No border It would distract from the other pieces. You excel in every craft you do. You're an inspiration!
No border necessary. The quilt is fabulous as is. Love the granny squares!
Hey. My new rabbit hole is spinning. Got some ladakhi phang spindels on my holidays and some fleeces of sheep, yak and cashmere. A lot of work distracting me from crochet and knitting. But fun. Thanks for sharing your adventures
Love the quilt without the light border. Gorgeous.
That quilt is GORGEOUS, seriously, gorgeous! The color scheme is sublime! Love it!
The quilt looks so elegant as is. No border!
Sooo beautiful! I Love your quilt! You are perfection my friend. Very talented and so so creative. I don’t think you need a border, because it looks amazing already and I totally focus when looking at it on the pretty fabric pieces that you chose. Keep up the Great work! I’m so excited and anxious to see your next video. 🧶 🪡 🧵 🌸 💜 🐈⬛
💖💖💖
Your quilt is beautiful! No border, its lovely
I adore that quilt! I vote no additional border.
Oh wow, Kristin! The new quilt top is stunning!!! Your points are very good. Good precision sewing and matching up the various squares to each other.
I vote no border (too pale compared to the rest of the quilt). If you want to do another border to make it a bigger top for a larger finished quilt, I would pull one of the darker colors out of one of the prints and go with that. But something that would blend with the border you already chose.
As far as a “bigger” machine, look at a Bernina machine. They are all steel heads and all metal parts, no plastic. They are workhorses! I have one from the early 1990s, it is an amazing machine.
I also have my great grandmother’s old straight-stitcher from the 1930s. My sewing machine repair guy was like, “Never get rid of this machine! And if you want to, I want to buy it from you.” No better recommendation for an older machine workhorse you could potentially pick up used.
Just some food for thought…
❤😀🧵
Thank you so much, Kristin! I agree ... going to omit the border. #LessIsMore! 😄 I've heard great things about Bernina - definitely going to test drive a few machines before pulling the trigger. 😉 And that is amazing that you still have and care for your grandmother's machine. They certainly don't make them like they used to. 💖
Janome makes a great machine. I am still using the one my husband bought me when I was pregnant with our now 32 year old daughter. Definite workhorse machine.
Gorgeous quilt! I vote no border. Stop where you are, it’s perfect.
I vote no border, I love the look the way it is!
Stunning new quilt top! I think that’s awesome that you reused the fabric. You are so fearless with your “kill your darlings” attitude!
Loving the cute headband look today 😉
I could imagine a ruffled edge with the metallic fabric! This quilt is really beautiful, when I finish my Battenberg quilt I will have to make that one too. 😅
Oh, I do want to try a ruffled border one of these days, but I think I'm just going to keep this one simple. And when you finish your Battenberg blanket, maybe I'll finally pick up mine again. 😆
@@Voolenvine The crocheted blanket has been finished for a while, even though it didn't turn out that big. It’s Ella‘s now. Cat sized blankets are a good excuse to stop/finish and start a different one. 🫠
The Battenberg Quilt on the other hand will go onto our couch as a cover blanket, so this trick will not work here.
No border. It's GORGEOUS 😍I
Your quilt is beautiful, I think no border...possibly use that fabric for a contrasting binding...for a nice pop of color. Your crochet squares are Devine!! ❤
Oh boy now I want to learn to sew to make project bags and quilts!!
I think the quilt is beautiful without a border 😊
Definitely no border Kristin!! I would bind with a charcoal grey or something to pick out the dark in some of the prints! Also, I love the crochet squares........I've added to my queue!!! Your such a bad influence 😂😂
I would do a black border on the quilt!! It's so beautiful!
Hi Kristin! Your new quilt top is absolutely stunning. I would not add the extra border. Love, love, love your content!
Thank you so much, Joanne!
No border! It looks so great - a nice contrasting binding would look great ❤
I would say a border in the same or very similar fabric or no border 😊 it’s absolutely stunning!!
Thanks so much, Selma! I think the verdict is in: no border 😄
Your quilt is beautiful! No border :)
No border. Bella is so going to want that new quilt!
😹 😹 😹
Oh yay we got a Bella! 😍
🐱💕
It’s a beautiful quilt, love it. I’m with the other viewers of your channel, it doesn’t need the border. Looking forwards to seeing your finished night vision quilt.
Kristin the quilt top is beautiful, bamboo/silk batting sounds so comfortable. I love the crochet squares Victorian is beautiful. The caron cakes are beautiful.
Hi Kristen, I'm fairly new to your channel and really enjoy your vlogs. I too knit, crochet, and have just returned to quilting. Your new quilt top is beautiful, I love the colours and might have to borrow that scheme... For my money, no border. Less is sometimes more. I've just replaced my 30 year old Singer machine which just isn't up to quilting and have bought a Pfaff Expressions 710. It's really great - QUITE the step up from the previous one. Good luck with your machine hunting, Juanita
I think no border. Love it the way it is. Gorgeous ❤❤
😮 you're DONE?! Wholly smokes! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 It looks SO GOOD! I think I am on team no border. It is lovely.
