Ahhh - ALERT! This guy is amazing! Several elements that will hold him in very good stead as he moves forward. He plays with impeccable clarity. You can clearly make out the notes, which is not always the case with cellists, let's just be honest. With Sterling, no matter how fast the scales were going, I heard the notes. His bow arm is also impeccable. He literally bounces through playful sections with uncanny control. His technique is sound as a rock. His legato is, well, perfect. He shifting is on point. (He knows how to turn on the schmaltz - think Pinkas Zuckermann). And finally the sound he produces is virtually irreproachable. Sure there were some blemishes, but my goodness, quite a few glimmers of greatness all the way through. Bravo!
Remove that Belgian bridge - the cello sounds very harsh. Put a French bridge back on and learn how to use gravity to play with real power. You don’t need the Belgian bridge.
