I went from a MT-07 to a MT10 within a year of first learning how to ride and ride. I just respect every thing about the bikes man and take it easy. The fun part to me I’m the torque and taking off from a stop light and getting on it, not top speed.

The fz09 is one of three bikes I have. I like your review and I like the fz. I sold my Ducati x diavel to buy the fz. Although not as quick the fz is more fun and better handling. I ride fairly aggressively when I feel like it but no wheelies for me. At 73 I may be slowing down a bit.

A new JMG video! Love seeing the FZ-09 content! I went from a clapped out GS-550F to my Bolt R-Spec to an '09 R6 to my '14 FZ-09. It's all about the respect for that particular bike. Just not going ham on the throttle all the time and putting yourself in a bad situation. I do believe anyone COULD start on my bike, but I would never recommend it. If someone told me they started on a 09, I'd call them crazy but maybe it just speaks to their discipline and self control.

Man that online 3 growl sounds so Awesome!!!! Great video Jon , and after almost 30 years of riding ( street ) I am a firm believer that unless a new rider ( on the street ) should start out on a powerful bike ( anything over 500cc ) because they will very quickly and undoubtedly feel the need to twist that throttle to far , too soon and can end up in a bad situation or worse . Now if they grew up riding dirt bikes or quads , threewheelers , then ya I say pretty much they'll be able to pretty much handle themselves ( depending doing on their amount of dirt riding experience ) But all in all it's that twist of the wrist that generally gets people into trouble too often , when they 're not experienced , or a beginner rider .
Really enjoyed listening to that mean growl coming g from that Mt09 , and as always bro , enjoyed the content . Also agree with the guy that said it would be cool to see you and your pops doing some riding together 👍 Take care Jon , and may the good Lord watch over you everytime you throw a leg over your bikes 🙏

hey john. longtime fan and fellow chandler resident. i experienced this exact thing last weekend. i've only been riding since december when my gf and i got our endorsement. still don't have my own bike but i've rented a few times. went to an indian demo day and decided to try the FTR. figured if it was too gnarly i'll just stop before i leave the parking lot. but with proper respect for the bike i had a blast. even with my first group ride and first time on the freeway.

For me it's all about the acceleration that would make that bike fun. I don't want to do wheelies. But I'd love to jut twist the throttle and go!

It took me awhile to get used to the throttle, but I have discovered B MODE is best for wheelies. I can throttle up in 3rd gear at 65mph easily or 2nd gear around 40mph. When I try in A MODE or STD the front end doesn't come up. I do have a ZX-6R rear shock though, the stocker just compresses and you lose that energy. Best mod I've done is Hurricane Bars

Been considering an FZ09/MT09 (currently have an FZ07) for the fact that it handles the freeway better. Something just feels off when the flow of traffic is 75-85 mph and I'm trying to cruise. Just feels like the top end of the bike isn't really stable. Have been starting to commute more as the weather starts to cool down here in FL and when ever I get on the freeway I think to myself man this would feel way better on an MT09 or CB1000r or another similar higher displacement naked... something that can smoothly cruise in that speed range. Love the FZ07 for everything else it rips like mad

I went from an MT-125 to MT-07 to MT-09 SP in 3 years. I'd say the 07 and 09 (particularly the 09) are much less of the crazy monsters that people make them out to be. A rider's gonna have to learn appropriate throttle control for whatever bike they find themselves on. The 07 wanted to power wheelie everywhere for the first week, the 09 rarely does 'em (but maybe that's just because I learned throttle control on the 07). You could do a training course on a 600-700cc bike, get your licence and be perfectly comfortable on an MT-07. The 09 would be an alright first bike if you ride it in standard mode for a while and are careful with throttle, but low speed control is gonna be a much steeper learning curve. Low speed control with that much power is the main reason not to go for an 09 as an inexperienced rider

A damper helps, but really the bike is just not a good 100+ machine. It's a city and back road weapon. The wheelbase, chassis and cheap suspension just aren't really for sustained high speed riding on highways or fast tracks. Tight tracks or b-roads though? Absolute monster.

Gen 1 Mt09 is a beast of a bike. hands down the baddest naked to come out at the time. no abs no tc..no nothing. modes on a mt09 make no difference in the power you still have the same power full throttle in b mode..just eases you up on it if you want a lighter throttle and a mode is dark side of japan mode...so glad i own a mt09 tracer that i can switch on certain stuff and it makes her such a tame beast in chains.
look after her. recon the gen 1 will become rather collectable down the line.

Not big fan of wheelies have TWO Custom MT09 and a Custom SXR900 all 2018. Live in the land of twisies and unreal views. TWO totally different bikes the MT09 and SXR900. Love the twisties, great handling, light, fast, comfortable so easy to work on all 3 bikes. The SXR900 is a little taller, sexier, totally differant and feel, the front fork is better than MT09 more of a mental cruiser feel, laid back with that hell with it rocket ship when you want it and just as insane as MT09, the SXR stock seat is the best OEM seat I have seen in long time. The ECU is different giving the SXR900 a laid back mature feel were the MT09 ECU it is a straight rocket ship fell that says get it on, must flash the ECU's, I have the sadleman 93 stunt seat on both MT's no better seat for the MT09 feels great can ride all day and when you let it loose you can only go so far back with this seat that gives you more confidence like I'm not hanging on for dear life, like a little cockpit your sitting in. I ride like a nut and don't know how but pull 45-50 mpg which blows me away. SXR LEO VANCE DUEL exhaust, MT09 the full M4 Black and the full Apro Race exhaust K@N air filters all around with air box mode and quick shifter on both MT's and loads of parts. SXR comes with full carbon fiber body kit and full Anniversary Yamaha yellow body kit, MT09's have a full carbon fiber kit for one bike but Cobalt Blue Candy metal flake Yamaha blue rim's clear coated and other is Custom Red Candy metal flake with Yamaha Yellow rim, and Candy Red Rim and two sets of black rim's all cleared and ceramic coated to make so easy to keep them all clean. Both MT09's have front and rear stunt cages in Hi Flow yellow.

The FZ09/MT09 is "not" a beginner bike in regards that the suspension is shit for the amount of power this bike makes. It is not balanced
Beginner riders grasp the bars too hard which turn into tankslappers when turning the throttle extremely hard.
It has a short wheelbase, soft suspension (stock) and a ginormous amount of torque and adding a twitchy throttle is a recipe for fun and disaster.
Thrilling bike tho, always brings a bigass smile on my face

If you wanna learn wheelies... buy an mt07... if you don't care about wheelies and have a lil experience atleast, buy mt09... mistakes on mt07 could very well be more consequential on an 09.. Jon's just justifying keeping the bike for a longer amount of time at this point as he becomes more comfortable but he's also a really good experienced rider.. mt09 top speed isn't even that much faster then a flashed 07.. just a lil faster acceleration.. I was going to buy an 09 last year but I ended up getting an 07 instead for alot of different reason and I'm really happy with it tbh.. I could see myself content for like 3-5 years... but the right mt09 comes along for the right price ima buy it.

I don’t mind if the front tire comes up but I’m not out here chasing wheelies. I’m a day in the mountains carving up some twisties guy. I will say I have a lot of respect for the animal it is so I ride it more reasonably than my Harley which I beat the absolute piss out of because unless you’re outriding the brake potential, it’s hard to get into trouble with it. But it’s to be expected. The Harley is 99 Mustang GT fast, the MT-09 is Corvette Z06 fast

Different people learn in different ways. I've known beginners that started on GSXR1100s and never wrecked, and seen more than 1 250 not make it across the street from the dealer and get totalled.
