The way they spoke! No mumbling, no slang, and the background noises never drown the spoken word. Such a treat!
Some background noise is nat😮
the world of today is a whole mess but it is our own guilt if we shut down down our mouth
Sir Roger Moore was a real actor, with charm, humor, exceptional communication skills, good looks , keeping his audience interested through the entire movie. I wished we still had characters, just like him.
He was an excellent communicator. It's like it's extemporaneous. Even as an elderly man, in his interviews he speaks exactly how he delivers his lines.
Yep! Loved him as a kid! Still do!
I met him a few times down the pub ‘77 to ‘78 at The White Hart, Chalfont St.Peter, Bucks. He lived 5 miles away in Gerard’s Cross He was 50 then I was only 19
This episode filmed in 1963 when he was 36
He was exactly the same in real life 😅😅
Many thanks for publicating this fascinating movie. RIP Roger Moore. Greetings from Warsaw, Poland
Should be played repeatedly to young generations. These episodes are classics, just like Bach or Mozart in music
Yes, absolutely yes!!
Simon Templar, no other will do.
Nothing beats the TV Shows of the 69’s and 70’s.😊
Sir Roger Moore plays such a simultaneously human yet dangerous character as well as being extremely charming and handsome. I noticed that he had directed one of the episodes I watched. I can't recall which one, but I did notice how well done it was. I missed The Saint being only 10 or so, hence I am thoroughly pleased with being able to watch them now! Truly amazing locations, great casts and well written plots. Thanks a million for sharing these wonderful stories!
PS One can easily see why he was choosn as James Bond. First class actor.
What a wonderful story re the 16 year old getting caught sitting in the Volvo sports car and being caught by the owner. Just as Sir Roger would have done! A real gentleman.
I like the tandam of Maud Adams and mr.moore.tandam means tandem.thanks.
I never think of Roger as Bond, he will always be The Saint.
fly bobbie Or Ivanhoe , Brett Sinclair ...

