My sister's and I sang this to my Mom after Christmas Eve dinner every year (before dessert of figgy pudding, Christmas cookies and ice cream) By the end no one at the table had dry eyes. Mother & child, music and mickle mirth, magic by any other name. We'd grown up hearing this song, a 1960s recording from the King's College choir, decorating the Christmas tree, weeks before, another potent memory.
très beau ensemble de voix. Tous ensemble ils forment un seul instrument. C'est un cadeau que l'on trouve caché sous les grands arbres lumineux de décembre.

Takes me right back to my days as a chorister in the 1970’s. Always a highlight of the Christmas season.

This has been one of my favorite carols since forever.
I've heard this over the last few years and always return. Such a joy
I sang this as soloist about 45 years ago at our school's Christmas concert and now I've found this! Thanks for uploading!

Me too, in 1960. Today is the first time since then I have heard it again. Beautiful, indeed, and we sang it!

Thanks, that's helpful. I wondered about the language
Bel Canto hardly describes this!
That refrain! I can hardly stand it...
I still prefer this to be sung by a woman. This is excellent but not emotional. Better in folk mode.
