The English words are somewhere, I remember reading them but somehow it is nicer in German. The firm in the comments, Fury, was on TV this week. I only watched where the young girl sang Maria but it was nothing compared with Sissel!!
This series of concerts was one of the highlights of my 21 years in the Tabernacle Choir. We spent 5 wonderful days with Sissel and at the end, tears filling the eyes of even the men, we sang God Be With You Till We Meet Again, just for her. I’ll treasure that memory forever.
Lee Zurligen. What a wonderful experience. The Tabernacle's music is some of the finest I have heard and much released by Brigham Young University is also of superior quality.
Well, Catherine, fancy meeting you here? Thanks for Introducing me to this “ beautiful “ song. I got the lyrics to study the “ story” behind the words in English. Sissel, was “ stunning “ and this is on my List. For plenty more views. 🌷Stan
I stood only 25 feet or so from her as an usher in the LDS Conference when this was recorded. It was as though she was auditioning for a place in the Celestial Kingdom above. This leaves no doubt as to why President Hinckley treasured her concert above all others. She captivates as no other soloist in the world can or ever will do. She is simply Irresistible.
I feel so upset that someone should be so upset. I don’t want her to be unhappy. I don’t want anyone to be unhappy. I love everyone I’ve always said it and I always mean it. If I miss lead anyone I sincerely apologize so sorry God bless.
My mother introduced this piece to me when I was quite young. She used to play the accompaniment on piano and I would play the melody on my flute. Ah, the memories!
I haven't heard this since I sang it with my mother accompanying me 50 plus years ago. I first heard it as child when my Aunt Loretto sang it, again with my mother at the piano. It is such a sweet lullabye to the Baby Jesus, or about Mary singing to him. This lady does it perfectly, purely, without drama which there should never be. It is simple and pure and needs no adornment.
I stumbled upon this absolutely beautiful song a couple of years ago, after trying to figure out what the piano tune was being played and sung to in a scene from a recent world war two movie about a tank crew, this heart-string performance in particular now will always be a reminder of my Grandson's first Christmas. He runs around a lot more now than he did when he was tiny and swaddled. I will always have this tune to remind me of the first time i held him in my arms, thank you Sissel. x
One of the most beautiful Christmas songs...ever....it touches my soul...still an amazing beautiful lullaby and the older I get, the more it touches my heart and soul…my eyes are filled with tears and joy… merry Christmas to all of you…❤
With the human voice you can focus on technical brilliance, dramatic dynamism or lyrical loveliness. After a lifetime of seeking out the first two, I want to finish it listening to lyrical loveliness... and this singer has it.
Im a mad techno head and i truely believe that this is the most beautiful songs ive ever had the pleasure to listen to. Purity and innocence radiates from every note. Its perfect in every sense of the word
Tusen hjertelig takk.
Thanks for posting! This is absolutely beautiful. I have chills through my whole body - what a beautiful voice and tender interpretation of this song! :)
Heartfilling😥at it's best...just love her😘her voice is that lovely and warm...but: the choir is also very very good and tender in their Parts 👍sorry my english is not the best but i think you'll understand....
Two things are incredible: First, the hauntingly beautiful interpretation. Second, the utter negligence of mentioning the composer's name of this marvelous song - Max Reger!
I love this song, i am a tenor and i did it for my Grade 5 Australian Music Exam! I love how she has a little giggle at 2:04 at the choirs dodgy pronouciation!!
Beautiful! This is one of my ABRSM Grade 5 songs (I'll be singing in English - unfortunately). I wish I could sing like this - I'd pass with a distinction :)
Here is a slightly better English translation: Mary sits in the rose grove Rocking her child, Jesus While softly through the leaves Flows a warm summer breeze. And at her feet sings A colorful little bird: "Sleep, child, my sweet Drift off to sleep Precious your smile Precious your pleasure in slumber. Lay your weary little head Upon your mother's breast. Sleep, child, my sweet Drift away into sleep"
It is widely sung in English as well: Amidst the roses Mary sits, and rocks her Jesus child. While among the treetops, Blows the breeze so warm and mild. And soft and sweetly, Sings a bird upon the bough, Ahhh, baby, dear one, Slumber now. Happy is Thy laughter, Holy is thy silent rest, Lay thy head in slumber, Fondly on Thy mother's breast. Ahhh, baby, dear one, Slumber now.
An operatic voice is highly trained, but that doesn't make it a better or greater voice. Sissel's voice is not only angelic , but is very melodious. That I don't hear in many crossover or operatic singers.
Credit should be given to the composer who is Max Reger (though he borrowed the beginning of "Resonet in laudibus"). It would also be appropriate to mention the arranger.
Sissel married her partner Ernst Ravnaas in a private ceremony in Hov church in Norway on August 13th. No guests were invited to this ceremony which were held secretly. Our congratulations goes to the newly married couple.
To the comment about her "chuckling" because the women's German pronunciation.....I've heard them live, singing in German. Trust me. They know how to sing in German. Enjoy!
Laura Walton I lost my mother not long ago. Mom had a beautiful coloratura soprano voice much like Sissel's. You describe her singing just the way that my mother sang and as she explained to me that a soprano should sound. The highest notes are hit softly and the notes are pure, smooth and without vibrato. This also was about 50 years ago. Another beautiful version of this piece is on the CD of the Christmas concert performed at Carnegie Hall with Kathleen Battle (Lyric/Coloratura Soprano) and Frederica von State (Mezzo Soprano), conducted by Andre Previn. The ladies' harmony is beautiful. I found the link: ua-cam.com/video/Jo3WGt2Kmro/v-deo.html
Check out fantastic video by Sissel ua-cam.com/video/Q8ZHvw4Lfdw/v-deo.html

