    Please excuse the scratchy audio in places. Our microphone box has subsequently been thrown vigorously at the wall, so everything will surely be fixed for the next video... Anyway, how do you feel about the Polestar 3... premium prestige or priced to fail?

      Someone will buy these cars. It's not a Tesla or Mach-E so to stand out from the crowd, there will always be willing buyers. It won't be me. - '17 Bolt EV Owner

      There will certainly be takers for any unique product, but that's a limited pool of buyers and a short window to sell, as the next shiny new object will be a long quickly in the EV world! If it burnishes the brand's growing roster alongside the more affordable 2 and upcoming Polestar 4, though, that might be enough.

    My goodness these prices are ridiculous. I understand that initially the expectation is early adopters pay the price and then eventually prices drop but some of these prices are just insane.

      Hopefully these are just launch numbers and US production will help get more competitive pricing for 2024.

      @@plugandplayEVYes. When production start in us gonna be better prices. But the prices ain’t that bad. It is what a car like this cost. Polestar are not some regular car company. Polestar is that extra special. I have orderd the P3 and for me it cost like any other real luxury safety car

    • @plugandplayEV

      I think what got me initially was that the Polestar 2 had become quite accessible at the time I saw this, with a lot of offers/discounts to make it compete with the Model 3.
      But P3 is more on the Porsche Macan/Lucid Gravity level, so it starts to make more sense in today's market. Getting an entry model to $79.9K and qualifying for $7,500 credit would make it a slam dunk though. Here's hoping! ⚡

      It's a premium price for a premium vehicle. It competes with Porsche, Mercedes and Audi so this is not a vehicle for everyone. I've ordered one but the P4 is supposed to be less expensive.

    I really like the design, but that price will be tough. I can see this appealing to buyers who are less concerned with price and are more interested in either the Volvo legacy of it or really wanting something unique to the other EVs out there.

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Рік тому +2

      Seems like it's going to have to walk that line between on-the-road performance and interior comfort, plus a little brand individuality to thread the eye of the pricing needle. Seems like a tall order, to me, but I'm happy to be proven wrong if we get an exceptional EV out of the deal!

      For me the Volvo EX30 is for the one who care about the price ain’t don’t have or want to spend the money. But for the people who want the extra special and the best will go for the Polestar 3 and 4.

    While i do see how the price can be an issue - i can also clearly see that many of the wealthy people will not care and would NEVER look to compare this car with any mustang mache e, ioniq 5, ev6 GT or anything of sorts, especially when looking at the driviing charactersitics, which should definitely befeel more upmarket than of all the cars you mentioned. Only iX, EQE/EQS Suv, and E-tron q8, Model X will be considered for the respective customer group - simply due to its luxury nature and design feel. So basically a niche product i think :) Personally, i think it's by far the best looking premium/luxury EV Suv out there.
    Thanks for the vid!

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Рік тому

      Very true, thanks! I think the comparisons across EVs at different price points may seem off, but they're often relevant in terms of EV specs. So while a customer might not normally think "premium" for Kia and Hyundai, they are at the forefront of EV tech and providing faster charging/greater efficiency at a lower price point.
      And the Polestar brand will now span everything from "semi-affordable" with the single motor Polestar 2 to six-figure luxury with a fully speed Polestar 3, so it hasn't reality established the same reputation for the luxury performance niche as, say, BMW has. But that's really the underlying question of this video, I guess: where will Polestar finally find home (and succeed) on the competitive EV landscape?

      @@plugandplayEV not for me, I am not an SUV person; but for someone who might be inclined toward something like a BMW iX, the 3 is a comparable vehicle for those who want something a little more like a piece of art than a BMW.

      I hope so. If they can reach a price and sourcing/assembly that meets the federal tax credit requirements, it could quickly flip the situation on its head and make this one of the better luxury/premium EV deals out there.

