One of the best basslines ever, perfectly executed
Nice. David Frank played the bassline with one hand.
David Frank also did the sound design, arranging and the programming on Sussudio. The heart of the song is the Minimoog with 2 different tracks with 2 different bass sounds sequenced by an Oberheim DSX.
And you are correct. There are 2 interlocking/interweaving basslines. It was cutting-edge, but too complicated for the average Bassist.
@@ShadowsofSmoke When done live Leland Sklar said he there was a fair bit of playback so it made easier for him to play the bassline.
Thanks for the video. This is one of the greatest basslines of all time.
So cool to see someone with Two sleeves of tattoos playing this song
👏🏾👏🏾💯💯🙏🏾🙏🏾
Cool! David Frank said he played those parts live, if I recall correctly from a Keyboard magazine interview.
I had the Keyboard issue. If you do a hard search, you may be able to find that article. It does exist online.
@@ShadowsofSmoke I used to have a nearly complete collection of old Keyboard magazines, but lost them in a personal tragedy. I’m glad folks are scanning them and putting them online, given how the publisher quit abruptly and left no archive. There were a lot of great artist interviews, music instruction, and of course solid info about old music tech.
So groovy
You gotta hit the chorus now!
Wow.. that's impressive. You seem to be the only keyboard player to tackle this. How about the chorus section though? I've always been curious as to how it was executed. Was it 2 keyboard tracks overdubbed?. Pls let me know...if you can.
Thanks! And yes, I think there are definitely 2 tracks in the chorus with another "bass" part (that's playing in a higher register though)
Hi, so the chorus of the song is really going back-and-forth Between f7 which is the V7 chord and then the IV7 Eb7. The song is sort of a blues as the verse section does visit the E min7 or IV min 7 for a couple bars. There are 2 bass lines in the chorus. If you take it a couple bars at a time it is possibly educational. But really its just a matter of practicing ALOT:)) and then messing around with notes and rhythm just for the love...anyway have fun with music. If you love it, sometimes it loves you back.
Awesome!
nice sound!
Can I ask where you got your DMX samples from and if you did any processing to them? Your recreations are fantastic! Please make more.
The samples are nothing special and don't sound too good on their own. It takes quite a bit of processing. Trust your ears and good luck!
Can you play on the whole track that was so cool 🎹🎹🎹
49 secs. Come on bro.... u jus teased the hell out of us..... Wanted 2 c u go n!!!
Is that a Madball shirt?
@@csmcrckrs Nice! You don't meet too many people who like Madball AND The System haha
@@baldsportsfan9368 My exact thoughts, I was like damn, there are others like me? haha
Woow too short...
The first draft of this video had 5 seconds of the original track at the end (for comparison) and was immediately blocked for copyright reasons ... which is a shame cause I think I pretty much nailed the sound this time ;-)
Loved it 🎹🎹🎹🎹
