Well done Tino, a useful video. As you say, you should not pressure wash teak decks as it raises the grain and thins the planks. Suggest you should call the Fugue caulking as a more understandable English word.
Thank you Tino! Excellent video on yet another project I want to do on my BavCruiser33. I hope I have as much patience as you, it does looks a bit tedious.
Now you are busy with your seat, maybe you should make it also floatable. When the original seat dumps into the water it will sink. If you glue with sikaflex under the seat a foam layer of the size of te seat, it will float when it falls in the water and you csn recover it without damage. New one costs like 700 euros. The cutting of the foam you can do with a wire and a small 12 v battery. Greetz, Paul
Yes I know they sell the helmsman seats at SVB and also know a lot of people drop them overboard. Maybe a good idea to apply someting there is keeping the seat floating in the water :)
Hej Tino!
Her i USA er Sikkens Cetol populær.
Hi Tino, I wanna ask 2 questions: 1.After you apply SIS 440, I think you pressurize on it with your finger (etc.) to lay down caulking properly between teak layers? 2.How long you wait to detach the masking tapes after applying SIS 440? (I think, if you detach while caulking is not totaly dried, it smudges and makes teaks dirty a lot.) Actually I wonder if you try to detach them (such as) after 24 hours, do they get sticked SIS 440 not to detach smoothly and you have to cut them with knife in the straight line? Thanks. Sedat DEMİR
When the SIS 440 was applyed I smoothed it over with a spatula, so lightly it was not pushed down too much. The masking tape was removed around 30 min after the SIS 440 was applyed but don't think it is necessary to apply tape, only in the edge between the gelcoat and the teak.
@@twiper thanks for your reply. I plan to use masking tape on all of the teaks lest the surface get dirt of SIS 440? (Of course it is possible to sand the dirts by grinder, but the layer thickness of the teak is getting thin each time you grind.) If I wait long enough for SIS 440, then I pull the tapes, what will happen? Can I detach the masking tape off the SIS 440 easily or the masking tape and SIS 440 get sticky stiffly?
@@sedatdemir3340 If the masking tape sits until the SIS 440 is dry I think it would be difficult to remove. The teak wood is very hard and you won´t sand much away when sanding the surface. It is also possible to remove the excess caulking with a multicutter so you don't remove any wood, then sand the rest with some fine sandpaper to remove any black spots from the caulking. Check out the fein multicutter here : ua-cam.com/video/TaRlSEGhBXk/v-deo.html
Tino,, great videos, could you please talk about your auto helm system and show the components please. ALSO, I have the same boat in THAILAND, you’re welcome to join me for sailing if you’re in Bangkok. Keep up the great videos. Kind regards.
simply thank you Tino for this new tuto

Great video Tino, really informative and well put together:)
Thanks Tino, for this video! Have the same problem on my bav 30 with the teak.
Yes I know it's a well known problem on a lot of boats, but think it is mainly due to improper maintenance.

The hard part is to remove the old caulking, think a long stretch is more easy to repair.

@@twiper Friend of mine Eric applied the foam under his seat (its about 6 cm thick foam) and dropped it in the water for a test and floated.

Super :) Ja en af de grunde til at jeg laver videoerne er også for at hjælpe med at løse de problemer mange mennesker har.

Hi Tino,
Could you please edit these comments in English? I read all of them, and get some notes :)
Thanks a lot.
Hi, what is the width of each groove between each teak plank? 3mm? 4mm? Or 5mm? Thank you
The English word "fugue" stands for a piece of music (from J.S. Bach for example), "(face) joint" ist the correct term in this case;-)...

Yes I'll make a video regarding the auto helm system. And yes I'll swing by if I'm in Bangkok, I will try to contact you if so :)
