I have the PRO 10s. And let me tell you... the prints on Quality paper like Hahnemühle fineart baryta 325g or the cheaper Hahnemühle photo pearl everyday 310g are just beautiful and at such a high level that it`s museum and galleri quality... my advice.. get a PRO 10s or the Pro 1000

I agree as a Pro 10 owner. Got it secondhand, and needed a new print head. 500 total and it was easy to get refills and cartridge resets.

I like my pro 100 that I've been using for over 9 years without repairs. Great printer, very dependable. I leave it on all the time. Sometimes after a power outage I have forgotten to turn it back on, if I run a cleaning cycle it's good as new it seems. Apple and Canon don't play nice sometimes so it has required some monkeying around getting them to talk again, but slug your way through it and it will work again. I think I'd try to find a 1000 if I was getting another one. Pigment inks are a pain to work with from my experience so maybe I would just get the 200. I'll use the 100 until I can't any more however.

Your video was a really good eyeopener. Especially, when you said that Canon wants to sell more ink cartridges than the printers than themselves. That really sums up everything for this entire video.

I have the pro-100. I print for personal use. When I moved from a 5div to the R5 I could tell the difference in the prints as well ! I was impressed that the aged Canon printer was able to show the extra resolution in the R5.

I bought the PRO-100 few years ago now. Also shoot with the Canon R5. This morning I printed a photo that was taken in 1997 with a Canon EOS 650 35mm film camera. It was a photograph of my grandmother. I scanned the negative with an EPSON scanner and did some editing on it. Printed using the PRO-100 and Canson Infinity Edition Etching Rag 310gsm paper. Turned out fabulous. My mother was at my house and I gave it to her for her birthday August 3rd. Also my grandmother's birthday was August 2nd. So great way to bring back some memories. My mother had tears in her eyes.

I agree with your opinions, except I would get the Epson P900 over the Canon PRO-1000, the PRO-1000 is just too old (hopefully a replacement will come out this year or next year). The PRO-200 is the printer most people should buy, it is the one the I have

  • @CatGerwig

Thanks for the breakdown and opinions. My very loved Pro-100 just randomly stopped printing black and cyan ink, and no matter what I do, I cannot get it working again. I'm at a point of desperation where I fear I may just have to replace it. My conflict now is - do I buy a newer model with outrageously expensive $8-min off-brand inks, or do I risk buying an outrageously price-scalped 100 with amazing $2 off-brand inks (which my printer has never experienced a single problem with. ..Until now, of course. Whether the ink, print head or printer itself is at fault is still unknown). Uhg, expensive decisions are always so hard...

by September, I was able to find the Pro 200 and inks for somewhat less than the price you were quoted. I couldn't afford the 300 or the pro1,000 and, as much as I like pigment inks for B&W, my experience with clogged nozzels dried up, expensive inks on Epsons has soured me on those choices

I have a Pro -100 and a Pro-10 for about 5 years. I refill both with ink from Precision Color Inks out of Canada. Mike, the owner works extremely hard to make his inks as compatible as possible with OEM.
The biggest difference between the 100’s dye inks and the 10’s pigment inks are longevity. The Pro-10 pigment inks last Much longer without fading than the dye based Pro-100. With either you’ll get the longest lasting images with OEM inks. The pigment printers of Canon clog much less than Epson. I’ve actually went weeks without printing with no issues. Due to some unforeseen circumstances I went 1.5 years without printing and was able to revive my Pro-10 with some help of a UA-cam video and a good head cleaning. Works good as new.
Canon is not just trying to sell more ink with the Pro-10 / 300. Pigment inks are a whole different route.
I was very Blessed to recently pick up a brand new in the box Pro-100 for $30!! Setting it aside for when I need it someday.

You should mention that dye based inks fade much more easily. That’s one critical deciding factor when choosing between the pro 10 and pro 100.if you print for yourself due I k is fine. If you would like to sell your work I wouldn’t use dye inks.

Well, what you mentioned is generally correct, but not quite accurate. the new Canon inks for pro200 has near archival quality (according to Canon it is designed to last for 100 years) despite being dye ink. There are many factors that influence the long-lasting quality, certain pigment inks can also be unstable. Also, the choice of paper and display location is quite essential as well. So I would suggest studying better and make conscious decisions depends on what will be the application.

    • @wademorales
      @wademorales 3 роки тому +8

@@RA-cr2rq I think you need to do your research. Even the pro 100 claimed 100+ years but that doesn’t mean in all conditions. Straight from canons website here’s their claim on their chroma life 100 ink.
Album Storage Lifespan of up to 100 Years
With ChromaLife 100 technology, your prints remain vivid in both color and quality for up to 100 years*.
      * Based on accelerated testing by Canon in dark storage under controlled temperature, humidity and gas conditions, simulating storage in an album with plastic sleeves. Canon cannot guarantee the longevity of prints; results may vary depending on printed image, drying time, display/storage conditions, and environmental factors. See www.usa.canon.com/chromalife100 for additional details.
Basically don’t put any extended amount of light on these prints. If you do it’s already been proven over an over that the prints will fade. That’s why you go with Pigment based inks. They hold up better.
If you plan on hanging your prints in a house where they are going to be exposed to light and other elements dye inks break up and fade much faster. Canons definition of 100 years is more so in a photo album. They are not considered archival. If you want archival you go with Lucia pigment inks which they claim up to 200 years in an album and around 60 years behind glass. But many people who use pro 100 printers have claimed that their prints fade quickly when hanging them in their home. Both the pro 100 and 200 use chroma life 100 inks. I stand by my statement, people who purchase your prints will hang them on their wall, they won’t put them in a photo album.

I think you missed a key point between 200 and 300 that is the ink type they use, maybe I'm wrong but from my estimate with included ink you should be able to print around 100 A4 for less then 5€ each, I pay 12/13€ for lab fineart print, the difference should already cover my printer in first 100 A4

same here ... I liked your video .. I am actually choosing between pro-200 and pro-300 .. obviously there's more difference than you didn't talk about ... these printers also differ greatly at which media they are working on the best ... dye-ink printers (pro-200) work better on glossy/lustre paper (according to many it even clearly outperforms pro-300) whilst pigment-based printers excel while using mat papers and also b&w photography .. as solely a landscape photographer (who shoots in color 99% of time) I dare to say pro-300 is a bit better choice because matt/baryta paper is I believe a more suited for high-detail-density photographs that should/shall be viewed and examined more closely than typically object-oriented genres like portraits or other genres ..

I already bought a Canon Pro-300 for my art business. I make matted prints of my original paintings. The display is showing error 5B00, and I cannot reset it. I don't seem to have the proper utility software/driver, although I'm not clear where to look (I did get into certain "maintenance" tabs and such, but didn't see any "reset" options of any sort. And I'm unable to hard reset, using the stop/cancel tap 5/7 times processes that I've found online for other models). It seems to stay in the "error mode", even if trying to "clean nozzles" and other similar regular maintenance functions as well. I tired that to see if it would activate the printer that way. So, here I am...more searching for the solution. I hope that you can assist, so that I can get back to printing. I love your videos -- thanks for being here to help people.

If you want to play with the big boys, don’t cry like a baby. It’s not Canon. If they don’t make a profit, you will only be left with Epson. There is no cheaper 10 ink pigment ink Canon printer. Epson P700 is about the nearest alternative. Pro 1000 is even worse if you complain about the Pro 300. Pro 200 is dye ink - doesn’t hold up to age like the pigment inks. For amateur printer I think Epson ET 8550 or Pro 200 is best. I still use my Canon Pixma Pro9000.
