The simple answer is that it's a way to send and receive payments. This video provides a broad overview of the details behind this.
For buyers, you can send payments while protecting your sensitive billing information. Credit card numbers, bank account details, and billing addresses are hidden in your PayPal wallet so that sellers only have minimal information necessary to complete your order.
For sellers there are a number of products available to process payments online, over the phone, at tradeshows, in the field, or even at your retail shop! Conversion rates and avg. order totals have been proven to increase when you add PayPal as a payment option for your products and services.

Do not trust PayPal as a seller! All it takes is someone saying they didn’t get there service or item and PayPal will charge you AND ad a fee without notifying you! This happend to me and I had PROOF that my service was provided. They said it didn’t matter because the buyer used a credit card. Completely honest with you brother…DO NOT SELL WITH PAYPAL!!! There are plenty of trustworthy companies like cash app where this dosent happen!

If somebody pays you with an e-check it could take some time to clear, yes. However, you would still see this payment in your PayPal account activity log with the status of pending and an estimated clear date.

Can you seperate your paypal balance from credit card balance. I want to start taking drawing commissions but I cant yet legally own a credit card, and I dont want to interfere with my parents card yet I want to earn money. Is there any way that would work?
If you are not yet 18 years old then you cannot open a PayPal account either. As for the balances, your card balance and PayPal are completely separate from each other.

You can use it just like a bank account, and keep as much money as you want in there. That said, I would not recommend that you hold much cash inside your PayPal account. Move it to your regular bank account on a regular basis. That way if any sort of a payment hold or issue with your account comes up, there won't be a bunch of cash in there that could get held up.
Same goes for any payment processor or only system you are using that holds your cash.

@@easyfoodchannelsa Not sure I understand your concern here..?? You can use PayPal to receive payments, and simply move that money to your bank as recommended. You can also use the PayPal account for making purchases, and use a linked card or the bank to fund the transaction. You don't have to carry a balance in PayPal to pay with it.

I have been trying to setup my new account for PayPal but all in vain with response 'the card am using is not allowed for this service' yet my bank tells me other clients are using similar cards with no issues.

Is it a debit card, a credit card, a gift card, or what kind of card exactly? When you say other clients are using "similar cards" it sounds like it's a unique type of card in some way..??
If it's Visa/MasterCard branded there should be no issue. Are you simply trying to add the card to your PayPal wallet, or is it asking you to enter a card when you are setting up a specific feature within PayPal? It says "not allowed for this service", so for example, are you specifically trying to sign up for PayPal Pro or something like that when it asks this? Or just general add credit card?
Angell EYE As am openning up my paypal account and I reach the point where I have to link my card, so i fill in the details of my Visa/debit card and submit, that's the response I get for all cards am trying to use.

It looks like Uganda is limited to sending funds only, so there are some restrictions with those accounts, but you should be able to add a credit card to use as a funding source for sending payments. One thing you can try to clearing your browser cache / cookies. Sometimes PayPal's site can get messed up that way, so clearing can resolve issues like this sometimes. If it keeps happening after you'll need to contact PayPal directly and see if they can help you figure out what's going on.

If you link a prepaid card to the account and some one pays you. Do the money they sent you go right to the card?
Well, it would go into your PayPal balance, and then you could transfer the money from PayPal to the card. PayPal recently added the "auto-sweep" functionality to the user interface, so you may be able to turn that on in your account and have it automatically transfer your PayPal balance to the card each day, for example. I haven't specifically tested if that feature will work with cards.
Quick question, I feel a bit dumb asking. If I link my debit card via PayPal, will PayPal take the money directly out my account that way instead of having to deposit money into the Wallet?
Yes, it will work that way. When you submit a payment using PayPal you will be able to select your funding source. That's where you would choose the linked card, and the funds would come from that card the same as if you used it directly.
What does it mean by billing address do they send a bill to that address or something
The billing address would be the address that your credit card has on file.

Yes, that will not be a problem. It would be recommended to add a card so that you can confirm your shipping address before making purchases, though.

