The first century Christian‘s comment about reading the Bible reminded me of a story a visiting pastor to our church told. He was ministering I believe somewhere in South America, and The local church was having their weekly Bible ceremony. A husband who was visibly very upset stood up and explained that the past week had been the best week of their life because they had gotten to read the Bible. They kept their children home from school and read the Bible together from the time they got up to the time they went to bed and memorized large portions of it. It turned out, that the church only had one Bible for the entire congregation, and the members all shared it by passing it to a new family each week. The man was so upset because their week was up.
That is LITERALLY INSANE. Is it also insane that I want to go back to parts of the world were being a Believer is still hard and can cost your life to spread the light and love of our Lord and Savor? Grace and peace
You miss the point. Look to the Bible to see how they were people of action. Stop following your "pastors", let them be overseers and teachers as they were originally intended. Pick up your own cross and go out into the world. God's church doesn't reside in a building meet on a certain day. It's a lifelong, worldwide community that needs to grow.
That makes me think of this movie ‘the good lie’. In the beginning of it A group of Sudanese brothers and sisters parents were killed and they wandered through the desert with nothing but a Bible, bamboo as a water filter and the clothes on their backs.

Naw. They're sleeping. Nobody goes anywhere until the end. Yeshua has to be a time traveler. He emptied "Gehenna" after he died, but it would have to be in the future.
The Church was built upon the blood of masses of Christian martyrs for just under 3 centuries until Emperor Constantine legalised Christianity in AD 311 (Edict of Milan). Thats a long time. Take a moment to appreciate it brothers and sisters. Great vid, sister! God bless.
This isn't satire or humour at all. It's deep and convicting. I felt the conviction from the Holy Spirit. This opened my eyes and gave me an impulse to review my faith life.

My church supports an evangelist in the Central African Republic. Him and his friends go from city to city and share the gospel at the risk of their own lives. Just recently one of their group was beaten badly, and had to spend time in the hospital because of his injuries. His only crime was sharing the gospel. We got word this week that he was released from the hospital and is right back sharing the gospel with anyone who will listen. We are spoiled, and we can't take that for granted. ♥️

Even at the height of persecution, not all who are imprisoned for Christ are put to death. Persecution never starts with imprisoning and killing, but that is where it ends.
It starts with placing blame on the group as a whole. For example “those most willing to get the v.”, setting churches on fire in Canada, arresting Pastors in Canada, arresting citizens in America for singing outdoors (even 6 feet apart) to the Lord, for daring to meet in their closed cars with a megaphone for church……it begins with publicated lies and blame…..it begins……

