Funny thing about dot occlusion - back when I still played airsoft (so like 10 years ago) all I and my friends had access to were cheap chinese air gun red dots and they had HORRIBLE illumination, to the point that you HAD to run a cap on the faux eotech/aimpoint to see the dot when playing in the field on a sunny day. We inadvertently trained our eyes to shoot occluded and maintain target focus because of terrible equipment :)

Loving the content lately. The confluence between competitive/recreational shooters, and those with professional military/Leo experience is something that needs to happen and I love that the conversations are candid and public. Also, the fact that Ben has been training with rifle is just scary. And that you already have a new book out, I need to buy it. The way you guys break down things, it can only be an improvement for anybody trying to shoot better

Joel delivered a masterclass on "Give someone enough rope". Had to listen to that podcast twice to truly appreciate it

Thanks for the update on the summit. I was fortunate enough to attend the 2023 summit in Atlanta and it was absolutely incredible. I plan on attending every year from now on. Appreciate what you guys are doing!

I listened to the podcast and Joel was a BEAST !! confident with all the knowledge.
I think it was some of you guys that once said that a Tactical shooters do not know what they do not know. Practical shooters do not know the limit of what they already can not know.

Occluding the dot sends my vision to the dot more than the target. Why am I stupid?

15:35 same here , that’s what really let me down with the training industry regarding the topical name brand. Until I discovered this group of individuals.

Isn't dot occlusion just the old Bindon Aiming Concept that Trijicon used to promote back when they first came out with red dots?

Basically the same “tech” that worked with the old Armson OEGs and Weaver sights. Works fine for pretty much anyone except folks with pronounced astigmatism. If your eyes are super weird shapes, the POI shift from a traditional zero can be huge.
The difference is purpose-BAC was a pushed as a “hack” for using a magnified optics at close range, whereas occluded pistol dot instruction is focused on training binocular target focus. It’s not meant for actual patrol use or carry.

How does someone NOT understand occlusion? Wish I had started doing that when I first started training with dots.

Can't even get firearm insurance in NY at the moment from the bigger providers. Something I would get because it's important but once capitalism gets a hold of it I'm sure it's all downhill form there.
