Australia with wildfires every Summer, there is no such thing as overreacting when it comes to evacuating. Fires are completely unpredictable. You did the right thing.
Your plan on evacuating is a great thing as being prepared like that and at a good vantage point to move quickly is commendable. I am a volunteer firefighter where I live and have seen quite a few bushfires in this area that has devastated properties and taken lives so your plan works well!! One thing though to save you a little more is wear long sleeve cotton tops, jeans and heavy boots and a cap. That way you will not get burnt by flying embers. Have your chain saw with you and a pair of heavy duty leather gloves in the vehicle in case of you need to move a tree or branch off the road. Stay safe Dan & Laura :)
Laura you have such a special heart. I really just wish I could give you a hug. Dan is a terrific protector. As long as you’re together you can get through anything.
Just admire you and Dan so much. What a tough path you’ve chosen to follow. But you persevere through all the trials in front of you. Laura you are beautiful girl and have a very sweet partner in Dan. I wish you all of life’s blessings and pray for all good things ahead for you lovely folks 👵🐶🥰🇨🇦
Howdy Laura and Dan. Fires are always scary because fires depend on fuel. The more there is to burn the more it grows. But then winds become a factor. Never know when the wind direction will change. Glad you are ok and hopefully nobody was injured. Ok, back to your grouting. You know what you could have done better….nothing. You two did an amazing job for being so new at this. Looks terrific. Great job you two. Your floor is going to look amazing. Be safe out there and blessings to you both. 🙂
Glad you are all safe, good idea like we did on our family farm was to plough a 10 meter width around the perimeter of the farm, and always up keep this every 4 months. You are also very safe on your property as you have kept your grass very short. Worst case is when your property has a pine or eucalyptus trees on your land or your neighbours property, which I did not see from your camera. Anyway, another fire started by lightning strike.
Having grown up in California with wild fires, I know you were wise to prepare to evacuate. A wild fire conditions, direction and speed can change in just minutes. Keep braving on sojourners

Just always take wind into account, it makes fires rage either up or downhill. Maybe get some fireswats or however you call them in english, the metal fan shaped things on a broomstick. To combat a starting fire in grass Happy you are ok!

@@plainsimple442 sounds like east coast fires. Seems smoke from those fires has even hit Europe. We are close to the Pacific and just as bad here too! Terrible summer 😢
You're right Dan. When i first went to work in Portugal (Fundao) it was such a hot summer I could barely move, but after about three weeks it'd cooled down so much I could go out running in the hills and that great countryside no problem. Then like you I realised I'd just acclimatised to it. Great barbie area btw. Keeping the land clean is important but more importantly make sure when Laura has had a few burgers, beans and beers she doesn't try to light her farts... I know Geordie lasses. Always showing off for the firemen 😂
Your patio is looking amazing, I must admit I was a bit worried about you both, having to witness the smoke from a wild fire & I'm so glad it was kept under control & didn't reach your land, take care both of you, much love ❤❤🌟🌟🤩🤩
Good work stating on the stones I think you did right thing moving away from the property incase you needed to do a quick evacuation glade your safe friends see you on the next video stay safe
Looking good guys, there is always room for improvement but that is the fun part, you never stop learning when you make it yourself. Also it's a good thing to never underestimate a wildfire, they can really surprise you, so to be ready and stay alert is never a bad thing.
Laura and Dan, you're always so lovely together, smiling, laughing and working. You did a very good pointing between the stones and the effect is just perfect. Little by little your work will pay off. Don't ever give up ❤❤
Blimey, that was mad!!! One minute rain and then fire (pity it wasn’t the other way around). I guess that’s why it is imperative not to have trees butting up against any buildings. You did well to keep filming and because of that it brought it home to we the viewers how disturbing being in the pathway must have been for you both. Thank God you were both safe and had the common sense to immediately go into emergency mode whilst still filming - a pair of troupers for sure. Hopefully next week’s episode won’t be so scary. 👍🏻❤️🌟

Thanks for sharing tips its hard to know whats best as half say to dry ha half say too wet. The patio has come out great so what i have done has worked :)
Glad youre safe! And hope the bombeiros know where you live, because a barn on a rustic plot of land won't be priority for them when it comes to make choices for saving lifes...