Border with metallic fabric, thanks for sharing.
No border. Beautiful as is. 😊
Leave that beautiful quilt top as is!
Beautiful quilt. Colors/fabrics look fantastic No border.
Beautiful quilt I say follow your gut you have exquisite taste.
Thanks for the crochet square pattern idea. Adding it to the wip pile which I am diligently whittling down but can’t resist this one.
Quilt is beautiful, no border needed. Love all your projects 💕💕💕
I would add a binding out of the print fabric rather than a border: love it!
I love your new quilt! It’s very consistent with your dark, moody aesthetic which is gorgeous. Although the fabric you got for the border is very beautiful, it doesn’t look like it is dark enough to ground the quilt, if you know what I mean. It seems too “wispy.” Perhaps ise it for a coordinating bolster pillow? It’s just a thought. Thank you for sharing this latest creation! ✨✨💕
Thanks so much, Leslie! And I agree, the fabric I got for the border is too light for the overall aesthetic. 🖤
Thanks Kristen for what you do and the time you take to share your makes. I truly enjoy each and every episode. ❤
I'm so glad you enjoy my videos, Deb! 🥰
Wow Kristen your quilt top is absolutely divine!!! I vote no additional border!!
Loved your quilt. Love the colors and the granny squares WOW!! I immediately went and down loaded the pattern and am trying to decide on the color. Thank you so much for your beautiful ideas and beautiful crafts!! ❤️
I'm gravitating toward no border but playing with perhaps a binding out of of the material and/or leftover scraps? I love it as it is ❤
I love the "new" Pattern it's beautiful. Your blanket is lovely.
No border, but that fabric would be great as the binding. Great job!
Oh my gosh, this is my favorite quilt you’ve done! (All beautiful but this one is chefs kiss)
The quilt top is beautiful and I like it without an additional border. The granny squares are amazing and I too need this pattern. I like the look of the yarn. I didn't know they made cotton and acrylic yarn. Cotton is sometimes hard on my hands to work with but this I need to try. Since you mentioned sewing I remember when you were making your own garments. I always thought they were so beautiful and loved watching the process with you. I get it not your thing but I have to ask, the winter coat. What about the winter coat? Kristin, I couldn't believe you made a winter coat. It was stunning and beautiful. Maybe you can tell us in your next question and answer episode. Thanks for all you share.
First, let me say that your quilt is lovely as is, so no border needed. Since your LYS and mine are one and the same, I will tell you that I recently invested in the Memory Craft 9450, and I love it! The larger machine bed makes it perfect for quilting. Lastly, may I say that I love the Victorian Lattice Square, and I see an afghan in my future!
Hi Debra! Yes!! Joan mentioned the Janome MC as a potential machine. If I go with Janome, I'll either go with that one or the HD. I'm glad you are loving your machine and hope to run into you there sometime!! 🤗
Absolutely! Because of my crafting addiction, I'm there at least once weekly!@@Voolenvine
No border. Quilt is lovely.
No Border-I think it distracts from the pieced quilt top. I also follow-Subscribe to Kate at The Last Homely House and did not pick up that she uses a silk bamboo batting. Thanks for pointing out where you got the idea and sounds like a winner. Your crocheted granny squares are beautiful! Your crochet craft is amazing too.
Your quilt came out awesome.❤
I Think no border but contrasting binding. Great video as always.
Yay for the extra update this week ❤ you're so talented and inspiring. Also I vote no border on your beautiful quilt.
Thanks Kristen for the heads up! I will definitely check out that square. Love your quilt. It’s gorgeous.
I've made a pink/white crib sized afghan as a gift using this pattern. It does work up very nicely, especially in the color blended shades (variegated).
No border. It’s beautiful as is.
i'm joining team No Border, but maybe use that nice fabric for a throw pillow? it would be great somewhere...
If you want your quilt to be a bit bigger with a second border... how about using the patterned fabric as a very small strip in between 2 grey borders. Cut 1/2 inch strips, fold over, sew onto your existing border so that the folded edge is on the right side. And then, sew on another border in the same solid grey fabric. Can't remember if there is a name for this... beautiful quilt.
Your quilt is so beautiful. I love the Victorian granny squares
Thank you so much! 💖
I say no border on the quilt, which is beautiful! I think the change in color would pull you away from the beauty of your printed fabric in the middle.
Hi!!! Beautiful quilt! I vote for a dark grey or black border, not that material you showed.
Love the quilt without a border.
The fabric could be very pretty as binding or backing, if you have enough.
I’m excited to see what new machine you’ll choose.
Just to mention Bernina machines - they have a special sewing foot (the BSR) that is excellent for free motion quilting ❤
Btw….you look adorable today! Love the hair and headband look, esp with the necklace!
Aww, why thank you, Beverly! 💖
No border. Quilt is stunning as is. ❤
I think no border. It has a beautiful elegance as is that might be obscured by more pattern. Maybe a binding in a darker grey?
