- Check out my Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Doopliss Boss Fight guide for the Nintendo Switch remake.
Shadow Mario, or Doopliss as he's really called, isn't that tough on his own, but he's got support. He's managed to persuade the party that he is the real Mario, so they fight by his side. However, if you follow the tactics in the video then you should be able to beat him relatively easily.
See my Chapter 5 walkthrough guide at • Paper Mario The Thousa... once you've taking down Doopliss.

I always like attacking the partners because they make the fight longer doopliss has the same stats as his first fight so you can beat him in about 5 or 6 turns so i attack the partners to make it a bit longer.
And you can even use one of the special attacks to stun him, and then spam power jumps to kill him off. I killed him in 4 turns and then decided to reset and fight everyone
I can't bring myself to hurt Goombella!
The music though, bro! This deSERVES to be an absolute banger in the game!!!
The fight’s good on its own, but the music
I love the remake that Vivian just actually dipped out on Mario to realize her actions. She didnt do it in the OG version, nice details nintendo.
What are you on about? She does the same thing in the original too.
@@GabrylMDHe means before the battle in the original Vivian just stood there as the battle started even after she said she felt like an idiot. In the remake, she correctly vanishes before the battle starts which helps make things flow more naturally now.
@@michaelwhite8586 Yeah, that’s what I meant.
At first i was so confused what you meant but now i see after actually looking at footage of the game cube version. Yeah she just stands there before the match starts in the original. Everything after that though is same as original.
Personally, I think Doopliss is the best boss in the Paper Mario series
Agreed
Me too
Facts
Really, it's true.😊
Let's hope there isn't someone that disagrees and this comment section turns into a one year old thread of just arguments lmao. Besides doopliss I like the siren sisters with doopliss, both themes are good and both villains are sick
I remember playing this boss as a kid and being sad as Vivian left when she realized it was Mario only to come back and help us after all! That was the best!
His Mario sprite is somehow more unsettling in the remake
Yes!!! A mario that speaks and looks possessed is very frightening. The fact his partners can't tell that isn't the real Mario is crazy.
its the way his shoulders are hunched up, the pushed down hat, and the big round eyes
@@sirvincerd9346ye, I don't remember Mario talking or having those emotionless eyes
His partners point it out in the mayor's house@@sirvincerd9346
Beldam: “Vivian is so VERY late! Where has that scatterbrain been all this time?”
**Doopliss runs by**
I know the scene ends right here before transitioning to Peach’s side, but here’s a take on what would’ve happened afterwards:
Beldam: “Hey you freak in a sheet! Hold up just a moment!”
**Doopliss approaches Beldam and Marilyn**
Beldam: “Have you seen Vivian? And why are you in such a hurry?”
Doopliss: “Um… how to say this… Mario and Vivian spoiled my fun and has stolen my Crystal Star!”
Beldam: “Wait, WHAT!? VIVIAN IS HELPING MARIO!?”
Marilyn: “Guh!?”
Doopliss: “They also found out my real name, Doopliss, and threw me out of the steeple!”
Beldam: “ACK! TRAITOR!!!”
Me as Mario: Ah, sh*t I think they know by now.
This time, you need to equip the Peekaboo badge in order to see the imposter Mario’s HP as he counts as a new enemy and can’t tattle him to see his HP. Same goes for your other partners. You can’t tattle them so only Peekaboo will let you see their HP.
To me Doopliss was a personal fight. First changes almost the entire population of Twilight town to pigs and unfortunately guests included. Second steals our name and form. And finally, had the gall to taunt us until we figured out his name and put lower case "p" back in the keyboard.
When I fought him, remake version, I knew that we would lose Vivian for the first few turns because she realized that she was helping Mario, I used a life shroom due to goombella mutibonking me. After that I said it's on.
Power Lifted both Vivian and Mario and charged them both. Needless to say I overkilled. Didn't care Doopliss deserved every last one.
Jeez you were fully willing to mangle your own body huh?
