- Here it is! Enzo Maresca tactical deep dive, looking into his Leicester City title winning side, the principles and dynamics of his team, and then of course how it COULD look at Chelsea.

Leicester fan here, I'm in total agreement that Enzo suits the deeper role, it'll take some adjustment but I think he could boss it.

I think something quite important that you missed out on is this way of playing limits the amount of sprints James has to do, and potentially could save his hamstrings
It’s hard to put the formations as text but Cucurella tucking into the pivot James/Gusto more Vertical. Enzo Right side of pivot has CB and James for defensive security. Caicedo left 8 helps Cucurella defensively and progressively (sort of Ndidi but left not right. Puts Palmer in and around his comfort zone, the KDH 8 but right instead of left. Might look a bit better vertically, as we tend to look at the setup’s horizontally 4/3/3 4/2/3/1 etc. You then have Fofana/James/Enzo/Palmer (Olise?) on the right. Colwill/Cucu/Caicedo/Nkunku left. Suits these guys tendencies as Caicedo has more legs than Enzo, Palmer’s goal contribution from the right etc. The width on the left may be a thing, As of now Sterling is still an option ( especially back stick, arriving, cutbacks etc?)

There’s also Lavia for that pivot with fullback but I think he should be Enzo’s rotation

I know Poch experiment but Colwill does look like one day he could be that Gvardiol/Ake (Walker) CB/FB type, maybe invert. Gusto inverted on the left? They may get another CB as opposed to a LB because of this and Fofana being a bit of a Unicorn
The way Moresca’s Leicester side react after losing the Ball, I’ve wanted that all season at Chelsea….similar to arsenal, city and Liverpool
Palmer will definitely occupy the n.o 8 position then Madueke will be the wide winger. I also think chukwuemeka will fit perfectly in the squad.

On the transfers, retaining chilwell isn't a bad option kyle walker did invert with ease and chillwell is of similar mould his challenge is to be fit for a season, but my main concern is a lw not convinced by mudryk or sterling to maintain width and dribble.
Good analysis. The only thing I’d add is the option to shift colwill to LCB and Badiashille is CB. Badiashille is a great line breaking passer and has recovery pace!

I agree with enzo actually playing deepest of the midfield, glad I've seen someone finally saying this. In that Frontline, I think one of palmer or nkunku would have to play wide and so would be restricted as a result
Yeah absolutely agree, Enzo is best utilised as the deeper 100+ touch player, and I also agree one of Nkunku or Palmer probably starts wide which isn’t quite getting their absolute best traits to flourish
@@HoldenConnor00 Agreed. Enzo is world class in that role We've seen it in Benfica and under Potter. Nkunku and Palmer would slot into any position but would cook in the half spaces, hopefully with Osimhen leading the line.
Agreed to the Enzo playing deep, buh palmer would always be in the number 10 position. That's how he was mostly used my same coach during his academy days at city. Nkuku, would likely play as a nine or a winger .
@@HoldenConnor00I think Nkunku could work as Maresca’s Mavididi. Calculated, good finisher and not so over reliant on pace and 1v1 prowess. However that means that on the right we must have someone direct like Madueke

In terms of Palmer off the right, he can absolutely do it and be a massive output factor from there, I just think you can get more out of Palmers skillset than a touchline 1v1 winger
It’s difficult to fit palmer and Nkunku in this system, like you said I don’t like palmer out wide because you want him on the ball as much as possible. But I also think Madueke and Sterling are better in wide areas than Nkunku…. Difficult

Issue with that is Colwill starts LB and Reece starts CB in a back four.
More likely would be Cucurella Colwill Fofana as the back 3 for example, Caicedo and Enzo stay as the double pivot and instead of inverting the RB, they provide the right sided width, many options but need to see if Maresca wants to change to this degree
So basically do what Poch did at the end?