Atleast when he hit you with that question you were bettering yourself. I got hit by that question over video games. I barely play now. I went through a Bible in 10 days. He's been growing me in his word since 2020. I was raised as a "Christian" but not I'm embracing it.
1st century Christian: "There's lots of persecution, believers are being put to death but God is good." 21st century Christian: "I just got married, we bought a house and our life is great so God is good."
That’s the problem I see with a lot of Christians, they only say God is good because of their favorable circumstances, but never that God is still good despite their unfavorable circumstances when they fall on hard times.
That's why religious education is needed - my whole education i had religious education priests and theologists always placed stress on how God is good and he is never anything else, even when your life isn't the best. (Sorry for bad English, it's my second language)
2021 Christians in the Middle East aren’t doing so well, in the west we are spoiled and have distorted the word of God to follow the social trends, they are call progressive Christians.
More accurately, that is only the case for certain parts of the world. Think more globally, and Christians are being persecuted and killed more now than they ever were, mostly in the Islamic world/places receiving heavy Islamic immigration and in places governed by communism/fascism like China.
After hearing this, I can’t even look in the mirror. It says something about Christianity when we come to realize that it grows wherever it is persecuted. And Become stunted where it is not.
I think part of the reason is the contrast. The evil is right there and tangible. Same could be said for why converts to Christianity often seem more enthusiastic and more involved than those who grew up in the church. They already fully know the darkness and can see the difference the gospel makes.
I love this! I didn't know just how soft and comfortable we modern day American Christians had it until I learned about the persecutions Christians faced over in places like the middle east, North Korea, and China. God really has blessed us and we take it for granted.
@ Helen Thompson, I totally agree with what you said, we are way to comfortable in America, we need persecution, it will only make our grip on Jesus that much more stronger, and this rapture that alot of Christians believe in bothers me, why would you want to be taken out of this world when the very thing that you want to avoid will only make your faith that much stronger, I pray everyday that we go through persecution, we are way to comfortable in america.
@🌼Brianna Jenell🌼 That's the sad part...the Bible says we will be persecuted for being followers of Christ. However, most "Christians" in America are merely followers of mega celebrity "pastors or apostles or worse yet, prophets" & do little following of Christ's teachings or the Word of God. Powder puff Christians. True growth & faith in Jesus only comes through trials, tribulations, pain & suffering because it keeps us dependent on Jesus for His strength, peace, mercy, grace & forgiveness. American "Christianity" has sold a false bill of goods as to what "success" in the name of "Christianity" means. Success is not mentioned in the words of Paul or Timothy or the NT epistles. It's unfortunately what the Church of today thinks being a Christian is: Success, prosperity, health, having a ministry whereby you preach about all the great things you're entitled to as a follower of Jesus...just so sad & shameful. Satire or not, this is much closer to truth than should be.
Thanks for this video! I really felt ashamed. I often justify my laziness in prayer, reading Scripture, and (especially!) charity by saying that I don’t have money or time or conditions. But first century Christians didn't have any of what I have! It hit me right in the heart! Thanks!
I feel rather convicted by this video. Many of our brothers and sisters in Christ died for Christ’s sake and so that the scripture be passed down to generations, whilst we, modern Christians who have 24/7 access to the scripture that our brothers and sisters died for, we neglect reading the Bible from time to time (always make excuses for not doing so)
Absolutely agree! I was chuckling throughout the video but when she got to the part of having a bible and not studying it and memorizing it, it just smacked the smile right off my face. 😞
This made me think about how the Gospel spread throughout the Empire; without a bible, printing press, and the "line of on". Jesus never travelled far beyond his home. It is amazing to ponder that through word of mouth, the holy spirit and the dedication of courageous people transformed the world while being openly persecuted. We truly are blessed considering what the early Church went through.
@@vito7361 But the writings were so fragmented and the populace so illiterate that it's miraculous how far and wide the message spread and remained preserved. It was mostly through word of mouth. Setting aside the other fact that most of the New Testament was written in about a four decade span, it took until the 4th century AD (about 300 years after Christ) for the New Testament scripture canon to even be properly decided upon.
7:06 through the end is absolutely brilliant. Required viewing for every Christian who whines about “persecution.” As modern Christians there is so much we take for granted.
In all honesty, if you do listen to it, you'll get a better a understanding of how to identify false doctrine. I'm not saying listen to them (false teachers) all day every day but it is good to understand the false teaching.
@HANUNIJA The vaccine is NOT the Mark of the Beast, although it could be in the future. What makes the Mark so damning is that one must deny Christ in order to receive it.
Fantastic message! Sure, losing a few friends always sucks and online harrassment is never fun, but these are nothing compared to what to early church went through. We are beyond blessed in so many ways and we need to be grateful for it.
Sadly, that's an accurate portrayal of Modern Christianity in the overwhelming majority of the cases... What we call today 'modern Church' is a complete shame when compared to the Early Church....
I don't her and I don't think there is anything wrong with the statement from her own end. When Jesus resurrected, He did not allow the disciples to preach the gospel until they were empowered by the Holy Spirit. Last month or so, I heard a pastor in the cessationist fold say that what Christians need to have the power of God is to study Theology. (Cessationists are those who call Jesus a liar by declaring that operations of the Holy Spirit ceased after the Day of Pentecost). What was Jesus' instruction to the early apostles/disciples? Did He instruct them to establish Bible Schools and Seminaries to prepare themselves for the ministry of the word? Even Paul said that what he learned about Christ was not taught him by any man, but he received revelations after spending time with God (Galatians 1:12). It's folly to think that Theology can take the place of the Holy Spirit. Let the blind follow this path. I choose the Scriptures over humanistic theories taught in Bible Schools and Seminaries.
@@paulghencea9037 That's apt! Somehow, they have not been able to use any Scripture to validate their claims that operations of the Holy Spirit ceased after the church was established in the first century. The idea obviously originated with satan because he knows that the church is powerless without the Holy Spirit.
That is what Satan has deceived people who think they follow Christ into thinking is worshiping our Father. How else will he come as Antichrist and so many willingly worship him all the while believing that he is Christ? Remember He comes first and brings peace. Christ comes last and brings a fiery sword and turns the Antichrist into ashes from within. All glory to God and may His will be done.