If you send a payment to an email address that does not exist on PayPal, they will get an email from PayPal telling them they have money waiting, and they need to create an account to accept it. When they create the account, the money will drop in there for them.
If they don't create the account to claim the money, then after 30 days it would be sent back to you.

If you are referring to your PayPal debit card, then yeah, you would just need to check your PayPal balance.

No, standard use of a PayPal account for personal or business purposes carries no monthly fee. You will pay a fee when you receive a payment. If you ever add upgrade features like PayPal Pro or Advanced Fraud Management Filters, that sort of thing would include a monthly fee.

What exactly are you referring to? The use of PayPal itself does not have any monthly fee unless you add an upgrade like PayPal Pro, for example. In that case, I would suggest you use Braintree instead, which does not have any monthly fee.
If you're using PayPal to sign up for some 3rd party service, then this could end up being a subscription that you would be paying out from your PayPal account at the interval configured by that subscription.
Otherwise, there are no monthly fees for using PayPal. You would only pay a transaction fee when you receive a payment.

You would add the gift card to your account like a credit card, and then choose that card as the funding source when making a purchase with PayPal.

It's best to do both. Linking a bank will verify the account. Linking a credit card will confirm your shipping address.

It is free to make purchases, yes. If you sell things, though, and accept payment with PayPal, then you will pay the PayPal fee for processing that payment just like you would any other payment processor. There can also be additional fees when dealing with international payments, chargebacks, or add-on products like "PayPal Pro".

Depending on the bank, you may be able to link it using your online banking credentials. Otherwise, it will make two small deposits into your account. Then when you see those deposits show up, you verify the amounts with PayPal to complete the verification.
For the card, you just need to manually add the card. Make sure the billing address on the card is added as a shipping address in your PayPal account so that it will be a Confirmed address.

When you make a payment to somebody it could be pending due to e-check if you didn't have funds available in PayPal or CC balance. If that wasn't it, then it could be pending on their side until they prove delivery of the item. That would not be your problem, and they should follow the proper procedures to ship and get their funds released.

You can get a PayPal MasterCard (debit card) and use that just like you would a debit card with a bank, so it would use funds available in the PayPal account when you use it.

Do you see the transaction in your PayPal account activity log, or did you just get an email? Make sure you check out this other video to avoid scams: ua-cam.com/video/byXNib1YhZs/v-deo.html
If the transaction does indeed show up in your account, then you need to check the actual payment status. If the payment status is Pending, then it will show you why, which could be an e-check for example. The money will show up when the payment clears, just like a check would take a few days to clear.
If the payment status is Completed, but the funds are on hold, then it will likely be asking you for a tracking number. Ship the item in that case, and provide the tracking to the system. The funds will be released not long after the item is delivered.
Again, though, do NOT trust an email. Too many fakes from fraudsters. Make sure you see the transaction in your actual PayPal account before proceeding to ship any product.

I removed my card from an old PayPal account and try to put in a new account but it says already link to another account. How do I fix that please???
It's possible the system just needs a little more time to update so that the card is completely removed from the previous account. I would try again in a day or two and see if that helps. If not, you'll need to contact PayPal directly about that.

Okay so I found some guy selling a PS5, and some XBOX Series X. He wants $700 for the PS5 and we negotiated to bring the price down to $600. So then he tells me,” not sure if you’re comfortable with this but I’m not shipping thru OfferUp at the moment, they are not fdic secured and two of my payment were stolen in transit recently. Could we use PayPal or cashapp since they’re fdic certified and we both know we have insurance on our transaction.” (I copied and pasted his exact message) So then I agree to proceed with PayPal.. I haven’t sent him the $600 yet but I told him to not pack the PS5 up until he gets to the post office and I asked him to take a video in the post office of him doing so. Did I do okay?

