To call Whitlock “a keyboard player” is like saying Basquiat did some graffiti. Whitlock is one of the Zeligs of rock. He was there for some of the most important moments in that period, was a first class songwriter and a hell of a vocalist-and he was one of the premier B3 players of all time. If he had done nothing more than write and sing one of the best songs on Layla, his place in music history would be secure. He did much much more.
I've been watching Bobby's channel for the past year and I've learned so much about this period and his involvement in some of the greatest music around. I also bought his autobiography which gives detail about all the tracks on ATMP. I did a video recently about Bobby on my channel if you haven't seen it. I really don't understand why people who are involved in something, and are still alive to talk about it, don't get interviewed for these reissues. He could provide so much info on this album I would think it's a no-brainer. All through his videos his memories have been consistent and I believe what he has to say and it's interesting stuff. Glad you are enjoying his channel as well.

Hi Joe. Initially I was going to steer away from this Bobby Whitlock thing. But I watched some of the interviews with him and learned stuff about his contributions that I didn’t know about. All I know is that he played on the album and that he was part of Derek & The Dominos. I did enjoy this video about the Bobby Whitlock topic. I also thank John Heaton for that video. Take care Joe.

An interesting fact about George Harrison that often gets overlooked is George’s love of George Formby, he was a member of his society convention since 1961, also he used to go to meet up’s of George Formbys society convention. Formby was a huge UK star in the 1930’s and 1940’s as an actor, comedian, singer songwriter and playing the ukelele!

You're right about there always being something new to learn about Beatles history or in this case solo-Beatles history. How many other bands have this kind of treasure trove? The Beatles is the gift that keeps on giving. A good sentiment in the video too.
I discovered Bobby Whitlock's channel a few weeks ago. There are video's in which he talks at great length about the All Things Must Pass sessions, but aside from that he's a mine of information about all sorts of stuff in that era. Also an entertaining speaker and all around nice guy. 💖
The info Whitlock gave the Harrison archivist on who played what apparently contradicts the information on new liner notes. The deleted video was Whitlock and CoCo going through the notes he took while listening to the new mixes of ATMP. Here’s the fact: Harrison kept the tapes rolling through the recording process. That’s how we got the Apple Jam disc. Bottom line: The truth is on the tapes for everyone to hear. My favorite Bobby Whitlock revelation: The 4 Gnomes on the cover are there to represent the 4 Beatles lying around doing nothing. Also, the LP is meant to be played and listened to LOUD from inside Friar Park or another suitable castle-like structure of your choice!

