I love the typing on the computer clips, I don't know why, but for some reason they're very relaxing. And Brooke seems like she'd be fun to hangout with in person too! I love how you edit your videos Kate! 👍 Also is buckee's like a Target/Walmart? It's not something we have over here on the West Coast (from what I've noticed) but it seems like a really fun store👍

There's nothing more satisfying than starting a fresh new story! I'm writing a story with the main heroes from one of my favorite animes re-imagined as magical girls. It's a fanfic so I can't publish it, but it's super fun just writing some self-serving nonsense for once!
I watched Brooke's vlog and learned about the girl who kept saying "hi." So cute!

Hi, Kate! I'm late to the Camp Nano party this year, but I have been working diligently on my WIP for the past few months. I am a few chapters away from finishing the rough draft. I know where I'm going, but getting there is taking FOREVER because I am such a slow writer. #turtlewriters
I'm not doing camp nanowrimo since I am not doing any writing or editing after finishing my draft but I am rooting for y'all.
I attempted to make some character aesthetic boards but now it has just become like two pictures and a million quotes.

We were laughing ALL weekend! And her giggle is adorable omg.
Week one actually went pretty well. I was supposed to do 7 hours and I actually did 8.5. I even managed to get work on my second draft for my novel which isn't part of my camp project. I am tracking by minutes. I use the stopwatch on my phone. Since I place my phone next to my keyboard, it is actually really hard for me to forget about it. Plus, since I can pause it without losing my time, I can walk away for a while and come back to it later.
WOOHOO! Congrats. So happy to hear it's going well for you! :) The timer is what I stole from Becca too and I've moved to keeping it right next to me! Before I kind of put it slightly out of sight and that created problems where I'd forget to "pause" so now I think I'm on board with you!

This is my first time in Camp Nanowrimo! I’m honestly struggling a little bit but it’s because I’m taking classes while looking for freelance writing jobs AND working on this...yeah, I’m crazy 😝
I’m a couple thousand words away from my goal this week since my computer’s charger isn’t working and i’m having to buy a new cord. Makes me really sad :(

There's something nice about writing freehand before going straight to the computer to write. I find that when I type in what I've written, I can edit as I go, I can rewrite something that doesn't translate quite how I wanted it to. When I get going I write pretty fast, but it ends up with a lot of lines through it. Reading my own handwriting is quite 'fun', because my writing is a mess.

This adventure in writing retreats is so much fun, and it’s a great place to “rest my brain” and remember how much fun it is to room with friends and laugh and giggle. I have friends like that, too, and now I want to go reserve a hotel suite! And take my computer! And talk instead of write. LOL So sweet!
I find this insight into how other people work absolutely fascinating. I *only* count my progress by time, and I make very detailed plans on what I want to accomplish (frex, I plotted the next 3 chapters, 6 scenes, this morning. Tomorrow I'll dictate and edit them all). I also use the Forest app when I start my sessions (I do 2 hours every morning from 6:30-8:30), and use Freedom to block email and the internet for that time. For me, counting by words made me itchy because anything *not* that, and a LOT of writing is *not that*, was worthless by that metric.
And to the extent it helps, I don't count getting ideas while doing something else. That's awesome. That's a bonus. I count the time I'm intentionally working on it.
Week one went great, but I quickly have started to feel burn out.

This week was definitely a struggle, but I’m slowly getting back into things. These vlogs are definitely encouraging that I’m not alone lol. Hopefully today marks the day I catch up, since I’m 1k behind.

Ahhh your vlogs are what keeps me going through Camp! I actually was sick for a couple of days so I didn't do any writing, but yesterday I was able to write 2k and if I can write a little bit extra today too I will catch up.
I originally thought to do minutes but exactly what you say in the vlog about the fact that you think about progress in words and that it's hard to track the minutes made me change back to words at the first day.

Week 1 went really well. I'm also trying to not work at the weekends! I also can't count, lol. I'm working towards a scene count goal, intending on finishing the first draft of my current WIP, and I TOTALLY miscalculated my daily minimum. Thankfully in my favour, because I thought I had a 3 scene minimum, including weekends, buut actually it's only 2 minimum WITHOUT weekends. So how I managed to do the maths THAT wrong, I have no clue! But still, chugging on now. Looks like you had a great time. I keep thinking of doing a writing retreat, but have yet to take the plunge!

Doing camp with a minute goal seems so difficult. I can't math so I know it'd all just be a guess lol. I'm doing a word goal since I'm still working on finishing the draft I started in April & it was a struggle all week up until I did the 12 hour write a thon on saturday. I got 11k in one day so now that I have that cushion I'm feeling so much more relaxed. Good luck with week 2, can't wait for another 40 minute vlog ;)

Week 1 has had its ups and downs since I’m recovering from bronchitis (I’m okay now just have a lingering cough)
I use the Forest App on my phone to track time...they even plant actual trees according to how well people do.

Week 1 seems to be crazy for everyone! Though I feel less bad now about my 58 minutes video seeing that yours is 40 minutes. Also, I've been going up and down with how productive I am with my story. Some days I can just get all the words, and others I can barely get any. Also, I don't know if you've been talking with Becca, but she's using the StopWatch on her phone to record her time, that might help you. Just an idea. :)
Week 1 went great for me! Met my goal of 1.6k words everyday so far. It was also my first serious time writing so I've already learned like so much just in that one week.
Duke is a 10/10 doggo. I want to give him all the pets.

Such a fun vlog!! Have you tried the app HOURS? You can create timers for an entire day and it adds it up for you as you go. Not sure if it would help?? Can't wait for more writing vlogs! And... hi Brooke! :0)
My first week didn't go very well at all! I've already lowered my goal from 60 hours to 30 hours because of how unmotivated and badly I've been doing- rewrites and finishing off a WIP I'm not 100% invested in anymore so it's difficult. I'm tracking my time in two different ways. 1- doing 20 minute writing sprints then tallying how many I've done. 2- Using the stopwatch on my phone from when I start to when I finish a writing session.

I've seen a few of your videos, and wonder, which service did you use to bind up your novel drafts when you printed them out?
I’m currently on my third day in a row of not writing anything for my Camp NaNo project. I’ve been trying to get back on track, but right now all I want to do is work on my fanfic WIPs (of which there are at least four). So, to summarize it, ADHD is currently kicking my ass and I’m struggling to un-kick it.
I have always wanted to write, but don't know where to start. I am planning on trying in November. Do you have any tips
Have you tried the stopwatch method, that’s the method I use to count my minutes. I got it from Becca C. Smith when she was doing her daily Volgs. Start the stopwatch when you begin working, then stop when your doing something else. It works well for me, you can have it on your phone or computer.
My goal for camp nano is to write 30k words, and honestly, I'm feeling really disheartened. I'm about 3k behind where I should be, but I'm hoping that a couple of REALLY GOOD writing days will help. I intend on filming myself for one of my days off work to see if having the camera on me for a writing vlog will inspire me to write a bunch. Who knows, maybe I'll end up doing 10k in one day!
I don't knowww, this minute-tracking method is giving me anxiety just watching the struggle of trying to track it hahaha after July I wonder how you will overall think about having done it this way
here in brazil we call these cheese breads "Pão de Queijo" hahahaha, i eat them every week and never get tired, it's very tasty, i really like it
I'm a little out of my comfort zone too since I'm not counting words. I'm counting pages AND I'm writing a script for a mini series, so there was some getting used to. Will I reach my goal of 280 pages by the end of this month? We'll see.