Chin up guys, good practice should there be another fire. Keep your land clear to protect yourselves and always be sensible and cautious. The outdoor kitchen is looking wonderful
You can also make a dry mix and use a broom to sweep it in between the stones and give it a good wetting after. Will save you a lot of time and energy. Glad you are safe 😊
So this was a close call for you but good for you and the surrounding area it apparently been not to bad, we went through this in Canada the last few year in our surrounding area on a very big scale thousands of square kilometres burned and on evacuation alert, my advice as long you have time left before you have to run, put your important belongings to the safest place on the property if there is one, next take lawnmower and weed wacker what ever you have and cut on your property line mostly where the fire is coming from all your Gras dead and dry brush some dead trees not worth of saving, clean it up and if you have enough water to wet everything down, that’s all you can do before you have to run, and always keep you place in that order that it is more save, good luck you guys, love you and what you do a lot, you are such a cool couple
Hey Roland sorry to hear that and thanks for sharing tips. The recent forrest fires in Canada smoke actually made it all the way over hear which was wild and blocked the sun ❤❤
Great success on patio and staying alive . We get huge forest fires in Canada many of which are deliberatly started. We have a loopy dictator. Having a escape plan is better than being caught with your pants down....J'taime
Fires sure are frightening... coming from Australia where wildfires that can destroy thousands of acres its something that needs to be respected for sure. So happy that it was bought under control before people or property were hurt. As always the jobs you do are always brilliant to watch although I did miss Dan's mortar mix dance 😂 Hope this next week is a bit more settled 😊
Glad you are safe and your neighbours are too. Never second guess your safety, things etc can be replaced but you guys are irreplaceable, take care, Laura ❤❤
Thank God you and the townspeople are ok. Firefighters deserve all the respect they can get. Putting their lives on the line to help save other people is so awesome and appreciated. Hopefully no more fires in your area this year.
guys you should just make up dry mixes and brush it all in then use the watering can and sprinkle it all over dont let it drop heavy on the sand as it will wash it out sprinkle the water gently .do it once or twice this way it penetrates right through it to the bottom and you should not even need to use the trowels on it at all...hope this helps you out some
Great job so far both. I used to lay patios for a living and with big spaces between big rocks like you have that what you’re doing is as good away as any but as you get towards the smaller stones with smaller gaps I’d mix your sand cement dry and with your shovel pour dry mix between then brush lightly to get some of the mix of the tops of the stones them either with a fine rose on your watering can or a fine mist on your hosepipe gently spray the dry mix and tops of the rocks this will clean the rocks and damper the dry mix so it will set. But that’s my way you do it your own way because your you. Glad that fire wasn’t any closer to you and importantly that no one was hurt. But what a great job the firemen did that’s the third wild fire this last week I’ve heard of and fortunately all were put out quickly and without injury. ❤ Stay safe both of you. X
You both did the right thing better to be safe than sorry it helps you learn what to do when fire breaks out your stone work is looking nice looking forward to seeing the kitchen going in take care
You were very smart to take the fire seriously. You guys are young and seem to have so much respect for your land. You work hard to make yourselves a life there so to me you were not over reacting.
Have you thought about getting yourselfs a mixing spot instead of using the wheel barrow you’ll find it so much easier and put a bigger mix on if you want there cheap too . Folk get them for sand pits for the bairns usually under 20 in the UK , you will definitely not regret it hang it up on a wall after takes no room up
The patio is looking so nice, but it looked like back breaking work! My goodness that fire was really close to you, no wonder you were scared., It's good that you thought about an evacuation strategy. It's a bit of a reality check when it gets so close to you, thank goodness for technology, and you being able to monitor the fires by using your phone app. Stay safe both, best wishes. 💗💗
Glad that you were okay and as you stated, I also hope that nobody was harmed and there wasn't too much damage to property. Frankie Off Grid showed something very similar a few weeks ago, a thunderstorm followed by a large fire.
Glad you guys are safe it is a scary situation hope no one was injured. Love what your doing with the floor on the outdoor kitchen. It’s hot all over seems like this year we are having temps well into the triple digits you guys be careful have a great week see you soon.
WOW !! 👌 That outdoor area is going to be fire !! Literally! You guys have done a fantastic job so far !! Thank you for sharing with us ! Any chance of a "Fire Line " ? You could see if you're neighbors have a tractor ,then plow a wide swoth around the property to protect it ! Eucalyptus trees are HIGHLY flammable ! Just some ideas ,wouldn't want to see you loose it all due to wildfires.
You guys did the right thing by getting closer to the road. You can’t predict where the wind might blow the fire. Well done guys. I’m so proud of you. Great job with the stone floor. Love and be safe!😘🤗🌼🇻🇪
Hello you two, Great to see you're tackling more complex jobs. All about the learning. I know this vid is 11 days old, but just a few tips for any Future pointing. Always, make sure all rocks are level,(piece of string would help with that) & mortar is level with rocks. Don't skimp on mortar. If the finish is a bit dishevelled don't worry. You can always sand it smooth for aesthetic reasons. Keep up the good work, & Never stop trying to Achieve any goals. Rhonda England UK.👉❤️👈
Hey guys, we missed you already😁To fill the spaces between the stones it is better to make the mortar more liquid and pour it into the spaces. Not so liquid that it spreads everywhere. As for fires! Everything normal this year around the area. That was the "BBQ". 😂😂😂Raining? Where? My mother-in-law lives there and she didn't tell us nothing about the rain. 🤔Stay strong, 💪and don't forget...barn! 🙏🙏
I'm glad no one was hurt n I'm even more glad u took those precautions as iv seen some wild fires on yt and they can spread stupid fast so I wudnt worry about overeating, you done the right thing there 👍💪
Nice work on the kitchen patio. Glad you and your neighbors were safe from the wildfires! Such fires can spread fast and unpredictably and are stressful, from someone from California. Good work by the fire fighters!