There is a YT “George Harrison - All Things Must Pass at 50 (Radio Documentary)” by music and art and Bobby Whitlock is interviewed among others. It’s my understanding that he mentioned who reached out to him from the GH estate (not Dhani or Olivia) among other things on the video that was taken down. Bobby and Coco said they will upload the video again in August or September. I’m glad you mentioned him on your channel. He deserves the recognition.
I found Bobby Whitlock's UA-cam Channel about 2 months ago. I didn't know about him until I saw one of his videos listed in my 'related' list of videos. He's a real down to Earth kind of guy. Someone that you could sit down and drink a beer with.
There is no disputing Bobby Whitlock's involvement in All Things Must Pass. In fact George Harrison for the 30 year release wrote thanks to Bobby right after Eric Clapton. Bobby Whitlock and the other Dominos were the core band for the record. Sadly, the Harrison estate was caught with egg on their face and made them cease and dissist and pulled a couple of the most detailed segments off utube. As John Heaton said, Bobby is humble, credible and was George's friend so why wouldn't you want his input? Money, in the costs to hold up production and supplement the liner notes. George would have wanted it right. Why? Because Bobby isn't at the forefront of rock stars on the Business side. Bobby was in his 20s was sober and a skilled musician that was in EVERY session. His input would have been key. Bobby has spent the majority of his life being written out of rock history. First Delaney minimized his contribution in Delaney and Friends. Then the industry says Duane Allman was the key to Derek and the Dominos when it was an Eric Clapton and Bobby Whitlock project and Duane was brought in as a session player. Easy to build up a dead guy. The industry can spin it how they want but Bobby Whitlock is one of the greatest HammonB3 players ever and a great songwriter with the voice of an angel. Watch his channel and learn the truth. Read his biography too. He has been to hell and back and is a true rock and roll star who speaks the truth only so people know, not for money or fame.
Bobby ain't lying bout any of his involvement in ATMP. His recollections haven't wavered one bit and he's been sharing them repeatedly for years. What a shame that in remembering George Harrison in 2021 I smell a dead corporate rat.
He was asked to take them down because he had a copy of of the new album sent to him digitly, and they did'nt want him to discuss the new cut.Although i think it would have helped sales.
I think 3rd-party fan-produced inserts will surface to correct the errors. Dhani dropped the ball on this one, but he's just a "kid", it seems. He never really followed the saga of that Layla/ATMP period.
No. Bobby indicated that no proper credit was given to musicians who worked on the original album; whatever is on those liner notes was incorrect. Looks like the GH Estate didn't like the controversy and may have "asked" (read: via lawyers) him to take it down. Above all, where is the need for GH Estate to issue another anniversary set? They already had sets out for the 30th, 40th anniversaries. They also priced this one (deluxe box) at nearly a $1000. George left behind a fortune worth $400+ Million to Olivia and Dhani Harrison; do they really need the money from an anniversary set? Greed? I dunno.
Thanks for your video. I also saw John Heaton's. You both raise interesting issues. I wonder what motive the Harrison estate would have had for downgrading Bobby's involvement in ATMP. It's probably most likely an unfortunate oversight that they didn't seek his input. By the way, I'm looking forward to getting the album next month.
They wouldn’t of forgotten about Bobby Whitlock intentionally. He’s probably been overlooked because the focus is on George Harrison. John Lennon’s estate has focused on all musicians involved in the reissued plastic Ono band and Imagine ultimate mixes boxsets. Paul McCartney has also included all musicians who have worked with him on all 13 releases of his archives collection boxsets. One thing I will say about the Uber boxset is that a lot of fans have preordered this at great expense. Maybe a signed letter of acknowledgement placed into each crate from Olivia & Dhani would be a reasonable thing to do. Not a personal message but just something thanking George’s fans for their solid dedication to his music.
I find it hard to believe that Bobbys' invitation to contribute was simply an embarrassing oversight on the part of the Harrison Estate. There has to be more to it.Both Olivia and Danni would surely have been aware of how important Bobby's recollections would have been to all the liner notes.I sincerely hope the estate at least goes some way to rectify this before the final release date..then again, it'll probably bump up the retail price even further to compensate for the additional production costs...oh dear, what a sorry state of affairs..very dissapointing.

HI JOE GREAT VIDEO ON BOBBY WHITLOCK AND THE ALL THINGS MUST PASS ALBUM. IT WAS VERY INTERESTING. HE SURE WOULD HAVE HAD A LOT OF STORIES TO TELL . TAKE CARE.
It's pretty clear to me that the Harrison estate simply opted not to get input from all the surviving players. As far as the CD/blu-ray book, they didn't talk to Ringo, Klaus Voorman, Dave Mason, Alan White, Gary Brooker... Debate that choice all you want, but to suggest anyone was left out maliciously seems unfounded. And while I'm grateful for the insights we have from Bobby Whitlock, I also think it's reasonable not to take any single individual's memories as gospel truth. Actually, I was pretty surprised the POB book included seemingly everyone down to the engineers and office staff. It struck me as unusual and generous. Although the Harrison demos and outtakes have more replay value for me personally, I think the Lennon releases have spoiled us to a certain extent for packaging and presentation.
Bobby stated his opinion about the new stripped away version of the album . He felt they got carried away with the removal of layers of echo and unfortunately removed some of the instrumentation. Keep in mind he was referring to the vinyl version not the digital version. I heard the digital Spotify version which is fine through my Bluetooth speaker. Apparently it was when he listened to the actual album he had a issue with the stripped down mix. He has a right to his opinion as we all are. But apparently they called in their lawyers and threats may or may not have been made and that is when their UA-cam videos on the album were taken down.
I saw a couple of videos on Bobby’s channel. I also didn’t know he was involved that much which was in interesting. I believe he should’ve got recognized on the 50th anniversary credits.
How the Harrison estate treated Bobby Whitlock and downplayed his contributions to ATMP is a disgrace. I have no idea why they would do that. Maybe there was a fall-out between Harrison and Whitlock at some point.
I saw the video in question before it was taken down. The Harrison Estate had given him a download of the deluxe edition, so he got to hear the sessions and demo's, and also the remixes. After he'd listened to it all, he posted a video about his thoughts and memories upon hearing the sessions. It was a little bit spoilery- I think the Harrisons may have asked him to take it down merely because he said too much about what's on it. Bobby and Coco in a subsequent video said they'd put it back up once the album was out. I've been enjoying watching their UA-cam channel lately. Bobby has a lot to say, and Coco is great at steering the conversation.