Wunderschönen und engelsgleich gesungen, herzlichen Dank ❤❤❤💐🎄🕯🕯🎄💕❤❤❤❤🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵💕
The most beautiful Mariä Wiegenlied I have ever heard. So peaceful! Her voice melts my heart.
My God she radiates true beauty and warmth when she sings
This series of concerts was one of the highlights of my 21 years in the Tabernacle Choir. We spent 5 wonderful days with Sissel and at the end, tears filling the eyes of even the men, we sang God Be With You Till We Meet Again, just for her. I’ll treasure that memory forever.
It’s truly incomparable.
Lee Zurligen. What a wonderful experience. The Tabernacle's music is some of the finest I have heard and much released by Brigham Young University is also of superior quality.
What can one say except thank you? The result of your work and dedication is a thing of true beauty.
With music like this here on earth, how wonderful will the music be in heaven.
So gentle, so sweet, so Sissel!
Well, Catherine, fancy meeting you here?

So privileged! I used to usher at music concerts when I was a (very broke) student of music just to be able to listen to these wonderful performances.
I feel so upset that someone should be so upset. I don’t want her to be unhappy. I don’t want anyone to be unhappy. I love everyone I’ve always said it and I always mean it. If I miss lead anyone I sincerely apologize so sorry God bless.
I just don’t like to see someone so upset I still want you
Sissel, amo sua voz! DEUS lhe abençoe!❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
My mother introduced this piece to me when I was quite young. She used to play the accompaniment on piano and I would play the melody on my flute. Ah, the memories!
Sie ist wunderschön und voller Talente.
Innigen Dank !

There is a sweetness she finds in certain notes and she relaxes into them and so they hit home reducing me to an emotional jelly.
The best interpretation of Maria Wiegenlied. Bravo Sissel!!!! it is so moving and touching....

Sissel has “ excelled “ once again, a “ beautiful “ song sung by a “ beautiful “
lady. 🙃😉Stan🏴
coming from a metal fan, this is absolutely breath taking! I know God exists through music, thank you for confirming this!
Im a mad techno head and i truely believe that this is the most beautiful songs ive ever had the pleasure to listen to.
Purity and innocence radiates from every note.
Its perfect in every sense of the word
Otherworldly
My mother so loved this piece. How I wish she could have lived to hear Sissel's version. It is just transcendent.
Sissel is like an angel passing through your room. Her voice is a gift from God.

This is so Beautiful, and the voice brings tears.
How could anyone dislike this? It is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.

Wonderful song, and Sissel is so beautiful in that black dress.🖤

zeer mooi lied , zeer ontroerend
Such beauty...in sound and sight.
the best version of this song. of the whole world...
Schlaf kindlein, susse, schlaf nun ein. Her voice is so beautiful and German is so expressive and wonderful.
Two things are incredible: First, the hauntingly beautiful interpretation. Second, the utter negligence of mentioning the composer's name of this marvelous song - Max Reger!
Wunderschön !!
Sie ist ein engel! Sie gefallt mir sehr! Ausgezeichnet!

back here again for a cure to despondency in September 2020. Beauty is truth and truth is beauty as the poet said
Sublime mente hermoso, gracias por tanta belleza.... Te amamos en todo México.
Wooooooow! Such control with legato singing. Bravo!
This is the first time I have ever heard her sing and I am stunned! Wow
Ich kenne keine bessere Interpretation... Wunderbar...
Beautifully done...perfect. The only one that always brought uncontrolled tears to me was Mario Lanza's RCA recording.
Sehr berührend und wunderschön!!
I have never ever heard this sung so beautifuly - im a 16 year old metso , and I hope one day I will be able to sing this as well as her !!

Mine too though I'm singing it in german
beautiful
Amazing sweet!

The best singer in the world.
breath taking
Angelic Voices are too many... truly great Operatic voices extremely few to none these days
But she hasn't got an operatic voice, she has a classical crossover voice
An operatic voice is highly trained, but that doesn't make it a better or greater voice. Sissel's voice is not only angelic , but is very melodious. That I don't hear in many crossover or operatic singers.

What a voice here cause of my fav movie fury

Wat een mooie zang .
Yes, this performance is outstanding, but lets not forget who is the composer!
My copy is marked Allegretto?

Yes, agreed!
To the comment about her "chuckling" because the women's German pronunciation.....I've heard them live, singing in German. Trust me. They know how to sing in German. Enjoy!