I'm really intrigued to see how he profiles the players. I wouldn't want to shackle Nkunku and Palmer to hold the width. They are perfect in half spaces. Similar with James, as he is too good going forward, so shackling him in the middle would be a shame. Ideally James and a LWB should hold the width, Nkunku-Palmer in the half spaces, and Cucurella should invert. This would get the best out of everyone IMO.
Don’t you think it would be better for Reece’s body to be an inverted fullback instead of running up and down on the wing? I know we lose his crossing etc. I’m just thinking it’s better for him to actually play on the pitch. Put him anywhere and he’ll be world class.
@@jamiea1955 Yes absolutely. We don't know how durable he will be post-surgery. Inverting him could be a good way to limit the amount of high intensity sprints, which then lowers risk of re-injury. He is just a complete world class baller, he would fit in any system/position.
The coach himself has said he prefers having wingers holding width. Why people want to put fullbacks that are more limited in 1v1 situations there is a mystery to me.
@@Michealxlr Madueke's 1v1 ability is one of the best in the league, but he is neither a good finisher, nor a good crosser. James is phenomenal in both aspects. Imagine James crosses into the box and Osimhen at the end of those crosses. Unlocks any low block.
@@Michealxlr we not talking about any fullback here, its james, hes got better crossing and shooting than most wingers, need to be used

Brilliant video mate….palmer as an 8/10 closer to the right winger is perfect…… Enzo as a 6 and Moises as the other 8 would be great as well or the other way around

James is amazing on the right wing attacking areas, whipping in crosses into the box. I can also see Enzo and Caicedo in the pivot, Palmer inverting from RW to the 8 position and James hugging the touchline. In doing this, all the players are in positions where they can maximise their abilities.
I do agree that Reece and Gusto are quality in these byline crossing zones, however the wingers/width holders in possession have to be the HIGHEST on the pitch to pin the opposition back

What do you think about caicedo as the LB inverting, and then an enzo, palmer, nkunku midfield? Nkunku playing as a box crashing 8 and palmer being given the role KDH had in enzos system? Obviously the out of possession issues are there but from what i saw of a fit nkunku at the end of the season he does seem to be good with duels, and with our midfield and slower style of play we'll have alot of the ball so can maybe afford to be more attacking?
I thought about that too. However, Nkunku and Palmer in those roles would be too direct imo. Maresca would probably want someone a bit more defensive in that box crashing 8.
@isaiahrobinson988 yeah possibly but from what I've seen of nkunku last season he is quite good with recycling the ball and retaining possession so it could work out. I guess we'll have to wait and see what Enzo decides to do
If Maresca wants a high possession game, it's hard to see how we get the ball back quickly without Gallagher in the team. It's Conor and Caicedo who have done the majority of that work for Chelsea. Caicedo on his own isn't enough. Enzo gets bypassed. Palmer's great ball-recovery skill is anticipating and getting in the passing lanes rather than pressing 1v1 to tackle.
Maresca might have a tough choice to make between Enzo's ball progression and Gallagher's recovery. There's a lot of games to play, so there should be time for all the combinations, depending in the opponents.
What do you think of getting an LB that isn’t purely defensive that can also Overlap to change the dynamics if we want to play 3-2-5. RB as CB and LB Overlapping

What chances are there for maresca not to invert a full back, rather have a fullback overlap? I think Nkunku is better suited in the half space than being wide. So, Chilwell overlapping with Nkunku and Palmer in the half space, Enzo Caicedo pivot and Reece as the RCB.
That’s what I was thinking too. Cuz first I want Enzo and Caicedo in the double pivot. I feel like like the creativity, control build up between those two can control any team and any game if they can play together. We still have to see that combo to their full potential.
Also I wanna see James or gusto or chilly up and wide for those killer crosses cuz I feel like all of them have the best deliveries on the team, and won’t be limited to just build and defending.

@@blessed4ever616 James has the best delivery out of the 3. But chilly even though technically not so great brings the in behind runs behind the opposing RB. Gusto is pretty inconsistent with crosses but his overall game is really great, which helps to give Reece enough rest.

How often do you think Casadei will feature
Good video, curious to see what they do with the GK, I think Petrovic is better with his feet than he thinks he is, just lacks some confidence, although he is still young for a keeper. I guess there is also the potential for a Kepa return although I think he burnt those bridges and hasn't even been 2nd choice at Madrid.
The alternative is ST is Oshimen, Oshimen is good in Air so that will help against a low block

I agree with most of it. The only disagreement I have is with Nkunku out wide holding width. He is better than Mudryk, and I think he can do a job out there. However, asking him to hold width does take away from what he does best: arriving off of a main CF from the half space and scoring goals.