This sort of claim is not worth much if you don't provide details of the situation that makes you feel this way. If you care to elaborate I can probably help you figure out what went wrong so that you can avoid it in the future with PayPal or any other payment processor.
Here is some details I tried to receive a payment, paypal csr's screwed up the transfer and couldn't fix it this almost cost me a 5000 job because I had to refund the money!!!! I have a small business, this almost destroyed me! Paypal is flawed and customer service does not care at all!!!!!!!!
what if PayPal gets hacked
The odds of this happening are very low, and they have withstood the test of time. They have many people trying to hack them every day, of course, and they've been unsuccessful.
The only successful "hacks", which is pretty much true for any system these days, comes primarily through social engineering. This is where people will reach out to your personally one way or another, and trick you into giving up the information they need to get into your account specifically.
In the unlikely case that PayPal's system was directly compromised, I would treat it like I would losing my physical wallet. Any credit/debit cards that I have added to my account would need to be canceled and replaced immediately. My PayPal login/password would need to be changed immediately.
That said, if you follow the procedures I lay out in my other video about how to protect your bank account, you won't have anything in your PayPal wallet that is vulnerable anyway. ua-cam.com/video/BfzpvvmWlSw/v-deo.html
Still, the same procedures could be taken to clean up any mess left behind from such a hack.

PayPal will sometimes hold funds from the seller until they provide evidence of delivery, but not always. That's up to them. It's not something you can specify. You are protected by Buyer Protection in general.

When you receive money it goes to your PayPal balance. If you have a PayPal debit card, that is what you use to spend cash directly out of your PayPal balance.

They are separate. You can keep cash in a PayPal account balance and spend it from there directly using PayPal payments online or using the PayPal debit card. Alternatively, you can transfer the PayPal balance to your bank account.

No, you can make purchases with cash in your PayPal balance or in your bank account if you don't want to use a credit card.
I just went to Paypal and they have really messed up the home page. paypal quick links are gone and you don't know how much money you have available in Paypal. I need to find a different way to accept money payments . Paypal is unusable the way it is .

The hyperlinks to read about privacy and other things are not working on the paypal website. When I tried to contact them to let them know, it just looped back to logging in - which I did not want to do before reading what I was agreeing to first.

You don't always have to add funds to yuor PayPal account from your bank but it will automatically let you select the linked credit cards to purchase the product.

You just need to link a bank account to your PayPal account (ua-cam.com/video/BfzpvvmWlSw/v-deo.html) and then you can withdraw cash from your PayPal balance to the bank.
Here was I thinking the main advantage was it operated as some type of Escrow Service, delaying transfer of payment funds to seller until buyer confirmed reciept and that goods matched order and described quality. Looks like I got that completely wrong, or that this video didn't cover it.
Well, that does come into play, but there are a lot of details around that which would be better discussed in separate videos. I've just added that to my video to do list.
There are times when PayPal will place a payment on hold and sort of treat it like an escrow service, where they would hold the funds until a number of checks were completed (ie. delivery, positive feedback, etc.) This does not always occur, though.
There are also API services provided by PayPal where developers can build something of an Escrow system, and delay payments to some parties involved in a transaction based on certain criteria being met.
At a basic level, though, PayPal is not an escrow service.
I wish somebody would make a comment about PayPal taking money away and not giving it back. On eBay you do a make offer for an item then PayPal gets hit even though the offer is not accepted then when the offer is never accepted the money is never returned. roughly about a month later the money never gets returned back and the entry disappears
How you you activate your account so you can withdraw your money?
You need to add a bank account and verify it. That should be enough. If it's asking you for some additional documentation then you just need to provide that in the resolution center. What exactly is happening when you try to withdrawal?

You can add it straight from the bank. However, you could run into problems without a card linked because that means you won't have a "confirmed address" on your account. This could potentially lead to sellers not having seller protection on payments from you, which could make them not want to fulfill your order. It's recommended to go ahead and get a debit/credit card linked even if you're not going to fund payments with it.

When you receive a payment it will remain in your PayPal account balance until you transfer it from there to your bank.