The Soot and ash that blows in is good for the land though. Sometimes its hard to see the positive side of things. the places that burn come back so green and lush.
You did the right thing. We had a wild fire near our urbanisation when we lived in Spain. Sparks landing on our roof but we were not told to evacuate as they had it under control by the evening. Very scary to watch.
We have lived through bushfire here in australia. the best advice is leave early. Leaving your departure too late can be fatal. glad your ok. for future reference. Making a large perimeter fire break is the best preparedness you can do. have a bug out emergency kit to grab and go. cheers cheryl.
Nice work, with stones. joints with a lime based mortar is better with stones. Lime stick to stones and is more flexible. For next time ;) If you keep bushes cleared, low grass and no trees touching the house, you should be ok with fire. It's the way we do it in southern France.
A dry sand and cement mix swept in then hosed down on the mist setting will be easier next time😊
yea we agree but we learn and move on 💗
@theoriginhomestead very true for most of us. easier the 2nd time.
Don’t ever think you’ve over reacted. You did exactly what you needed to do. You had a plan and both of you stayed on the same page. You did good!!!

Thank God you and the townspeople are ok. Firefighters deserve all the respect they can get. Putting their lives on the line to help save other people is so awesome and appreciated. Hopefully no more fires in your area this year.
❤✨
Good to hear no one’s hurt, well done to the fire fighters , 👍Graham
Thanks Graham ❤
So glad you are both safe now and nobody was hurt take care sending love and prayers 🙏🤗🌞
Us too Deb sending you love too ❤
guys you should just make up dry mixes and brush it all in then use the watering can and sprinkle it all over dont let it drop heavy on the sand as it will wash it out sprinkle the water gently .do it once or twice this way it penetrates right through it to the bottom and you should not even need to use the trowels on it at all...hope this helps you out some
Thanks for sharing and support ❤❤❤
Important to keep the vegetation cut down around your buildings and equipment. Also be prepared to fight what small fires that you can. Cheers, Rick
Thanks for sharing Rick ❤❤
Thanks!
Thanks for your support Carrie really means a lot sending you love 💗💗
Well done you two , you did the right thing being prepared……
❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
You both did the right thing better to be safe than sorry it helps you learn what to do when fire breaks out your stone work is looking nice looking forward to seeing the kitchen going in take care
Thanks Patrica and us too we cannot wait to show ❤ you too
You were very smart to take the fire seriously. You guys are young and seem to have so much respect for your land. You work hard to make yourselves a life there so to me you were not over reacting.
Thanks Donna really means a lot ❤
Have you thought about getting yourselfs a mixing spot instead of using the wheel barrow you’ll find it so much easier and put a bigger mix on if you want there cheap too . Folk get them for sand pits for the bairns usually under 20 in the UK , you will definitely not regret it hang it up on a wall after takes no room up
Thanks for the tip something we will consider for future great tip :)
Thank goodness they got the fires out. Wildfires are seriously dangerous.
They really are Michelle surprised us to be honest 💗
That is so frightening for you. So glad it was got under control and you are both safe xx
us too thanks Jenny 💗
Hi, If you use a heavy wet brush or broom on the painting after before it drys you'll get a much better finish. 👍
Thanks for the tip ❤
The patio is looking so nice, but it looked like back breaking work! My goodness that fire was really close to you, no wonder you were scared., It's good that you thought about an evacuation strategy. It's a bit of a reality check when it gets so close to you, thank goodness for technology, and you being able to monitor the fires by using your phone app. Stay safe both, best wishes. 💗💗
❤❤
After pointing spread sand over and brush it even with the top of ur stone and it will be easy on the feet 😊
Thank for sharing ❤
Laura I do not think you were over reacting and it is always good to have a plan of evacuation. Stay safe and I am glad all is under control.
Thanks for sharing and support ❤❤❤
Glad that you were okay and as you stated, I also hope that nobody was harmed and there wasn't too much damage to property. Frankie Off Grid showed something very similar a few weeks ago, a thunderstorm followed by a large fire.
Thanks us too 💗💗
Oh goodness, that definitely would’ve been scary! A little too close for comfort. I’m so glad everyone is safe and well. Take care Laura and Dan!