As for ATMP, if this is the quality of bonus material from his earliest album, then I have high hopes for future Album sets and beyond!!
Hold on, hold on, everybody. Please remember that Olivia and Dhani were not there in 1970. This is too big a project to do by themselves. Their people may have underestimated the fan’s expectations. Unless there are hidden agendas, I would guess this is just an overlooked angle though a major one. If in 2022, a reunion we’re held at FPSHOT and all attendees interviewed, and made available on media…..I’d buy. Wouldn’t you?
Two things: 1) Whitlock is interesting and a good guy but he doesn't say much new about ATMP. He openly admits that they were just working hard, focused on the record everyday. Does that make for a valuable information in a reissue? Not in my opinion. Also, keep in mind that reissue producers want new information. Bobby talks a lot about ATMP in his videos and has done so for a while. Most good reissue producers will worry that fans don't want information they can get readily from other sources. 2) Whitlock had new audio and apparently used some clips, which is likely the reason the Harrison people asked him to take the video down. None of this strikes me as controversial except on a very very very slow news day.
Surprised that Whitlock was passed over? Maybe he and George could have had some kind of falling out? Who knows. At least the Paul boxes always reach out to all living participants.
That’s interesting. I’ve read that in their UA-cam video, Bobby Whitlock and his wife went on a 15 minute rant absolutely trashing the ATMP release, to the point that it was unprofessional and embarrassing in tone. That was after they’d been given a free copy of the release (and I believe) asked not to discuss any details about the album until its official release. Maybe he decided afterwards that his reaction was too negative and removed it himself. If what I read is true, the video’s removal makes sense.
Bobby mentioned tbat he will re-uload the video that he was asked to take down after the boxset is released. From my understanding Bobby received a digital copy of ATMP and that he was premature talking about the tracks. That is why the Harrison Estate asked Bobby to take down the video.
I think you're right.. the only "controversy " is he talked about it before it came out..I really don't think anybody is trying to undermine Whitlock or make him irrelevant. From watching all his videos, I know he took issue with others accounts of playing on that album.. guys like Frampton, who had a great career after that, said he really didn't remember what songs he played on it.. who knows, it was 50 yrs ago!
Let's face it, the original credits were never that clear on who exactly did what on each track. A bit like some of the Steely Dan albums. By the way, I have just been listening to Bobby Whitlock's take on the new remix and he thinks it's CRAP!
These Bobby Whitlock videos on you tube doesn't inform new facts. I have his autobiography he put out in 2011 that he dedicates a chapter on All Things Must Pass. He goes in descibes basically what he talks about on his videos & a track per track listing of all the musicians & what instruments thay played on them. The Harrison camp don't even have to interview him if they have the damn book to gain knowledge of the sessions. John Heaton I think didn't even mention about his autobiography. Does he know it exists?

For more on this, I refer you to The Guitar Historian.
Bobby mentioned tbat he will re-uload the video that he was asked to take down after the boxset is released. From my understanding Bobby received a digital copy of ATMP and that he was premature talking about the tracks. That is why the Harrison Estate asked Bobby to take down the video.
Thanks.
I think you're right.. the only "controversy " is he talked about it before it came out..I really don't think anybody is trying to undermine Whitlock or make him irrelevant. From watching all his videos, I know he took issue with others accounts of playing on that album.. guys like Frampton, who had a great career after that, said he really didn't remember what songs he played on it.. who knows, it was 50 yrs ago!
did you watch the video with him on his B3 organ that he used on all things.....let it roll
Let's face it, the original credits were never that clear on who exactly did what on each track. A bit like some of the Steely Dan albums.
By the way, I have just been listening to Bobby Whitlock's take on the new remix and he thinks it's CRAP!
I think he's biased.
@@MeanMrMayo Both him AND his musician/record engineer wife?
These Bobby Whitlock videos on you tube doesn't inform new facts. I have his autobiography he put out in 2011 that he dedicates a chapter on All Things Must Pass. He goes in descibes basically what he talks about on his videos & a track per track listing of all the musicians & what instruments thay played on them. The Harrison camp don't even have to interview him if they have the damn book to gain knowledge of the sessions. John Heaton I think didn't even mention about his autobiography. Does he know it exists?