A scale website..?? If you know you made a bad purchase, file an "item not received" dispute right away. I'm not really clear on what you're saying here, though.

They're smart, they did everything follows the procedures. They sent me fake Tracking#, which show delivered just few hours.

I'm a little confused by your question. If you want to pay physical cash...not online...then you'd have to be at that physical location. If so...then just pay cash.
If paying for something with PayPal it would be online or maybe through your phone wallet (ie. Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, etc.) So then you could use "cash" funds like PayPal or bank balance.
If that doesn't help, please elaborate on your question a little bit and then I will provide better info.

Some places use PayPal Here, which would allow you to pay with PayPal at the point of sale. Alternatively, you can get a PayPal debit card, which is a MasterCard and can be used anywhere MC is accepted. This will use the cash in your PayPal balance the same as a bank debit card would work.

If you want them to send you a payment with PayPal you can just give them your email address that's associated with your account. You could also send them a specific money request if you want. Let's say you have $100 in your PayPal account balance. If you purchase something it will use that $100 towards the purchase as a first option. If you don't have enough cash to cover the purchase in the PayPal account, then you could then choose any linked bank/card you have for payment.

Yes, but there are additional fees for that. Other options would be to use a PayPal debit card, which uses the cash balance in your account the same as a bank debit card. You could also get a PayPal MasterCard, and you'd earn 2% cashback on everything you buy. Just make sure you only use it for things you would be purchasing anyway, and always pay off the balance in full each month! (That's the finance nerd in me talking to you in general.) You can transfer the PayPal funds to the bank and pay off the CC from there, of course.

You can use your PayPal wallet at stores with a POS system that works with your phone. You can also use PayPal through Google Pay. Another option would be to get a PayPal debit card, which would also pay 1% cash back, and works just like a bank debit card. Yet another option would be to use an actual PayPal MasterCard credit card, which pays 2% cash back. Then use your PayPal cash to pay the credit card bill.
You wouldn't "transfer PayPal money to your credit card." If you use a credit, you would then use your PayPal cash to pay the CC bill.

First, you have to be 18+ to have a PayPal account of your own. If you open one before then it will eventually get suspended. The only physical mail PayPal sends is marketing materials. Nothing specific to purchases or sales.

@@shadow-nt3id Eventually you will have to provide documentation to PayPal to prove your identity. At that point they will see the account was created before you were 18, and they will kill the account. I've seen this happen even years after the person turned 18, but since they created it prior to 18 it still got killed. You can usually get it resolved when that happens, but it's a pain.

Yes, you could add these to your PayPal wallet and choose them as a funding source during checkout with PayPal.

Depends on the card, but yeah, there is an option to withdraw cash from PayPal to a card if it's supported. I have seen some issues with that feature, though. I'd recommend you just send it to a bank account or spend it directly out of PayPal using a PayPal debit card.

If you have PayPal cash available in the account you should be able to use that as your funding source and it wouldn't need the card. However, without a card, you cannot confirm your shipping address, and some sellers have their account configured to block payments from unconfirmed accounts. That could be what is happening here. Yes, you just need to link your bank account to PayPal, and then you can transfer funds between the linked account and PayPal.

PayPal does not show up any credit reports I've seen, the same as standard bank accounts. Those aren't credit accounts. If you signed up for "PayPal Credit', though, that would be a credit account and would show up on your credit report. "PayPal Working Capital", which is the business version of lending, does not show up on your credit.
So yeah, if you want to improve your credit score you could use a PayPal Credit account to help do that, or what I would recommend in that case is the PayPal MasterCard, which offers 2% cashback on all purchases, paid directly into your PayPal account instantly when you claim it.
Of course, we can have entirely separate conversations about how you should utilize credit cards, but that's not what this video is about, and there are plenty of other channels that provide lots of detail on that I would recommend you check out.

I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to, but if it's a PayPal cash type of gift card, then I'm guessing you're going to need a PayPal account. If it's Visa/MasterCard branded then you should be able to use it anywhere those places are accepted just like any other card.