Yes it was and thanks for sending love ❤
Slow n safe mahes a good job,yiz are doing great and will get there.
💗
It’s serious better safe than sorry, Health & Safety must always be observed. You did well, it must have been a shock.
100 percent ❤
Glad you guys are safe it is a scary situation hope no one was injured. Love what your doing with the floor on the outdoor kitchen. It’s hot all over seems like this year we are having temps well into the triple digits you guys be careful have a great week see you soon.
Thanks Billie and yes very hot out hear now 💗
Should have made a sand and cement dry mix and just swept it in,, then a good watering to set,, would have saved the sore backs
we agree we learn and move on 💗
Thats scary😢 thanks god you are safe
❤ ❤
Better safe than sorry, hope alls well,be safe.
Thanks James 💗
loose gravel in the patio cracks followed by sand and cement on top of gravel saves graft and wages.
Thanks for tip ben 💗
@@theoriginhomestead hope its not to hot its pissing down in the toon last few days
Glad you all are safe and took the precautions to get to safety.
Thanks Dawn ❤
Looking good guys, making memories, that's the main thing 🤙👍
Thanks Jay ❤❤
Thanks for the kind words and sharing all the ideas ❤❤
Be safe🙏
Thanks Malcom ❤
You guys did the right thing by getting closer to the road. You can’t predict where the wind might blow the fire. Well done guys. I’m so proud of you. Great job with the stone floor. Love and be safe!😘🤗🌼🇻🇪
❤❤
Yous 2 just stay safe and glad yous were prepared to leave . Glad it s all under control now .take care xx ps love the patio ❤
Thank you Ruth! Will do ❤
Hello you two,
Great to see you're tackling more complex jobs.

Thanks for sharing Rhonda x
Hey Laura and Dan.. Glad you are okay. It's always better to be prepared than to be caught off guard...
100 percent thanks for sending love
Hey guys, we missed you already😁To fill the spaces between the stones it is better to make the mortar more liquid and pour it into the spaces. Not so liquid that it spreads everywhere. As for fires! Everything normal this year around the area. That was the "BBQ". 😂😂😂Raining? Where? My mother-in-law lives there and she didn't tell us nothing about the rain. 🤔Stay strong, 💪and don't forget...barn! 🙏🙏
Thanks for the tips! always good to hear them. We have nearly done it now and the wetter mix defo helped 💗💗
I'm glad no one was hurt n I'm even more glad u took those precautions as iv seen some wild fires on yt and they can spread stupid fast so I wudnt worry about overeating, you done the right thing there 👍💪
Thanks Keith ❤ ❤
@@theoriginhomestead love you guys stay safe 💚
I think that with the hoe(enchada) will be easier to mix the mortar
Agreed thanks for the tip💗
Glad you guys are safe Being on the land a survival kit needs to be on hand at all times. Well done in being ready to evacuate ❤
Thanks Ruth and agree ❤ ❤
Always better to err on the side of caution.... glad to hear noone hurt and you guys are safe.... and dont forget...dont spare the mortar :)
us to and ha yes no motar gets left behind :)
Well done guys. Stay safe and you are right to stay vigilant
❤ ❤
Ai bem que você estava bem longe do encendio boa sorte pra vocês dois.
❤
Nice work on the kitchen patio. Glad you and your neighbors were safe from the wildfires! Such fires can spread fast and unpredictably and are stressful, from someone from California. Good work by the fire fighters!
Thanks and glad you like and yes us too they really can. From there you will know about it for sure x
The Soot and ash that blows in is good for the land though. Sometimes its hard to see the positive side of things. the places that burn come back so green and lush.
Good way of looking at it 😍
So pleased everyone was save you both did the right thing safety first .
Yes Heather us too ❤❤
You did the right thing. We had a wild fire near our urbanisation when we lived in Spain. Sparks landing on our roof but we were not told to evacuate as they had it under control by the evening. Very scary to watch.
Thanks Jean we thought so too xx
Omg 😱 that fire looked dangerous and very near your land... keep safe.
Thanks Celia ❤
We have lived through bushfire here in australia. the best advice is leave early. Leaving your departure too late can be fatal. glad your ok. for future reference. Making a large perimeter fire break is the best preparedness you can do. have a bug out emergency kit to grab and go. cheers cheryl.
Thanks for sharing xx
Nice work, with stones. joints with a lime based mortar is better with stones. Lime stick to stones and is more flexible. For next time ;) If you keep bushes cleared, low grass and no trees touching the house, you should be ok with fire. It's the way we do it in southern France.
Thanks for the tips! Lime is very expensive out hear you can only buy in bulk and starts at around 600 :)
@@theoriginhomestead oups, yes that is quite expensive indeed
