Animation studios in the 30s sure did love their trains. "Porky's Railroad", "Play Safe", various Popeye cartoons and others. There's a lot of similar animation styles and sight gags. Still love em, though.
Some very clever, imaginative animation ideas in that one - I get the feeling Handsome Harry was a silent film star from his dress, yet the Burlington Zephyr train puts it very firmly into the talkies era. Great fun.
same like the streamliner is cool and all but like it has only two cars when the steam train has three and the steam train actually helped those two people by coming to life and rapidly blow its whistle
I love this vintage filled with Black and white Screen when the 37``20 Railroad Rhythms, I think in 2016 years long time ago it was Old. I don't know if its too old -_-
Handsome Harry ain't p.c., but neither is the droopy black porter, because there ain't been no progress even for the past 85 Years....sad,........O8-(.
Thomas didn’t exist yet. The Rev. Wilbert Awdry didn’t think of the stories yet. Though this does show that he was far from the only one to imagine faces on smokebox doors.
At the time of this short's release, Americans were switching to automobiles and airplanes. Diesel locomotives and streamliner trains were gradually replacing steam locomotives by the mid-1950s.
Some scenes are refrenced to the brave engineer and some are from porkys railroad and the songs that are almost refrenced to other shows is one at 2:38 which is just The runaway theme from Thomas and friends
I think he oughta check the counter weights cuz I rode the narrow gauge which is supposed to be very finicky and shakey but it’s not as bad as that that or he got rip-off cave man bacmann cars

There was a promonate Disney animator who loved trains.
Might be one of the reasons for it

Great Cartoon never knew if this one till now. Love the railroad theme. But to be honest I prefer the steam train over the streamlined.
same like the streamliner is cool and all but like it has only two cars when the steam train has three and the steam train actually helped those two people by coming to life and rapidly blow its whistle
Same.
steam trains and streamliners are the same. they're both steam trains. just one goes faster

I hope the steam loco has a nice retirement
Edit: thank you for 13 likes
I certainly hope so and didn't get scrapped or left to rot in a siding
Me too
I think he just retired
I believe he’s preserved somewhere
this is better then animation nowadays
It looks like the streamliner turned into a warship for ww2 😂😂😂😂😂😂

It has no resemblance to James A. Garfield.

The monkey is a caricature of a black person... Yeah

Wow I miss the old classic ones😍🤩🥰🤩
Why Burlington Zephyr?? Maybe the "FLYING Yankee??" LOL 😆 😹 ha,ha. Train joke. You gotta be a true railfan to get it.
the streamliner looks like one of those classic Burlington route trains
The monkey is a caricature of Stepin Fetchit.
The streamliner reminds me of the zephyr train.
