Strap in folks! Here’s the Explanation/Lore Drop: Alice (shapeshifter) and Jason are childhood best friends who grew up together. They bonded over the fact that they both know of each other’s secret abilities and hate the societal expectations of keeping them secret. Jason was the son of the senator and wealthiest man alive. Alice being the daughter of the chief of defense has grown bitter through the years at the amount of attention Jason’s family has received. She doesn’t know if her hatred is directed at Jason’s father or at Jason himself. As he is the pride and joy star child. He can do no wrong. Even Alice’s parents constantly compare her to him. What Alice does not realize is that life behind closed doors for Jason is not fun at all. After being outted as having special abilities (which is frowned upon) at a banquet hall, he almost ruins his family’s reputation. He is kicked out and forced to go into hiding. Faking his kidnapping and making him a missing person. Jason does not want to leave without saying goodbye to Alice so he asks her leave with him. She declines, heartbroken that her only friend was leaving her, but also ceasing the opportunity. She goes to her father and asks to enroll and begin training to be a soldier. Her father agrees, her mother is conflicted but she ends up being more powerful than they had anticipated. Especially since they can use her shapeshifting ability openly now that she has proved her loyalty to her people. After three years (she’s now 17) she is given a mission to retrieve Jason and find him so that he can join a bigger mission, as they can use his future seeing ability to good use. Since Jason left Alice a note on how to find him if she ever changed her mind she immediately knew what she had to do. Finding him in a completely different state, and posing as if she had run away. For a split second she feels comfort in finding her friend, but that is quickly taken away when she realizes he’s been doing well without her. In fact, he seems better than before. Once again turning to jealousy and anger, she doesn’t let their past get in the way of accomplishing the mission. After about 8-10months of gaining information and the trust of both boys she was officially ready to take them into custody. She was originally going to use Marco as an ultimatum but when he managed to escape, she ended up using her shapeshifting as a last minute resort. She went very far in her plan to the point of just being cruel. Her plan worked out not in the way she thought. Jason was willing to work with them as long as they let Marco go. But she fakes his death anyways, in order to show that Jason should never consider crossing her. Officially destroying the bond they once had with a single moment. She no longer feels an alliance to their friendship fully becoming a part of the system that seeks out to destroy them. Sorry this was so long lol I’m a chronic overexplainer 😩😩
