The song "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Detresse" was written for the French-Kubek rock opera "Starmania" in 1976, music by Michel Berger(France), lyrics by Luke Plamandon (from Québec). «I've never stood with my feet on the ground. I wish I was a bird.. I feel bad in my body …» - sang by actor Daniel Balavoine (France) in 1978. After Balavoine 's death in 1986, few people managed to sing his masterpieces really well, conveying all the feelings and thoughts of the author. In September 2004, Grégory Lemarchal (France) sang this song. From that very first performance of Gregory at the Star Academy, the history of the Little Prince has been counted. Gregory was terminally ill and died in 2007. 40 years after the release of the famous "SOS d'un terrien en detresse", these lines again sound from the stage. All over the world it is recognized that the best performer of this song is Dimash. He made this song a worldwide hit. In his performance, she scored 600 million views on the Internet in one night. His performance is now being studied by vocalists all over the world. Kazakh singer at 26 years old - a real star in his country. In 2017, Dimash had already come to France for the show of Patrick Sebastien (France) Ann'es Bonheur and sang the song "S.O.S.". We can say that it turned out to be a relay of generations. There’s a lot to say about this song!
Dimash speaks of it as his ‘calling card’, as he shot to global fame with his performance of it on the 2017 Singer contest in China (although he had won other awards with it before that, too). It comes from a 1978 French-Canadian cyberpunk rock opera, Starmania, and is considered one of the 5 most difficult French songs to sing (btw, it’s a language he doesn’t speak!).
Dimash says he heard of it through Grégory Lemarchal - a French singer who tragically died very young, from cystic fibrosis - and he learned the lyrics phonetically through Grégory’s performance. In the musical, Johnny (the main character) sings this when his love, Cristal, is killed, so it’s full of angst and depression ..
It’s also a very emotional song for Dimash and when I was at his concert in London, lots of us were in tears watching him struggle to finish it; not long before, a good friend of his, Denis Ten (an Olympic medallist who had skated to Dimash’s version of SOS) had been killed in a robbery. It was heartrending ..

Dimash Qudaibergen was born on May 24, 1994, in Aktobe, Kazakhstan into musical royalty. Height: 1.91m; 6' 3'. Grandfather played professional dombra, grandmother was a teacher and sings.
His parents are Kanat Aitbayev and Svetlana Aitbayeva. Sveta studied classical singing, but she is not an opera singer. According to Kazakh tradition, he was raised by his grandparents (Mama and Papa) and for a long time he kept his parents as his brother ans sister in law. They all live together in one house.
Dimash said: “Open my heart, you will find music. If you open my brain you will find music. Music is my life."
He has been training in music since he was 5 years old, has a perfect pitch. He is university-educated with degrees in piano, classical/opera, contemporary music, pop, and jazz with a major in vocal. Dimash also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has completed his Master's with a concentration in Composition. He graduated with honors’. He has composed 12 of his own songs so far and is currently working on his doctorate. We have to call him soon Dr. Dimash Qudaibergen. 😃
Dimash did not fit the traditional image of a singer in Kazakhstan and was criticized. Even his voice teacher forbade him to sing in falsetto (Interview with his voice teacher - ua-cam.com/video/V7hkcKYAnhg/v-deo.html ) ... but he was not deterred, won many national and international competitions.
In 2016, Dimash turned down the offer of the National Opera in Astana because he wanted to go his own way ... He created his own genre: neoclassical combined with classical, folklore and other styles such as pop, rock, R&B and jazz. We laypeople say 'Popera'. 😃
Dimash is independent and has full artistic control over himself. He founded his own company named Dimash Ali.
In 2017, Dimash surprised everyone in China. His first album sold out in 37 seconds and triple platinum in under an hour.
He opened the eyes of his critical compatriots. Today Dimash is a 'cultural ambassador' for his country and a 'national treasure' (not an official title). He himself is a proud Kazakh and patriot.
Dimash plays at least 7 instruments, traditional dombra is a must in his family. He speaks Kazakh (mother tongue) and Russian without accent (second language in Kazakhstan), is learning English and Mandarin. He says dancing and Mandarin are difficult for him. So far, he sings in 13 languages, trains his voice for 3 hours every day... but Dimash said: "You don't need to know how hard I've worked, you just need to enjoy the results".
Experts consider Dimash to be a lyrical baritone with a typically long range. Some believe that he does not sing his high notes as a countertenor but as a natural soprano. He is the first singer to sing all 5 voices: bass, baritone, tenor, contralto, soprano.