The added flourish of the bell right before the fight just completes the remade experience.
10:54 (Purple Mario Has Turned Back In His Own Body! MARIO!)
I bet your mindset when you were about to choose Clock Out was “Kaboom? Yes Rico, kaboom.”
So do the partners still use their third skills even if you haven’t upgraded them yet?
No I'm pretty sure they only a set hand full of moves for the boss fight.
Goombella uses her first and third skill. Koops uses his first two skills. The other two only use their 1st skill. Yoshi can’t fully use his ground pound on you if you have Zap Tap equipped.
If I had to cast a voice for Doopliss, I’d give him Bill Cipher’s a la Gravity Falls. (Aka Alex Hirsch)
I've got some superstars I need to make into corpses!
based
Imo Tom Kenny fits him more, since his mumbling in this game sounds like his voice
i always thought about Kellen Goff, but Alex Hirsch would also be great
I was thinking about King from TOH, so I agree
Did anyone else only use single target attacks in this fight? I refused to attack any of the partners
If I ever get the game I’m gonna be doing that
I solo targeted all of the partners first before even touching doopliss
I did it, too
2:22 WHAT THE FU-?! *Doopliss and Goombella become immobilised*
You'd think Mario's companions would notice Mario talking as a strange thing.
9:40 Doopliss: Power- Bogus.
0:48 Does anyone know what happens if you select "No! Of course not!" here?
The same thing happens
What happens?
10:20 Mario: If you was from where I was from, you would be f***ing dead. WOO!
Hey there, Slick!
Remember me?
Of course you do!
This is your body.
@@superstarGTAG Now you're just an absentee
Cause I stole your identity!
Give it back? I disagree!
Cuz now I’m gettin’ stuff for free..
@@superstarGTAG Once I start my jubilee
You'll fade away, I guarantee!
Now your name belongs to me!
I’m sure you’ll get the hang of Super Guarding eventually.
❤❤❤
So theres something i didnt understand plotwise. Wouldnt the partners realized something was wronf if you used other crystal stars and map since thats supposed to be with the real mario? Or is this pothole?
Someone knows what his name is in the Dutch version of the game? I can't get it to work🤔
I find the dutch version clever, we have a similar fairy tale about a guy who’s name must be guessed for the story to have a good end. His name? Repelsteeltje. They had to shorten it for the game, though. Doopliss’ name in the dutch version is Repel
Acknowledging the fact Mario is autistic, I *as an autistic person myself* genuinely want to say that most autistic people know about identity theft. We’re literally scared to death about it happening to us.
Mario 1:0 Doo_liss
I just attack partners Frist(i don't want doopliss control them indeed)
Everyone does that
I Think dosbis for a little look not like mario!
What if you tell Vivian you're not Mario?
@@haigignatiusmanaligod176 good question!
Same thing happens
@@Yozhi2 I know but I meant dialogue
@@haigignatiusmanaligod176 same dialogue as well
My face: > .
Hello the 333rd Doopliss
@@fuseegelee i have alot of brothers
Woo hoo it's-a me
“Three Minus Two Shadows” is one of the worst lines I’ve ever seen. Why not just say “One of The Shadows”?
Its a pun
Koops is not clever
its because they're called the three shadows
Or better yet, say "one of The Shadow SIRENS."
Koops be saying some stuff that makes no sense.
Srptuotng inreifo😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 0:58
Man this new soundtrack is 🐕 💩 its not even funny
Use the GameCube badge
Don’t you think you might be overreacting a little?
Yeah, I'm not really a fan of it myself. Waaaay to much emphasis on violins and guitars, neither of which I'm pariculary a fan of.
Thank God for the Nostalgic Tunes badge!!
0:55 Vivian: I feel like an idiot. *Leaves* Mario: Damnit! I should’ve said no. No, that’s lying. *A few minutes into the fight* Vivian: Mario, I’m fighting by your side from now on. I’ve made my choice and am not turning back. Mario: Let’s a do this!
