There's a general misunderstanding. Dr Who wasn't made for any gender or race - it was made for nerds. If the BBC really wanted Dr Who to take off, they would have pandered to east Asians, who have a high percentage of nerds. Now Dr Who has surrendered its nerdy edge for mainstream identity politics. Sadly no, it ended BEFORE that. IMO the last decent season was the 2nd to last season with the 12th Dr...With Clara it was still a good show...the addition of "Me" began the slide downhill. The final season with Peter Capaldi was the END.

I tuned back in to see David Tennant again, as he is my #2 favorite ( #1 is obviously Matt Smith), and had high hopes for the 15th Dr....but sadly I think that now the show is OVER....

To put this into some sort of statistic. Across the whole country only 2.4 million people watched Doctor Who. Jinx says for every 1 old fan we lost, we'll get 3 more. Stats:

Some 165,000 people identify as "other" sexual orientations.
AND 262,000 people (0.5%) said their gender identity was different from their sex registered at birth.
So based on that, either every person in the country who identifies as different from their birth sex will need to become a fan to get anywhere near the millions who have left since the wokeness started to invade the writing rooms.
Actually, if you're taking that quote from the last national census, even that 0.5% figure needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. If memory serves, when they dug deeper into that figure, a very large percentage of that .5% were not born in this country and didn't have English as their first language... That's an incredibly strange coincidence, so the likely conclusion is that many people answering yes to the statement probably didn't understand the question. The actual number is probably much lower.

If you honestly think most people waited for 6.20pm on Saturday evening (which is the only viewing that the 2.4 million comprises) to watch it live, when everybody knew it had been put on iPlayer at midnight on the evening before, then I don't know what to say to you.

I never had a problem with Capt Jack because the fact that Capt Jack would sleep with anything wasnt the main point of the story, it was just a part of the character, not the only thing that the character had. Never even really had a problem with Clara, my problem didnt start until the show's entire point became to push social justice down our throats rather than having an entertaining story with the first female doctor played by jodi whittaker
This shows how relative opinions can be. I remember thinking that the gay references around Captain Jack were far too numerous for a show which was not about being gay. Someone on Twitter called it a "gay rights show" back in 2005. To the Classic Who fans the reboot contained a high number of gay references. There was Adric, but that could have been a rumour.

The oroginal headline of that article was "sorry straight white men, doctor who was never made for you." They changed it to "just for you" after the blacklash, not that it made it much better.

When they disrespected William Hartnell in one of the Doctor Who special, treating his character as a racist, misogynist, and a homophobe, I swore never to watch the Doctor again in this woke form. I now only rewatch anything from the first 7 Doctors and I’m happier for it

@@nhmooytis7058 Waris Hussein, the director of the first ever episode of DW was (is) gay. John Nathan-Turner who reinvented Doctor Who after Tom Baker left and ran the show through the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctor eras was also gay.

Considering that Dr. Who is locked behind a Disney + paywall in North America and therefore is not available to most of the potential viewers, most people there do not watch it.
Not that many watching it here in the UK either these days. The most insane thing about this is that it was broadcast just before Eurovision, which (for some reason that I've never been able to fathom) has one of the biggest viewership ratings of any show in the world, so the weather excuse is not in the least bit credible
Dr Who doesn't do entertainment anymore, it just does preaching "You will like this content!"

I’m gay and I want doctor who to go back to being stories about a madman in a box. I don’t want representation, I don’t want diverse voices. I want good stories without any political messaging.
Most shows still have straight white males as the lead or one of the main leads, get over yourself… if a main character is gay or a person of colour, or god forbid female and the show/story is entertaining, fun, interesting, does it really matter?

It is the shows that have these main characters that has terrible writing and the people in the show get used to bash the rest of society on how evil and bigoted we all are but then ignoring their own bigotry because they are in the "minority" so they can not do no wrong.

Everything in my childhood has been destroyed by modern audiences. No one in the entertainment buisness can produce new content. This generation has no new ideas.What's sickening is the fact that all new stuff is so focused on identity politics, they forgot how to write good stories or develope new cultural genre. At least I had video games with my son, but now that is also forcing change. Feeling like hot cattle prod is being shoved down my throat.

Kid, I've had to deal with this since the Moffar era, since Rose left and Martha arrived. People don't like change, it has always been like that and it will always be. And if I've learned anything with RTD it's that their seasons start out cheesy fun but then turn into serious depressing.

Even in that scene in Star Beast, everything was handled as "no big deal" and they quickly moved on with the plot. Something that would have been worse in the Chibnall era.

I don't think they even CARE if anybody watches it. It's just a VEHICLE that allows them to get NEWS STORIES like this one, where they can verbally lash out at people who don't agree with them... and get away with it.... repeatedly. I think those stories ARE "the point". The shows are just another way to pay for MEDIA attention.

The problem with 'the message' is that it now takes up more of the program than the actual story. It's like watching a PL match where players (not Joey Barton obviously) spend 70 minutes discussing why women's football should get equal coverage and the remaining 20 minutes are players half-heartedly kicking a ball about.
Teacher here. School can't always be fun, but at least I have awesome memories of watching _Dr. Who_ at lunch with students. That era ended when Capaldi came in. It just wasn't the same, anymore. This was a show that I could share with kids that was wholesome, and fun. Decorating for Christmas was even more enjoyable with the Christmas episodes playing. I sure miss those days.
Used to be nice before the likes of Capaldi told us that historical Britain wasn't really white. As if being white was a bad thing. Very classy.

Peter Capaldi was the best Doctor and each of his seasons had several episodes that were peak Dr Who. You knew that if one week was disappointing chances are the following week there was a decent chance it would come good again.
The issue is that Capaldi deserved consistent, good writing but they kept bringing in third-rate, token writers to write the 'in-between' episodes. Now it seems every episode is an 'in-between' episode with no hope that they are bumps in the road, it IS what we have tolerate now.

Yes, I'm happy to draw the line in the sand. If Russell T Davies is so keen to put the show he successfully resurrected back into the grave it had been in before he came along in 2005 and revived it, then I'm happy to go back to accepting only things that happened between 1963 and 1989 as canon.

The only problem I have with the recent episodes is the stupid dance number at the end.
Jack worked because despite being a hard flirt, it wasn't about his sexuality. He didn't go around making it his identity. He was a fun character that happened to be very opened to anyone to flirt with.
Then as you listed it got terrible.
That happen only in Torchwood and make him a psycho killer.
Jack also worked because he kinda represented humanity through the lens of immortality. He's been around for so long that it kinda makes sense that he'd be a bit hedonistic. He also didnt shit talk people for not being omnisexual iirc.

It's times like this I wish it was in the public domain like other franchises. Yeah, some fans would make stupid stuff for the sake of it, but a lot of them would help make it better. Because they are fans and fans generally don't like to see their favorite franchises suck, so they try harder. Just like you see with game mods that end up being better than official developers.