I think I agree with no border. And I might just have enough of the same Strawberry Theif fabric left for the binding!!
@@Voolenvine oooh, niiiice!
I love the Night Vision Quilt you made and your colors are amazing. I ordered the pattern. We will see how far I go as a beginner. I vote for no boarder, the quilt is perfect. Thanks for your inspiation.
Yay!! I hope you enjoy making the pattern as much as I did!
@@Voolenvine Thank
I love your quilt and in respect to the border... I think we need to see the quilt spread out with the border fabric peeking out from the side I.e. if you are planning a 4 inch border have 4 inches peeking out, that's how we auditioned borders when I worked in a quilt shop. I think the fabric you showed may be too pale, adding a darker one would be dd an option, you need to see if from a distance or squint, to judge if it's the right one. ❤❤
maybe no border but use your leftovers for a scrapy binding
No border💕. Iris
Beautiful quilt top. No border though.
I have a Janome 3160 that has a bunch of attachments for quilting including a bigger table
No border Would detract from the main part. Pretty binding will be enough 🤓🏴
Look into renting a machine. Burlington Electric Quilter in MA allows you to use their machines. I rented one to quilt a queen size quilt and it took 4 hours. The cost is MUCH cheaper and fun. They guide you through the whole process.
Great tip! Thanks so much 🤗
I like the width of the border now. I saw chop the border you have in half and then attach the half width of the new fabric so it’s the original width but you get both fabrics
What a lovely quilt! I’ll vote no border. I think a border would be overkill of patterns and would detract from the stars.
Have you checked out Lo and behold stitchery? She has free quilt patterns and QALs.
Also Erica Arndt on YT has shown a frame she puts her sewing machine on sideways to do quilting for larger quilts. It's like a DIY long arm. I love your new quilting mojo!
Ooh! Thanks for letting me know about Lo and Behold and Erica Arndt. I'll have to check them out 🤗
AH, I actually have a few of Lo and Behold's patterns saved! They're gorgeous 😍
She’s starting a new QAL this month. Cathedral windows. Free pattern.
I wouldn’t add the lighter border. If anything, I’d go with a darker gray.
No border. It’s stunning the way it is. Maybe use that for the back
Agreed, Julie! No border it is 😆 Ah, I'd need like 5 more yards of that fabric for the backing 🫠 It will go into stash for a rainy day.
No border it will be too much. That's very beautiful
No boarder please!,, it’s so beautiful as it is
Judi is the way to go for quilting you can a nice wide neck they are a work horse machine
Juki.
I've been looking at Juki's as well for that reason! 👀 the larger neck is very appealing. We shall see! 😄
It’s so pretty, I will not add the border.
I say no border, the fabric choice seems to light in color for the rest of the quilt in my opinion. I love it as is.
Pro tip: If you go with linen for the backing, be sure to pre-wash/shrink it. The warp and weft shrink at significantly different rates and if it’s been sewn to a different fiber, it distorts severely. (Ask me how I know.)
Also, I vote no border. Seems more minimalist/Kristin without.
Ah, yes! I forgot to mention that I plan to pre-wash the linen. 😄
No border- like the simplicity
That’s so thoughtful of you Marsha, Thanks for your positive review,How are you and how’s the weather over there?
No border. Where did your order the special batting from?
Hmmm…notice the likeness to the wallpaper?
Did you ever finish the Janie Crow blanket? I sure hope I didn’t miss a video.
You missed nothing! It's still in hibernation 😆 I plan to pick it back up this fall! 🍂🍁🍃
No border!
No border. That border will likely distract from the quilt patches.
Your quilt is lovely! From what I saw the points were perfect and corners met. Nice job. I’ve been quilting since 1974 and if you need some patterns or tutorials please check out Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics. She teaches many new quick ways to make different blocks that I enjoy. Their fabric line is lovely as well. Enjoy your quilt adventure. You are doing a wonderful job.
Thank you so much, Jan. 💖And YESSS!!! I love Donna Jordan's channel. She has many great tips and tutorials. 😄
Where is the pattern for the lattice squares? I'd like to try them
The pattern is linked in the description box above! 😄
Question: what is a liberty fabric?
It's a British brand of tana lawn fabric known for its floral prints - especially William Morris! It's also lighter and finer than your average quilting cotton. ☺
Oh cool, I have noticed that the patterns are spectacular 😍@@Voolenvine
Genuine question. Is it common in the US to refer to one self in third person ? You do it often and I have heard it in other US based podcast. In Europe this is a very weird way of speaking
It is kind of weird! Isn't it? 😂 I'm not sure, to be honest. The best way I can describe it is like talking to myself from someone else's perspective but is meant to be a bit sarcastic if that makes sense. Kind of like how a "royal we" is typically used today.
Please don't put that fabric on the border, it will spoil the effect. You could use it for the lining. Sorry just my opinion.
No need to apologize! I completely agree 😄
A lot of talking. Didn't learn anything
Sorry to hear that.
