      314299 Shooting Channel - I agree! And the stuff is all over throughout the whole world fortunately/unfortunately. I love watching your videos too. So finding your comment on another channel was a nice find. BTW I love that bullet mould # myself for the M44. =)

    Thank you, Lars, for revisiting the subject of bottle cordage. After I saw your first video about it, I tried it myself. I built an emergency shelter with the entire frame lashed together with bottle cord, heated as you showed, and it still stands even after surviving several severe thunderstorms.
    The improved cutter you presented here looks to be even more efficient. I think I'll make one like it as well.

    Actually I came to the same tool and results, when I saw your first design, only the wire bottle holder I will copy. My tool got 7 slots and the smallest string possible without constantly breaking is 1,6 mm

    A nice re-visit of this tool and a cool upgrade! I bet this spike can be a good tent peg or maybe even spearhead, who knows.
    It also shows us that a basically trash-based tool can become a survival tool by interacting with human remains. I find that actually very incredible and makes me think.

  • @Hunnter2k3

    That is a much better version! So much faster.
    Best thing is the larger blade can be used for longer before you need to sharpen it since you can just move it along compared to the tiny blade in the old version.
    I think the addition of the nail and wire definitely help. It can be used elsewhere, but wrapping it on there fits so nicely.

  • @Blueswailer
    @Blueswailer 6 років тому +4

    Having seen the video featuring the earlier version of the cordage cutter, it's pretty cool seeing this improved version. I was surprised at the length of the cordage from that single bottle. An eminently useful survival tool unlike so many others that are marketed as such.
    A true(and sad) point about finding plastic bottles and such especially along coastlines. The way so many people litter nowadays is a travesty. Thank you for the video Lars, have a great week!

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  6 років тому +1

      I agree on all points :) and people who litter should be in some sort of reeducation camp.

    • @Blueswailer
      @Blueswailer 6 років тому

      That camp doesn't sound like a bad idea. Put them in there and drill into their heads how fucked the world is if litter keeps building. As a form of poetic justice and my suggestion; I would enjoy it if litterers were made to clean highways, parks and coasts with no pay. Say, one week of unpaid work, 8hrs/day cleaning per ounce of trash material thrown to the ground.

  • @chrisosh9574
    @chrisosh9574 6 років тому +8

    Wow! Last year I made a bottle cutter from a plywood board and a craft blade held by two nuts,bolts and some washers to space for cord thickness ,it doesn't work half as well as your aluminium angle does. I will give your system a try it looks much better.
    One of the handy things with being able to heat shrink drink bottles is to cut the top off and slide it on to a post and heat shrink it to help stop the ends in the ground from rotting, you can cap the tops too, to stop water getting into the end grain.

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  6 років тому +1

      If you use this device at home, it's better to use a heavier steel wire which will not wobble as much.

    • @chrisosh9574
      @chrisosh9574 6 років тому

      A good point, I will probably make it to fit in a vice so a thin steel rod will most likely work.

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  6 років тому +1

      You can also check out this video. It's in Russian, but you don't really need to understand what he says in order to make his device. Awesome for home use ua-cam.com/video/YjVbRgheAso/v-deo.html

    • @chrisosh9574
      @chrisosh9574 6 років тому +1

      That was more or less what I made, it must be me because I couldn't make it work as well as on the video, I prefer the wire/rod to stabilise the bottle.
      I can follow about half the Russian in the video, my wife is Russian, I don't speak it but get the gist of most conversations. She speaks good English and Spanish, I speak Spanish as well, although I have just found a good site to learn Russian so I will start to learn at my own pace. So far learning the alphabet is the first hurdle.

    I could use that for a few things out & about in the yard and woods. I think I'll make one of steel since I have a few old bedframes hanging out in the garage (never throw away good steel!) but I don't have any aluminum angle laying around. A threaded hole in steel will eliminate the need for a nut, too.

    With all that birch you have, you should be out looking for burl to make a nice knife handle with. Some of that burl that comes from Karelia is quite beautiful and expensive.