I think of the Christians in China, they are one of the fastest growing areas of Christianity, yet they are facing a similar situation to the 1st century Christians, word has it that the legal churches are sponsored by their government who only lets pastors say what the government wants to hear (which also means the underground church movement is probably huge as well), and I have heard cases where images of Christ are being replaced with the Chinese leader Xi Jinping

This is definitely convicting and shows how blessed we are today as Christians. On a side note I want to see the church where the service isn’t even an hour long!!! 47 minutes LOL 😂 😂😂😂
So the measure of your faith is how long you sit in your service? It sounds like something you suffer in order to feel holier. What fools! The life of a Christian is just the opposite. @@margaretgrossmeyer2435 I don’t think he was using the length of a sermon as a measuring stick for his faith or holiness. I believe what he is referring to is that most churches today have a countdown timer, letting the worship leaders, preacher, and everyone else involved in the service how much time they have left. There’s nothing initially “wrong” with this but it doesn’t really allow much room for the Holy Spirit to have His way. Compare this to the members of the early church in the New Testament, who would have gatherings for hours on end, sometimes through the night. When your pastor says “quality over quantity” “meditate on 1 verse a day” and you realize it would take 85 years to read the Bible ONCE! No wonder most Christians have no idea what’s going on today. How can we know prophecy and if we don’t read it?!
While that is ridiculous, I understand the principle of going slow at first or during certain seasons. Ppl sometimes try to bite off more than they can chew, get discouraged, then stop studying altogether. Or think they need to watch the clock and take a whole hour, read a whole chapter regardless of length, etc. And when they can't make the time for it, or can't absorb the material, they feel guilty. @@permafrost0979 Read Gen 1:26,1:28, Luke 10:19, Psalm 8:6, Peter 4:11 and Daniel 7:14. When I say "Take dominion" I am referring to the ancient mandate upon the life of those who serve the lord that still stands today. We are to be in the world but not of it. We are supposed to allow God to use us to establish the kingdom of heaven on earth. Hence the prayer of Jesus "on earth as it is in heaven" heaven cannot come and saturate the earth unless it is done through man which has Gods breath. This is why Jesus had to come in the flesh and this is why he gave us the same authority he had in his flesh so that he might still be glorified after his ascension. We are the hands and feet of jesus. When he was on earth he showed a prime example of taking dominion over sickness, poverty, and a host of other things, and we are called to do GREATER works. It will cost you your life. But we are to be a living sacrifice. Holy and pleasing unto him who gave us life. Hope that all makes sense. God bless you!
@@MindYours77 Too bad none of those verses have anything to do with that. That's literally the joke of this video. We aren't called to "take dominion" we are called to preach the gospel. We've been given the message of reconciliation. And Jesus told us in the world we WILL have trouble..that "nothing will harm you" statement was for the specific people he gave that authority too while he was here on earth, and shortly after he ascended when the foundation of the church was being laid. Multiple verses talking about we WILL have trouble, we WILL be persecuted, we WILL have to deny ourselves...etc. yet somehow people take a small handful of words he gave to specific people, rip it away from its context, and think that means we're supposed to have "dominion" over darkness, sickness...etc. The bible doesn't promise that. And Jesus didn't die to change a SINGLE thing about our natural circumstances. He died for our SIN to reconcile us to the Father and told us to spread THAT Good news...not spread the news about promises He never made 👍
I can't believe she's sitting there talking the whole time with a mug of hot coffee and doesn't even offer the first century Christian a glass of clean water to drink.
That’s the modern Christianity for you ( if you can call it Christianity at all). We’re taught to love the world and her glories, accumulation of things is the evidence of God’s favor and approval. Deprivation is a curse on the ungodly. You can’t honestly expect better character from such self saturated believer.
For thematic reasons I would assume, giving the first century one a mug would break some of the sense of them being first century, whereas it first the modern Christian.
I believe that while this has to a degree happened, it is also happening within the entire world, another thing people forget is in the first world if you lack first world things you have just as many problems. Eg you can't get legal documents without an address, your kids will be taken from you if you don't have a mattress for them. You can't get clean water without payment etc. As for the imagined belief old time Christianity was better, I shall point to the hundreds of years of domination, murder and abuses of power found through the middle ages all the way into the 1700s.