Only for you because he will always be Bond to me
I will always remember him as the Maverick cousin Beau.
When I was taking trade school just after high school out in front of my welding class was parked one of those cool Volvo sports cars. The windows were rolled down, I was 16 years old so on impulse I got in and sat down. After a few minutes this guy is standing outside the drivers side and asked me how do you like it? I'm like this car is awesome! He says thank you I really enjoy it,so I and got out ,he smiled an told me to have a good day.1966
😃😎
What a cool memory
This is a very interesting comment. Thank you!
We wouldn't do that these days.🥺🥺🥺🥺
"In 1966,I was a little girl, residing in London England: Those were personally fun years for me. . .9-6-2023'
I love the way everyone else gets killed no problems but Simon..well..he dodges the killers every single time.
I can truly say that there have been few actors, men as handsome as Roger Moore.. what a chiseled face and blue eyes... I remember watching the Saint many moons ago....
I love watching Roger Moore in these episodes of The Saint!❤
Black and white has such clarity. Thank you.
Ahh childhood memories with my Dad we had a few TV shows we watched together and this was one of them
Miss you dad 😔 R.I.P.
I liked Roger Moore more as The Saint than as James Bond. It's all personal taste as some liked his humor as James Bond. The Saint was really well done with Roger Moore. Thanks for placing on UA-cam.
Back in the days when heroes used their minds as much as physical prowess to defeat their adversaries and they did it with wit, style and class! Tv was so good back then!
Pleasant Valley Picker CA I recommend Leslie Charteris’s books which the series is based on!
And the television music!!!
There were a fair few crap shows then actually.
Yes. And it brings back pleasant nostalgic memories
For a few, it’s still that way.
Brilliant acting and every word clear, not like TV now. I was too young to watch this, but loving watching on UA-cam.
Simon Templar , charming , dapper , sophisticated , intelligent .
And he could hit pretty hard!!!
He's very very handsome./ Él es muy guapo
And don't forget suavity.
I think it depends a bit on how old you are...to me, he clearly is JB but I was born in the early 80s
Qualities any of us would desire . . . cherish ! 😎
Roger Moore , had class , on and off the screen .
Nelson Vargas - It takes someone with class to replace Sean Connery. No one else was as good as those two.
No commas needed
What a celebrity! Charming, handsome and great personality! I love Roger Moore in Simon Templar and James Bond and he was in many other movies , he will be missed , RIP mr Moore.❤️❤️💋👍👍
Hello Diana, How are you doing?
YES!!!!
1:40 - "Seven was always my lucky number" - Great line #007
If you add the figures of his date of birth, you will find out that he is number 7.
My son’s birthday is on the 7th and he always says 7 is his lucky number. He is 9.
Prophetic too! Since he rendered it years before he actually got the part of "007" in the movies.
Nobody does it better than SIR ROGER he owns this!
Love his VOLVO P1800 too! Although Roger Moore could make a "YUGO" look like a sexy ride just by being behind the wheel in one. (PS: I'm pretty sure he NEVER did! LOL)
A classic of the yesteryear's !! Roger M was truly a treasure !!
Sir Roger one of my child hood heroes one of my adult examples of how to be a decent human being!
The word "hero" is often misused -- 'idol' is more apt. Same as people misuse the word 'love'.
I was recently at the Volvo museum in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Saint's white Volvo was on display there - kind of cool to see it in person.
Over the years the series lasted, there were actually three white Volvo P1800 coupes. Don't know how many survived, but someone in the US had one of them. I saw it a couple times at car-shows maybe 20 years ago.
I thought that Jay Leno owns the original Volvo from The Saint.
@@alexrowson5698 Jay Leno had the original car and its owner on his UA-cam channel a few years back. Jaguar declined to give them an E Type for the show so the went with the Volvo instead.
It’s amazing that The Cromwell Hotel is still in business and standing in Stevenage .
What is that Inn in or near Nottingham? I recall it was white stucco with black trim. Cited as the oldest continuous run Inn in England.
Aspen rebel: I believe you may be thinking of the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Inn, established 1189 (?) ish. I have been there. The front is half timbered and the back is carved into the face of the cliff.
@@kathleenclark5877 yeah, and front is all white except for black timber. I don't think I went in, just stopped in front when I was in Nottingham. But that was like 100 years ago.
I remember watching this series when I was a little kid...and I still like it!
Good old fashioned fight scenes: no cuts, no blood, no bruises. And no one’s ever out of breath, let alone losing their composure. And that Brylcreem sure was magic on the hair!
The Good old days 😀
I always think it's funny when its about 5 against one (the hero) and each bad guy waits his turn to have a go with the hero, who knocks them out one by one. They never think of swarming him all at once like what would REALLY happen....they patiently wait their turn....
A little dab'll do ya!!
@@l.5832 None of them ever want their hair messed up!
The Saint has been of my favorite shows since high school. I can never one episode that was not entertaining. 👍
I remember my mother used to watch this. I was too young then to watch it with her. It's so good to find out why she enjoyed this show. Thank you for posting.

I used to believe I was in love with Roger Moore. These are great. I wish I owned CD's of all of them
I belive they can be purchased from SHOUT FACTORY thru AMASON . I have used amason on occasion to buy hard to find sets .
The incidental music in this series by Edwin Astley was fantastic. The music from this episode is no exception. Great moody and suspenseful dissonance with jazzy moments.
My dad watched this, I didn't like it when I was young, now I love it
very good first episode of season 2. the same could be said for season 1 ep 1.
I agree about George Sanders. He was a wonderful actor in anything he was in.
Yes, he and his brother both! I get them mixed up sometimes! Similar but different too. Great character actors both of them.
A Surprisingly well written espionage plot! Highly recommend. Thank you. Over & out.
a driving license was accepted as I D, no photo. it could have been anyone's
Except the part where the criminal slips a silencer over the end of a revolver!
Silencers only work on pistols because of the gaps at each end of a revolver's rotating chamber allows sound & gas to escape!
Also, if the silencer isn't machined so it's screwed into the end of the gun's barrel, the bullet may not go cleanly through the silencer, which can not only distort the bullet but force the silencer off the barrel!
Yes I do miss the Saint . I use to look at the Saint all the time back in the days.
Sandra Koger
I liked it at first, but another interfering tv dick, who paid Simon a wage?.
When I was a teen the intro and outro music got me. That sort of spooky sexy Jazz music. The Avengers had a sort of Jazz soundtrack as well loved the bongo's
Intelligent, funny, clever story, great people with class. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!
bUT How has American film making gone so low with all the same rubish they're making these days?
He was on Corfu when he was playing in the film 'For your eyes only ' and people told me that he went to Nicholas Taverna in Agni , by the sea and sat there and had a drink. The owner of the Taverna said he was a lovely and very handsome young man. There are photos of Roger on the wall of the Taverna actually.
That was Italy?