      Very different ends of the market and use cases, but the point about efficiency needs to be emphasized. At some point, when complimentary charging deals end and DC fast charging prices settle on a price per kWh, how well the vehicle uses energy will become a more important focus.
      300 miles from a 111 kWh pack puts this at 2.7 miles per kWh / 370 Wh per mile on a generous test cycle. If that translates to a significanly lower number at highway speed, this is going to be an expensive SUV to run, as well as purchase!

    I agree on your comment on the price, as a potential buyer, I am either going Tesla Model Y Dual for much cheaper and better recharging, or I am going a bit up to Mercedes with the EQE or the BMW iX. The Polestar 3 does not have anything to win over these alternatives. A bit like the VW Touareg back in the days.

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Рік тому +1

      Thanks, that's a helpful example. Perhaps because it's not as established a brand, Polestar does sit somewhere in a gap between established luxury and a future-focused EV maker. Hopefully they find a way to either make the price more competitive or play up the specs and features that help explain to customers how it stands out against the likes of the iX and Mercedes options.

      @@plugandplayEV For the first time in history, a 38 000€ car is doing important things like range and recharging better than the 90 000€ options. It is disturbing. The 50 000€ Model Y is also more powerful than the iX 40 and most EQE!

    • @sawangification

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Рік тому

      @@sawangification There's a significant quality gap between the Y and PS3, to my mind, not least in the cabin insulation. Road noise in the Model Y (and 3) is far from the premium level, whereas initial tests in the PS3 (i.e. me closing the door in a noisy, crowded environment) were audibly impressive. Not that it justifies a $20-30K price gap, but there are some aspects that premium buyers might be attracted to.

    Its competitors are the Audi etron and the bmw IX. Not a low end ionic 5 lol. What?

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Рік тому +2

      The point there is that the EGMP platform as a whole offers better EV specs at a lower price.
      For premium, we can perhaps compare to a Genesis GV60, which won't match the handling but is also priced $30K lower.
      For luxury, is this really going to hold a candle to the BMW iX or Mercedes EQS SUV, internally? Nothing I saw inside suggests it would.

      Thanks Mike, I'm hoping it will prove to be more than the sum of its parts and provide clear advantages over the Polestar 2 Performance, beyond a bit more practicality and space. In luxury terms, it's up against the likes of the BMW iX and Mercedes EQS SUV, both of which would seem to be a cut above. (At least inside... outside, this kills both dead!)

  • @Lynyrd_Evnyrd
    @Lynyrd_Evnyrd Рік тому +2

    It seems way too expensive to me but maybe with time prices can come down?
    Pricing aside it looks like a winner. The Volvo style aesthetic is much beloved, it is built in a popular form factor and the claimed charging speeds are pretty excellent.
    One criticism I could levy is also performance for the price. My much much cheaper boosted Dual Motor Model 3 can go from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. It’s the worst case comparison but for $95K+ and being called a “performance” it should be better.

    • @plugandplayEV

      Another viewer speculated that these could be initial production prices, which could decrease once US production is achieved in South Carolina. If that's the case and the 3 ends up meeting the requirements for federal incentives in 2024, it becomes a more compelling buy.

      This one is fully electric, no combustion engine there, but it is still pricey unless they can squeeze it down below $80K and qualify for federal incentives.

      No, and sorry for only showing that exterior color swatch briefly. There are six colors: Space, Snow, Midnight, Thunder, Magnesium, Jupiter. They're all variants of white/off-white, black, and gray, though the Jupiter does look like it could pop on the 3 and give it a hint of gold.

    What are you talking about. Bro you’re clueless. Performance isn’t 0-60. People need to get that shut out of their head. It’s cornering. Handling. Comfort on cornering. Dampening + speed. Not just 0-60.

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Рік тому +3

      Sure, I get that, but it's still going to be a $30,000 premium over a Polestar 2 Performance. So the extra is either down to practicality, which this certainly has over the 2 but it's still a big gap, or interior luxury, which I didn't find to be highly different to its sibling.
      Does that make sense, or am I still talking out of my arse? Either is fine and thanks for highlighting the point! 👍