Well Done!
this is so good, really convicting
Wow
@@AndrewGiles688 Um huh! For the Protestants, all that's left is pastors/preachers, and for the Catholics, some miscellaneous "new offices." Don't know what ever happened to the "apostles, prophets, and evangelists." I guess God isn't "setting them in the church" anymore!

1st century Christian: "There's lots of persecution, believers are being put to death but God is good."
21st century Christian: "I just got married, we bought a house and our life is great so God is good."

"When has your Christianity actually cost you anything in America?"
-Marcus Rodgers
Marcus Rogers is a heretic he’s the last person I’d talk to about Christianity
@@rebelo2025 why do you say that? It's good to have an opinion, but that doesn't mean you're right.

I’ve disagreed with some things that he says but have really thought he gave good messages at some points and felt moved. I feel like - he is good sometimes but wrong on some things. He’s imperfect and has to be considered and reviewed by the individual. Most preachers are imperfect in some way though. But yeah - some things with him
@@magnificentpup2875 everyone is imperfect. What is perfect is the word of God rightfully divided. People will hate you like they hated Jesus for preaching the truth. All we got to do is preach truth if we look for imperfection we will find it and in the end it measures back to us
Can I just say that what was portrayed as a first century Christian is actually a reality in many places in the world?
Appreciate this!
Yup, Just try to open a Christian church in most Muslim majority countries and see what happens to you.
@Tommy T I hope you’re aware of the diverse climate in most Muslim majority countries. Muslims have to accept and live peacefully with Christian’s and others as they have been since the beginning. There obviously are exceptions. So most churches and synagogues there are doing just fine.
@@hannahkip6310 Yeah it depends on the country. Also India has tens of millions of Christians who are increasingly being persecuted along with Muslims by the rising Hindu nationalist movement.
@@hannahkip6310 Islamic laws and culture are often at odds with Western cultural values. I realize some Muslim countries like Turkey and Indonesia are more tolerant of what you guys offer call Kaffirs or Mushriks. I also know that some of the world's most populous Muslim countries, such as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, vigorously suppress Christianity.
I agree. 🙋🏼♀️✝️🕯🙏
This was very heartbreaking but wonderfully put. I thank you sister for this very convicting message. God Bless you ❤
When your pastor says “quality over quantity” “meditate on 1 verse a day” and you realize it would take 85 years to read the Bible ONCE!
To meditate on one verse a day shouldn't be for the rest of your life, but for a short time as you build up endurance and the ability to understand.
What do you suggest?
Maybe just do both.
A chapter a day.
And meditate/memorize on one verse.
@@SoulDeepZim you can start anywhere or find an outline online. Also, books like "The Bible in 28 days" can be helpful in giving Bible book context.
Read the Bible cover to cover at least once, but you'll get a fresh view on the OT reading again, seeing God never changed his purpose. How can we really study something we only know in part?
I feel like this is also a representation of modern day Christians here and modern day Christians in the Middle East. Where ever there is persecution, there is the Church.
China too
Wow this is so needed! God bless you
The part where the 1st Century Christian was absolutely captured and amazed that we have access to the gospel, and disappointed that we don’t read it, despite it having all the power… that hits deep, thanks for this video, it really shines a new light
On point! 😂 On a serious note, people really take all of this for granted & it’s sad
Everything is happening according to plan...

