A book talk on The Behavioral Code: The Hidden Ways the Law Makes Us Better . . . or Worse
Benjamin van Rooij, Professor of Law and Society at the University of Amsterdam and Professional Researcher at UCI Law, discusses The Behavioral Code: The Hidden Ways the Law Makes Us Better . . . or Worse, the important new book he co-authored with Adam Fine, Assistant Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University.
Described as “Freakonomics for the law,” The Behavioral Code draws on decades of research to uncover the root causes and hidden forces that drive our responses to society’s laws. In doing so, the book offers a different approach to battling crime, malfeasance, and injustice that is based on understanding the science of human misconduct-rather than relying on fear of punishment to regulate behavior.
Cary Coglianese, Director of the Penn Program on Regulation, moderates the discussion.
