Mets payroll was $315 million last year, after the Soto signing it’s at $205 million which means they can still spend $110 this offseason to equal last years mark .. they’re not done
You are so right, and they knocked off the Phils last year with a pitching staff of journeymen and reclamation projects. They did not have a legit #1 or #2 pitcher for the entire season. If 'genius" Cohen would have grabbed Flaherty or Snell at before the trade deadline, they would have beaten LA and easily beaten the Yankees (who they went 4-0 against in the regular season and outscored 36-14). Cohen LOST then a WS title last year.
😂😂😂. I think Thomas hasn’t gotten the Memo on who Steve Cohen is? The Mets are not bringing Alonso back???😂😂😂. The Soto signing does not preclude the Pete signing. king 👑 Cohen aka Uncle Steve is a madman. If Stearns gives the recommendation for pete to come back, cohen will open up the check book for him. I see other Mets fans in the comments telling you they aren’t even close to being done spending but I’d like to just give you some numbers on how much Cohen is willing to spend compared to the current Mets payroll. Current Mets payroll $224mil, 2024’s payroll $349mil, 2023’s payroll $375mil, 2022’s payroll $311mil. So as of today Mets to match there lowest payroll the past 4 years still have at the very minimum $87mil to spend in salary this off-season. In my opinion I think Cohen ends up having a payroll much closer to $400mil then $300mil & if that’s the case they easily have $120+mil to spend in salary to hand out for the season. I think they do a lot of work with trades and absorb contracts teams that don’t have money are trying to get off for example Luis Castillo, Dylan Cease etc etc
As a Mets fan, to be fair to the Yanks it wasnt about another $15 mil dollars, Cohen would've outbid them again. Yanks just had a # and once they got there they stopped.
Dude. The Mets don’t have an opt-out after five years. Soto does. So your first point is factually wrong. Your second point is also wrong since the Mets have announced they are going after Alonso. Embarrassing.
@@JayzBeerz why the hell do you think Soto would sign a contact that gave the team “all the power.” Not only are you factually wrong, your entire concept of how baseball contract negotiations is so bizzare I don’t even know where to start with you.
Why do you think Alonso is gone? We need a 1B. He wants to stay. We have like $80 mil left. His market isn't exactly robust with big bidders coming in. Unless somebody blows the Mets out of the water he probably prefers to stay.
I'd still like to see what other moves the Mets make. They need another big bopper to protect Soto, to me Alonso is a must resign for them.im not 100 % sold on Vientos yet. They need about 3 more starters, I'm sorry Peterson, Sendai if healthy, Megill, Montes, and Holmes/ Manea dont do it for me. They should be in on big relievers too, not injury reclamation projects like Loasaiga. Right now on paper even with Soto if they get no more pitchers, no Alonso they're looking at Wild card wins amount at best.
Philadelhia better realize we have a bad lousy. GM president. He has locked this team on expensive contacts. For. DH types. Bad starter no center fielder no left fielder. Need at least 3 arms in pen phillies are older. The mets are the team to beat. A bad. GM. He will do very little in off season trades
I wouldn’t be so sure. Mets were supposed to have a rebuild year last year. But David Stern made some great moves getting them to the nlcs. With Soto signed, the Mets can take another leap this year.
I’m curious if the Phillies ever actually met with Soto or made any kind of offer or if some reports were just baseless rumors. Here’s a thought; send Harper back to the OF where he’s needed and sign Polar Bear to play 1st 🤷🏻♂️
Lol, as others said. Mets still have a ton of money to play with. I'd be surprised if Pete doesn't come back. Along with the tribal chief as our ace. And probably a few other bullpen arms.