Thank you for reminding us that we are privileged to have the Word of God and that our daily challenges can never be compared with the persecution of 1st Century Christians
This doesn’t judge me….it makes me judge myself….keep up the good work sis
This is so so accurate. Hilarious yet devastating and terrifying , for we all know what Jesus wants to do with the lukewarm . Well done 🙏🏼
Although this is funny. It’s even more sad this is true, and most do not even understand. More stuff like this is needed.
This was great 👋.
Lord, may we repent of our lukewarm state of mind...
Thanks Melissa this is hilarious and yet sobering because it's very accurate, unfortunately! I appreciate your content, God bless you!
This was great and also edifying. Even though I am not a "health and wealth prosperity gospel" Christian, this makes us realize just how easy we have it and the part about having all the scriptures available to us that early Christians couldn't have and couldn't read if they did, and the fact that I get lazy about reading it daily - I'm ashamed to say, well it really hit home. Thank you.
I've been reading the OT a lot lately. And I'm constantly humbled by how good I have it. And it makes me sad that I complain or think anything I'm dealing with is hard. This video just confirmed what I've been feeling. I feel like I should be suffering more or finding life harder. But I have a house. I have a job. I have food. I have safety. I have everything I need. Why would I be so blessed? :(
(You just gained a follower, by the way.)
the 1st century christian would put 2021 christian to shame very easy no question about it
2021 Christians in the west* there are many Christians today who go through that same type of persecution in the middle East, Africa, China, NK, etc
@@xintimidate Melissa is mainly saying Christians in the USA the born again believer's in those countries you mention they would run rings around the Christians in the USA as well
Amazing. I pray this not only inspires change in me, but change in all of us as a body to advance the Gospel like the ones before us.
Wow, this really was like an invisible sword stabbing my heart... This reminds me of how ungrateful I'm to the Lord most of the time😞 Thank you so much for this reminder, God bless you...
This video was how I was introduced to your channel. I've been watching your channel ever since.
This reveals the condition of our heart and church so well. 😔God remove our heart of stone and give us a heart to obey and follow Him. May we hold true and stand firm to the whole counsel of God without adulteration. If we can't live for Jesus, what makes us think that one we can die for Him! Truly, an eye opening video. Thank you!!
This is so true and we think we are being persecuted because our “rights “ might be taken away. God have mercy on us!
Amen.
if you dont think your rights being taken away arent a form of persecution you need help.they are being taken away so they can imprison kill hunt etc...duuuuhhhh
Taking our rights away definitely opens the door to more intense persecution. But yes, God have mercy on all of us and help us to be ready for what’s to come
@@thegrigs777 the rights are a Christian are nothing. If we are to follow Christ we must die to ourselves every day. If giving a right helps a brother and sister, let us gladly give it away and ask what else we can do.
??? Ummm, that's precisely why rights are important. The end of rights is the beginnings of persecution!
This is humorous in a sad way, and unfortunately describes most modern "Christians. " I'm going to share this with a lot people!
Yup. It is sad.

LOVE. What really impacted me was when she realized we have the Bible at our fingertips! And how we can read it. May we not forget what a treasure we have in our hands!
Hard hitting reality check. Thank you.
I like the part where she says she tries to carve out a few minutes a day of quiet time and then the next sentence references her book club, that Im sure isnt reading the Bible. Too good.
Thank you♥️ We are so blessed. Thinking about what we don't have, instead of grateful for all the blessings we do have. This message brings repentance🙏

Nothing she says is good, that's the point!
Very brilliant and gifted
5:08: "I volunteer and make alot of casseroles." Took me OUT. I can see the mentality of both believers and non-believers in this. Our works don't make us righteous.
"I never thought I'd say this but, I think I have the better deal." That hit. Its time for action. We must take dominion. We must give God what's due His name.
What do you mean by "take dominion".
@@MindYours77 Thank you for explaining.
💪👍😎🙏
He died for our SIN to reconcile us to the Father and told us to spread THAT Good news...not spread the news about promises He never made 👍
“I mean I mostly let my celebrity Pastor read it and tell me things about it”
😄😆😂🤣😅
Of course, because why read it for ourselves...right? 😂
@@kaiyoshiteru1032 What is terrible is that even today in certain countries Christians are being rounded up, tortured, raped, and murdered.

“theology and reading get in the way of my personal relationship with Jesus” LOOOL so accurate unfortunately
What do you mean?
Um... What?

Sad that many don't even open the Scriptures.
One girl I knew said “I don’t read the Bible, I like to have a more personal relationship with God.”
“I mean, theology and reading just gets in the way of my relationship with Jesus.” 😄😆😂🤣😅
Yes! Sadly, some people actually believe that.
Exactly! I hear it said that "we have Jesus we don't need to read the word, the Bible is outdated!" JESUS is the word silly people!! How would be know Him if we didn't have the Bible lol
The irony. Coming out of a mystical phase of my spiritual life, I found that God refused to feed any of my charismatic emotional pleas but was more than happy to point me to several theology books and much-needed Bible readings to the point of uncanniness.
This statement is the hypercharismatic church in a nutshell.