Dimash's 'heavenly' vocal abilities, from bass to coloratura soprano, are not just limited to the tremendous range of over seven octaves and mixing of all musical genres, but it is the incredible command of his instrument, his voice and the emotional touch of people ... that brings us back again and again fascinates and surprises and again ... Such an assortment is a very rare gift and can only be achieved, maintained and perfected through tireless and never-ending training. Dimash cannot be pigeonholed.
Dimash always wanted to be on stage. As a young boy (3ys), he would often sit in the audience at his parents' performances and run on stage when they bowed at the end, and he would do the same.
In his childhood Dimash trained Taekwondo. A Dear gave him knee pads, but he says he's so deep into his songs that he doesn't feel any pain. 😃 Dimash looks good, is one of the 100 most beautiful men in the world and a model coveted around the world.

The theory of the meaning of this song which I find fits best is that it's actually an extremely tragic powerhouse of a song Having a degree in psychology as well as having worked with the mentally ill, in a nutshell this song is about someone so depressed that they're contemplating suicide, just wishing that someone (or something) from "out there" would hear his cries for help and come to take him away from "down here" to "up there", where situations might look so much better And by the last line--as the way a parent gently bids their child goodnight such as "Nighty night" or "Time to go to sleep now"--there's indications that the person has decided to give up, and "rest now"
However, PLEASE know that each of the songs Dimash chooses to sing are unique, running the gamut of ALL emotions Just as how he most often combines 3-4+ genres of music into one song (many have come to call it a new genre--"the Dimash genre") you will never, ever, get bored with a song by him with an infinite number of tools he can pull from his vocal toolbox at any time You will see!! It's about suicide. Contemplating existence & wanting an end to pain. The last line is like a Mother saying "beddy byes" or a Mother at a grave saying, "Rest in Peace. Sleep my child." It is a very deep song. Difficult technically & emotionally to deliver w/ the right amount of pathos, pain and anguish. This will probably go down as his most recognized song, but his beloved "DEARS'" song will always be: "If I Never Breathe Again." 🐐

"SOS d'un homme en distress" is a French song, music by Michel Berger and lyrics by Luc Plamondon. It was written in 1979 for the rock opera "Starmania". It is composed on 2 and a half octaves to exploit the range of singer Daniel Balavoine. I'm French and I've never particularly liked this song. But Dimash with his 6 octaves literally overwhelmed him and I love his version! The story told by Starmania is quite complicated to explain. It's an imaginary world: "In the near future, the West has united into one country, whose capital is Monopolis. As the presidential election looms, the city is terrorized by the Dark Stars, a punk protest band reigning over an underworld." It is a reflection around the Stockholm syndrome and the story of the kidnapping of Patricia Hearst

I was at the Düsseldorf and Prague concert this year in May. He had a lot of malfunction (maybe batteries) of his in ears at Düsseldorf. Especially on this song. Guess what... he never stopped singing and he was able to hit every note, despite not hearing anything. He was sitting on the stage, waiting for the team fixing the battery and singing. Though he changed the high notes a bit, its now one of my favorite versions and at the end he changed the lullaby to I love you Dears! 😍

I have always taken this song as a cry for help. Meaning I believe the man is contemplating suicide. Dimash is very good at portraying this sentiment! Dimash in my eyes is much more than a mere singer, he is a performer! Not knowing the language he can pull you in and make you understand the lyrics! He is simply amazing!

He feels uncomfortable in his skin, the song is about a man in distress. It's a French song that talks about a person that feels lost in Earth, about somebody that wants to transforms into something else (metamorphosis). Somebody that was born in the wrong place. Kind of a philosophical song.

Just a note so that you do not mistakenly refer to Dimash's fan base as the Dimash Army again.(ARMY is the name of the BTS fan base). Dimash's fans are called Dears, a name he gave us saying we were dear to him as family would be.
Dimash has changed music for me. I can no longer look at music the same. This is God given talent! It shouldn't even be possible. Not a day goes by that I don't listen to him.
