  • ...and another metallic watercolor set has jumped into the art supply arena! Today we will look at Arteza Metallic Watercolors set of 24 half pans. You can find them on the Arteza website: shrsl.com/2alm8 *Use coupon code LindsayWeirich1 to save 10% on everything at Arteza: shrsl.com/2almd *affiliate links are used in this post and the paint was sent to me for free for this review however all opinions are 100% honest.
Overview: 24 metallic half pan watercolors in a standard metal watercolor tin. Includes a water brush and swatch cards.
    Pros:
    Nice color selection
Opaque on dark, colorful on white paper
Rewets easily *Spray with water before using
    Cons:
Some colors are very similar looking on dark as a few lose their colors characteristics and all you see is the sheen.
Not as shiny as other similarly priced sets (but shinier than the Arteza metallic gouache which is a tube opaque watercolor)
    Bottom line:
These paints aren't bad but there is some tough competition out there right now. I think the $40 Altenew set offers more glittery bang for the buck: shrsl.com/2alnb but Altenew only has 14 colors in larger pans. For variety, if you don't mind spending a few more dollars the Paul Rubens metallic set is still my pick: amzn.to/2LLr6t9 That said the Arteza paints are not bad at all and they do cost a bit less for 24 lovely colors. shrsl.com/2alm8 Metallic watercolor are not something you are likely to use every day so you probably don't need multiple sets so pick the one that meets your needs and budget best. I also showed the metallic gouache which is a pearly opaque watercolor (best not dry these in a palette or they will crack and fall out tho) which might suit your needs too: shrsl.com/2alnp

Thank you. I enjoy your honest reviews. Searching is helpful, but when you actually do a painting, it gives me the best idea as to how they perform. I appreciate the extra effort you put into your reviews. The comparison to previous products is an added benefit. Awesome.

Thanks for your honest review! So refreshing to watch. I watched your showdown of metallic watercolor a while back, and found it extremely useful. I chose the inexpensive prima set. I bought 2 sets for about $7 each (with a coupon), and I’m completely satisfied with my choice. For the amount of use in my crafting they’re perfect! There is always something new coming down the pike, and I appreciate watching honest reviews to help decide what to add to my stash. I think I’ll pass on these. Thanks again!

I have not been impressed with the Arteza products so far. I am glad that some people enjoy them, but feel they are trying to pass off as more professional supplies than they truly are. They would be a great contender for student grade materials and at the higher end of that category. I always love your reviews, Lindsay!

I’ve been disappointed by the arteza products I’ve had. I’ve just ordered the Kuretake ZIG Gansai Tambi metallic watercolours after having them in my amazon wish list for over a year... no longer can be considered an “impulse buy”

Colleen Beers that’s awesome that you treated yourself to something special! I have the Paul Rubens and love them. I didn’t pay much more than what Lindsay said the Arteza ones are going for currently. I use them for highlights and details with my M.Graham or St. Petersburg watercolors and they are wonderful. It’s wonderful that we have so many options for these art products!

I've had a set of these for a months or so now and absolutely love them. They are a professional grade as far as I'm concerned. Glad you like them as well.I;ve used them on black Kraft-Tex paper fabric and the results were awesome.

Hi Lindsay. Nice review as always. A suggestion for the rust might be clear nail polish. You won't have to take the paint out then. Thanks for sharing.

I have a set of metallic paints from Yasutomo. I bought them locally; so, I am not sure if I got a good deal or not. The set cost me about $7. They cover dark paint or paper okay. If I paint them onto white paper and let them dry, I can go back the next day and drip water on the painted paper, let it sit a bit, then use a paper towel to blot. It goes back to the white paper. I can create interesting effects by doing this. I can add a bit of shimmer to my regular watercolor paints by mixing a bit of the metallic paint with the watercolor paint.

These are pretty but I don’t really use metallic watercolor. I have a few Gansai Tambi colors from a set and it’s enough for me 😄
Thanks for this review, Lindsay 💕

The pineapple as promised, thanks much! The gouache definitely had more impact....thanks for the comparisons.
Arteza seems to have an aggressive marketing strategy for sure, but isn't the niche I usually play in 🙊

I recently bought a palette of empty half pans from Arteza on Amazon and the edges were so sharp that my daughter got cut badly. I will never take a chance buying anything from them after that! It was like a razor blade. Their watercolor paper price isn’t much less than Arches but I don’t think it comes close to Arches in quality. I’m glad you’ve had good experiences though. It’s always great to watch your reviews. 😊 Maybe I’ll reconsider the brand one day if they revamp their quality control & lower their prices. But safety means a lot to me along with quality and value.

This happened to me as well. I took pictures of the pallet as it also had nicks in the enameled paint that would rust the pallet and dents. I emailed customer service with the pics and they sent me another pallet. It was less sharp, had fewer dents and chips in the enamel. Never again will I order from them. The paper to me is not of good quality for the price as well.

@@annettefournier9655 I really am mad at the company because this is obviously an issue. I don’t know why Amazon sells it when it’s not safe. I wouldn’t want a replacement. I’d rather a refund and then buy something better. If I had to use it toward an Arteza product I’d maybe try their paper again. I’m just really shocked that these palettes made it through quality control. I was just glad she didn’t need stitches.

I used their empty 48 palette and the edges were not sharp. I have not opened the 24 size. I will check my palette that I have not opened and let my contact av arteza know. Since they source so many products from around the world they might ha e missed it. I have a really sharp schminke academy palette like that.

@@thefrugalcrafter I’ll be curious to know if yours is sharp like ours were. It’s really frustrating right now especially as where I o9ve we are still on lockdown.

Lindsay, great video on metallics. I began with Colori, Fine Tech, then after your review, Aletnew. Which are GREAT! Question: do you have a tutorial on your fast and fun pineapple? It was SWEET!

I've been wanting to get these for a while. I have the finetec set with the copper, silver etc which is really nice but it would be so awesome to have all these colors. I just don't know how to use them! Have you tried the Daniel Smith ones?

Thanks Lindsay. Good review. I'm not a fan of arteza. Sharp edges on pallets, dents and chips, the 100% cotton paper is meh. For the money there is better quality elsewhere if you have a bit of patience. I just haven't had goid luck with their products. Their customer service is excellent though.👍💖

I noticed that with Amazon, since covid-19 their prices have jumped upwards 10,15 dollars more and Amazon said oh we won't let people gouge people with this virus going on, but yet the people who sell art items is doing just that. Sorry I ranted on your channel. Great job Lindsay.

I only take reviews as honest when the reviewer buys them themselves especially when it comes to Arteza because I now know the key words and phrases you need to use in the review, be honest about that.
