    I'm so glad I finally run into a proper demo of the Engl Cabloader. The first 7 videos I clicked on where guys who only did limited death metal powerchord stuff. Finally a guy who does some picking and classic rock style.

    when i got the engl cab loader, at first it just sounded alright into beyerdynamic headphones. then i added a preamp pedal to the chain and it sounded better. however to make it sound amazing i use the king in yellow by Lichtlaerm Audio… 3 pedals

    Hey, not just a great review, but a good tutorial actually! 🤘
    I know the video is out for some time now, but can I have a few questions? You didn’t really cover the functions of the four custom IR slots. I would guess that using custom IRs disengages the micing and postitioning functionalities, at least it works like that in similar IR pedals. Could you confirm this theory, because this is where this pedal really shines. So loosing this function would be a real bummer, as many reviews’ conclusion is that however the factory IR models are usable, getting downloaded ones sound better. And if this is the case here too, then the mic tweaking functionality would kind of lose its point. So in your opinion how the factory IR models hold up against custom pro IR models downloaded from the internet?
    Another part of my question is that do you (or anyone) happen to know how this, or similar pedals would work with a Sansamp Tri-AC? I really like its analog circuitry, versatality and oldschool-ness, but I really feel it could use something like this Engl Cabloader, or the NUX Solid Studio, with power amp and cab simulation. The catch is that the Tri-AC already has its own (bit outdated) cab sim built in, which cannot be switched off. So I’m wondering how would it work with an IR loader. On paper it’s specified as a preamp pedal, but the built-in cab sim raises some questions.
    Thank for the answers! I’m in-between buying the this pedal or the NUX Solid Studio. You mentioned in a comment that the Engl has a better overall quality, but if I’m gonna use downloaded IR models, I feel like the great extra mic tweaking functions of the Engl won’t make a difference (at least if that’s true what I’m suspecting). Also the drive option of the NUX’s poweramp section is something I’d like to see on the Engl, which on the other hand has a ground lift function that would be welcomed to see on the NUX. 😀
    Thanks for the answers!

      Hey man! Thanks for checking out the video. Let me answer your questions in reverse:
      - I’ve never played ANY Sansamp. Contacted Tech 21 plenty of times to no avail. Is there REALLY no option to bypass the cab sim? That’s a bummer if so. I would assume you’d have phasing issues.
      - unfortunately I won’t be able to test this to give you a better answer as I solid the CabLoader to a friend last year who needed it. BUT…based on experience with other IR loader pedals like it: loading custom IRs negates some of the other features, not all. For example, IRs are essentially recordings of tones run thru speaker cabs using specific microphones. Place an SM57 recorded IR thru a filtering effect designed to sound like a u87 would not be ideal. But I’ve used something like Power Amp simulation and that can be a fun extra EQ stage.
      Sorry I can’t be of more help

    I've been using the Radial JDX Direct Drive and it doesn't even compare to what this ENGL can do. Gotta get me one of these!

      not familiar with the Radial so I looked it up...its'...wow...severely lacking as an amp sim

      @@SeanPierceJohnson Yep. And the Radial was $200. It had 5 settings but only 2 were usable. I didn't know about the ENGL amp sim till recently.

      well now you know and I highly recommend it! there's some other options out there as well, but this one is IMO the most robust of the "simple" cab sim pedals

    I have a question. Its possible to connect the pedal on the input of an amplifier, into the Power amp in or send/ return ? My doubt is : in these situations the processed sound of the cabloader goes to the speakers of any amp like a pedal would do?

    • @SeanPierceJohnson
      @SeanPierceJohnson  3 роки тому +1

      there is a THRU jack on the pedal that should take care of exactly what you're looking to do.
      you can go out of the TRHU jack to the front of an amp and not feed the Speaker Sims to the amp. With an FX loop take a cable from the FX Loop's Send jack, connect whatever pedals you want in the FX loop and then have the Cab Loader at the end of the chain and go out of the THRU jack on the Cab Loader and then into the FX Loop Return jack. You'll then be able to send the Speaker Sim to the DI and not the power amp.

    Great video! Nice pedal. It needs a Powerful preamp like an overdrive?which do you prefer from this cabloader, nux solid studio, two notes cab m and mooer radar??thanks!!

      i haven't played the Two Notes or Mooer Radar so I won't say those are better or worse.
      The ENGL is higher quality than the Solid Studio but their feature set is very similar. But I like the refined Speaker sims and mic simulation in the CabLoader.

    Hey. Im thinking between this and iridium. do you think Engl with preamp would be better solution?

    • @SeanPierceJohnson
      @SeanPierceJohnson  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Rezo! First off, just want to say thanks for watching. Let's get to your questions:
      Unfortunately, I don't have any first-hand experience with the Iridium. I am familiar with it and it's features though. At the end of the day, I suppose the real issue is going to be whether you want Amp Sim AND Cab Sim in ONE PEDAL or if you don't mind them being separate.
      Keep in mind though that the Iridium's speaker sims are IRs that can't be edited outside of changing the file or loading another one onto the pedal. The speaker simulations in the CabLoader (although predominantly ENGL cabs) are all customizable on the pedal with the Mic Position and Power Amp sims.
      To sum it up: I don't think the Iridium is a bad option, but if you want something more tweakable the CabLoader and a preamp will probably suit you better.
