Excellent video! I love canaries. I have 2 males that are housed separately. They sing back and forth to each other. They certainly are very messy but they are worth it.

Yes I agree. I love their songs but have be careful so that they fight each other during the breeding season.

    Aloha from Hawaii 🌺
I still haven’t worked with any canaries other than the green Singing Finches/yellow fronted canaries. Very feisty little birds.

Yes feisty is a good work for the green singing finch during breeding season.

Great video. I breed my canaries in the winter months. After the breeding season i separated the males from the females. I noticed that the males started fighting but the females were find together. It was getting worse so i had to separate the males. I only had two males at that time so i just put them in separate cages. My question is if you have say 5 or 6 males would they be okay say in a large cage? I don't have room to house multiple males in separate cages during the off seaon.

How are you able to breed canaries in the winter?

@thomasborg6341 I live in Rhode Island and and as long as I can remember every breeder that i know their breeding season for canaries start around December to late March. If you buy a bird from here, that's when they hatch. Maybe it's a Rhode Island thing but everyone that i know including a friend of mine that owns and pet shop breeds their canaries during the winter months, obviously indoors. That's when these birds were hatched, so we keep that cycle going.

If your cage is large enough you should be fine. I currently have 4 males housed together this summer and have kept all of my males together in my large aviaries. If the space is big enough for them to get away from each other they can co-exist. If the space is too small I would keep them separate.
