It’s a shame we were cursed with Paul Wiggin, who had no business being head coach and had no clue how to take advantage of all the weapons we had. Could beat any team in the country and then would below games against inferior teams, 6-5 was the best record in my four years at Stanford. Class of 83

Elway a once in a generational talent...if he goes to Washington or USC he wins multiple Rose Bowls and probably a couple of national championships!

If John Elway goes to the 49ers, he'd have won 6-8 Super Bowls! »»
None other than an authority on this subject, Howie Long_ who played many games against each, stated this
(and I paraphrase here): "Sure, Montana would dink and distribute all game long but Elway would stick a Dagger in you and then, finally, TWIST it! ; and... if Joe played on those Denver teams, he'd a shortly retired with busted knees. Whereas the Niners, with Elway, will have won four MORE Super Bowls!" So there you have it.

Elway was a phenom in college. He could have put up huge number in the NFL if he played in a different system. He would have been more like Marino rather than Bradshaw. However he won some sb’s so it worked out.

24:40 Tomczak underthrew that ball. You just can't do that. If you miss, miss out of the back of the endzone and preserve the chance for a FG.

I am 52 years old and I have never understood why the great John Elway went to Stanford.....
He never even went to a bowl game in his four years there

I don’t think he graduates with that Yankees contract if he doesn’t. Many colleges didn’t want him playing baseball at all, but Stanford supported it.

      Jack Allen
That, and Stanford ran an excellent passing offense. In fact it was more modern than what he ran in Denver under Reeves.

Why? No shortage of good reasons.
Stanford has a great QB tradition, especially back then. Their quarterbacks led the NCAA in passing from 1977-79; Jim Plunkett won the Heisman and John Brodie was an All-American.
Elway played high school football in Southern California; Of all the major conferences, the Pac-10 had the most sophisticated passing offenses. And no Pac-10 team threw more than Stanford.

John Elway sure was fun to watch at Stanford. It's just too bad he played on some bad and so-so teams from 1979 to 1982. On top of that, he had an AD (Andy Geiger) in 1980 who declined a bowl invitation to the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl because he felt the bowl wasn't up to Stanford's standards.

I was sitting in the end zone that Tomczak threw the final INT, and knew right away what the final outcome would be.

Every time I watch old tapes of Elway he always throws hella int's but stays confident & keeps slinging it for the win. I respect that about him.