As a little girl I fell in love with Roger Moore when my mother took me to see him in the movie The Miracle with actress Carol Baker. He was such a dashing Cavalry Officer. The best James Bond.
I worked in the tailors shop, REC-LIN, just 50 yards up the road, in front of Middle Row, in the 60s
ITC made lots of fantastic series, in my opinion this is one of the best.
Every Saturday night me and my dad. Loved the plots and the acting
Passing the truck on the right..."got clean away"... a miracle!
This episode's rich with Bond feel. Even the Volvo looks like an Aston Martin DB5.
You mean the aston looks like a gorgeous p1800s!
Driving that Volvo P1800. Ahead of its time with the style.
With the electric dash switch for overdrive. Imagine squeezing three surfers and gear for 1500 mile two-week surf trip. Flexibility is required.
WOW !! James Bond and beyond, and Aston Martin his faithful companion. Thanks for the upload. 👍👍
Well it's Simon Templar in the Saint.
Except that the Saint drove a Volvo not Aston Martin. It’s his signature car.
A Great Series watched it every Sunday with Mum & Dad
The helpful clerk at the hotel was played by Angus Lennie. He was the one who was shot climbing over the fence after one of the tunnels was discovered in "The Great Escape". In the movie his character and the one played by Steve McQueen were close friends who shared time together in the "cooler".
Thanks! I knew I recognized his face but couldn't place a film or TV show in which I saw him.
He also had a part in the old soap Crossroads as Shoey Mcfee.

Usual weak storylines, Simon was warmed off off by the police, not to get involved, he did, please see my comment as Jack Sugden, as its valid, regarding the bus stop shooting in relation to Simon’s visit to the police station.

Brilliant episode. Thanks for posting
Roger Moore was once asked why he played Bond far less seriously than Connery. He said the role itself was not all that serious. Bond supposedly was a spy, a secret agent, yet everywhere he went, everybody knew who he was.
If you've ever read the James Bond books, you'll come to realise that Ian Fleming created them as satirical spoofs of the Cold War spy-novel genre!
Remember watching a docu-drama on Ian Fleming's life in which they distinguished between what was known about him and the unsubstantiated stories he to told about his years in the war-office, along with supposedly working as a spy in Germany, and it was those stories which prompted his wife to encourage him to consider writing as a career. Thus the first James Bond book was written while on their honeymoon in the Caribbean!
Hello , my name is Bond , James Bond . 😂😂😂 gotta" love it .
Fantastic! Great plot, pacing, and wit. Thanks for sharing
Roger Moore was very good as Bond, but he was awesome as "The Saint"!
was there really that much difference?

@@artysanmobile Not really, The Saint was a smart detective, could handle the bad guys when he had to, but mostly he solved crimes and didn't get into very many fights.

The original stories in book form are even older - some dating back to the 1920s.... They were better. The TV series was highly sanitized. The story in the book was set in the USA during WW2. Setting it in Stevenage, of all places,, for the TV was rather naff, along with the location shots, even in 1962. Still like and watch them though....
Mr too I scrounge for more episodes.
A really good watch. Enjoyable.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT'S GREAT I HOPE YOU WILL DO ANOTHER AGAIN, ALTHOUGH ROGER MOORE IN THIS IS UNBEATABLE. TO THE BEST STYLE OF JAMES BOND

During the 1960s, ITC Entertainment established itself as a major producer of family-friendly action/adventure TV series("The Saint", "Secret Agent", "The Prisoner").
I love how he just pulled into a parking space with cars in lots on both sides of him, yet when he gets out of his car, there is no car on his right....Just get on out and into the building!

One of those goons looks an awful lot like Niles Crane. And the fact that he answers to a mysterious boss called Maris conjures up what TV Tropes would refer to as "Hilarious in Hindsight".
