Nice demonstration of this.. I like the lift this gives more on those bass frequencies.. This maybe the plugin i could be looking for, as i'd been using logics stock stereospread for ages. which is very limited to say the least. The compressor you briefly showed also looks like a fun bit of kit too.. while i mostly use stock plugins again in logic.. will have to check some reviews on that first.

Essentially a stereo spreader with some character, But its also doing the smart stuff like non phasing all automatically. Bit expensive but honestly who pays PA full prices ever anyways.

@@Unders forgot to mention the non phasing part got my attention a bit.. regarding plugin prices.. usually pluginsboutique has good deals for less.

Brainworx is exclusive to PA though as NI also own it.

@ historically PA do a massive January sale. So wait out on that if I were you.

Interesting. I always thought Bukem's subs had a subliminal widening at the top end and I've often tried to emulate it. Basslane is a plugin that's supposed to achieve the same thing although it does it with added harmonics which aren't quite as pleasing as I'd like. I have a Joey Sturgis plugin called Sidewidener which is effective but I only use it in combination with the Ozone Imager module so I can control where it diverges from mono. I also use a Cubase plugin called Multipanorama that gives me a graphic view of the stereo spread across the frequency spectrum - although I'm never sure whether this method is introducing all sorts of artifacts. I do get a bit nervous about the whole process though so I only use the "wide at the top" thing on stuff like pads, pianos and vox. Even though I often experiment I always revert to my subs being fully mono - but I am going to look at this SPL Big because it seems to have a nice sound.

Contrary to what some will say, keeping the sub (below 60hz) is a solid bet for any club based music.
As for adding artefacts. Yup. But if it’s sounding right it kinda doesn’t matter. And it why in the video I’m on and off that sum to mono all the time.

Most people will have all these tools in their DAW so a little bit snake oil for me. 😎