Im surprised most people aren’t considering Palmer in the midfield. He has played there for the City academy and for England youth teams. His profile is much more similar to a KDB or Odegaard than a Saka or Salah so midfield seems to be his future
Also playing on the left will probably benefit his creativity as his crossing can play a part from the left half-space, similar to what KDB does on the right. Against Forest, Palmer was much more focused on the left side than usual and he had a great creative game, though his scoring threat decreased
I agree, that’s why I think Palmer is best suited to the no8 in this system, receiver between the lines and creative 10 in the final third, the KDH role

why would the RB invert when in the best moments of pochettino's season, cucurella was inverted, james and gusto were the ones providing the width and even james have played a a right sided CB before? Also Madueke suits the right inside forward better than Reece James would as he already played there
Agree with Cucurella, could very much see him inverting too.
Inverting the fullback though is for protection but also so the wingers can sit high and wide to pin the opposition back (higher than the striker) - it’s sub optimal in this instance for that to be one of your fullbacks
I think keeping Kepa, Chalobah & Wesley Fofana is an option we have, but we need to sell out some players. I hope transfer market doesn't disappoint us. Rb Leipzig striker who is 6.5 will be great addition to Chelsea, the lad is 21 and has pace and scores goals.
How do you know who suit the 😂 system when we haven’t confirm the manager or train before you make a conclusion on players
Do you think we could see Moises as the inverted LB? I think he played there for Brighton some. That would allow us to play Enzo deeper with him and put Cole and Carney/Nkunku in the more advanced MF roles. Maybe against teams that are going to sit deep, to allow more creativity on the pitch.
I’ll be very curious what they do with Chalobah. At first blush seems like a good fit here but get the economics at play.

This is very possible yes, if Sterling isn’t sold I can see a world that he starts the season as the LW for sure

I would, I think with Mudryk he’s going to need time to integrate into a new system and learn what’s wanted of him, think if he gets it right and it clicks, he nails that position down as his, because as you rightly pointed out, the role is very suited to him, let’s see!
Do you think a player like Mateta would be a good cheap striker that fills the bully role and can willingly come if the bench without complaints?
I don’t hate that idea, but I don’t think Mateta is available for cheap, nor do I think he would move to sit on the bench (would atleast want to know he can be the starter if earned) big fan of him though, think he will have another big season under Glasner for Palace

Do you think Maresca will ALWAYS have 2 wingers in the wide attacking roles?
He did so at Leicester, but he seems more flexible than that to me.
The reason is we have full backs who really thrive in an advanced role (3/4, except Cucurella), where Chilly can't even play the inverted role (James certainly can, while for Gusto I believe he could too).
I think one of the options will be to advance a FB, invert that side's winger into half space and keep the rest of the defensive trio and the midfield pivot intact in a 3-2.
Having fullbacks hold width is sub optimal, doubt Maresca would do it
Maresca is probably the least flexible manager I've seen at Leicester. The way he plays is the way he plays. It doesn't change, ever!

GK: Try and get Bento as I’ve seen he’s decent in all departments
LCB/LB: Murillo
ST: Guirrasy but I think he’s off to BVB
RCB: Honestly no idea, but RJ can play here too lol

Enzo changing his system isn't plausible.
Truth is no manager at the Premier league level plays only with one approach. They adapt within and between games. Even Pochetino's Chelsea played using several tactical setups in various games. The main differemce is in their man management styles. Go check.

Could Maresca instead invert the left back instead of the RB, I feel like James in midfield hinders his full ability instead of him flying high and wide on the wing offering crosses and creativity to potentially olise/madueke. Ian Maatsen would be sooo perfect for that left back inverting role. Would slot right in but not sure he's staying.... Hopefully Maresca somehow keeps him if he likes him!!

Nah Ndidi was also a pure 6 player before Enzo but he got profiled as a box to box player after by the manager. I think the same thing will happen with Caicedo

Palmer out wide isn’t a smart idea, he wouldn’t do that…you don’t attach one of the most creative and impactful player in the league to the lines…he’d be worldclass as an advanced 8/10
