    Hello sir,
    I follow all your videos they have very valuable inputs.
    I have recently bought a SS master 5000 bat with 7 grains on it.
    I just want to know few things veru clearly before knocking as it is expensive bat and cannot afford to buy an another one if something goes wrong with my knocking.
    1)Do i have to oil and keep the bat aside for some time to gain its moisture to gain back(if so for how long shall i keep it aside and which condition(outdoor or indoor).
    2)As you have mentioned in the video you said you have to knock it for 6 to 7 hrs, so it it ok if i knock my bat for 1 hour a day fpr 7 days amd then take it to nets before playing,or is it fine to knock it for 1 hour and have a 30 minutes net session(bola machine) a day, for a week time?
    3)which of the following is recommended,
    Knocking in the middle or put an antiscuff sheet and toe tip(as ther were many debates on not good knocking in middle).
    4) lastely how often do i have to oil my bat after thins process.
    Will be awainting for your valuable response and thanks in advance.😊

      Knocking is not an hours thing.... It is a feel thing..... No one touches ur bat so hours don't matter. What matters is how the bat feels ready or not.

    Hi, thanks for your earlier reply. I had a quick question tho, I purchased some linseed oil from amazon and I'm a lil worried that it's not the right oil, any way to tell the difference between the right oil? The label on the bottle says cricket bat oil from SS and the supplier has already disappeared off amazon.

    • @cricketmerchant
      @cricketmerchant  10 років тому

      if the oil is from SS it may be a good oil. you can check out site cricketmerchant.com to compare the product by looking at the picture.

      Use non-processed(raw) linseed oil. Hanging ball will knock the bat, use a wooden mallet or give fielding and catching practice (30 min sessions) for next 15 days.

    Your video is probably the best detailed explained. I do have a question tho. How can you tell if the cricket bat needs oil or not. I just purchased a brand new one and I'm not sure if it's pre oiled or not...

    • @cricketmerchant
      @cricketmerchant  10 років тому

      If you do not see wood hair fragments on the bat surface; front or back, you do not need oiling. If you bat weight is decreased compare to when you purchased, wood has lost moisture and shall require oiling. Hope it helps.

      Santosh Guduru you are so true.. Matthew, yes knocking is essential for good performance. Once you start knocking you will start seeing dent's on the soft willow.. keep it pressing until those dent start disappearing.

    Hey i got 2 Wombats cricket bats imported from Australia..both are having Fiber tapes on their faces..and i really dont want to remove them as they perfectly fitted over the bats..so is it necessary to oil them and if yes, then how can i oil them if the fiber tape is there..? and if oiling isnt possible in such case then can i continue with the knocking only? please reply me asap as i need to prepare them before mid of june..!! and one more thing..as both the bats came with fibre tapes over them, so is it possible to knock them with the tape stick over them?

    • @cricketmerchant
      @cricketmerchant  10 років тому +1

      Sab, you do not need to remove fiber tape. Apply oil in all exposed willow area.

      We suggest to work on it for max 6 hours... with that said, more you knock you may end up softening up the willow upper surface, which is not good for the willow. Knock it for 5-6 hours and than let the game or practice take care of the rest.

    Great video, sometimes after knocking the bat i see cracks near the grain lines, is it because of overknocking? How does a completely knocked bat by wooden mallet looks like, do you have pictures of before and after, i dont see any seam marks but still when i hit with ball it doesnt feel completely knocked, any pointers

    • @thinhnonyt
      @thinhnonyt 2 роки тому

      Does the ball leave any seam marks? Try putting your fingernail in the wood, if you can easily leave a dent, you need to knock it in more. Your bat is completely knocked in if you can’t leave a mark with your fingernail, and you can hit the ball hard without any seam marks then it should be good. Don’t be afraid to spend a long time, over knocking is better than under knocking.
      Is the crack vertical or horizontal? If it’s vertical or along the grain, you may need to knock more. If it’s horizontal, you won’t need to worry, bats naturally crack after a while.

      You can apply one thin coat and once dry can start knocking. if you feel that the bat is still dry add another thin coat. Do not over oil, once coat at a time. Max two thin coat.

    Great guidance, My question is I started knocking in new bat, 48 hrs after 3rd coat (oil), can i put on xtratec after 3 times of oil or after completing knocking in, because it provides better protection for the bat? Thanking you.

      +brizzy ran You can put it on after the bat dries out. If you put it prior to that, xtratec may come off.

      Linseed oil is the preferred oil. We do not recommend to us any other oil.

    Thanks a ton for this great video. I bought GM SIX6 F4.5 404 bat. It says its Oiled, Knocked in and ready to play. But I feel the bottom of the bat needs to be knocked in further. It has a face cover on it. Can I knock the bottom on top of it?

    • @cricketmerchant
      @cricketmerchant  9 років тому

      vickye venkat no need to oil. GM bats do come factory prepared. You can do lite knocking on top of the face cover and oil only if you start seeing hairline fragments on the willow. Oil everywhere you see exposed wood but not on the sticker. Good luck!

    How long do you suggest the whole "knocking in" process will take for each area and all together???

    Can a bat be knocked using just the leather ball mallet alone ? I mean what if someone uses the leather part of the ball (and not the seam) for the complete knocking process ?

    cricketmerchant once you oil your bat how many hours do you have to wait until u can start knocking it? And I had purchased a gm zona 909 EW with gm now (pre knocked) and I knocked it for 3h but when I went in the nets yesterday with an old ball and I noticed a dent in the edge and it was toward the toe part of the bat! Is that something I Hav to worry about?

    • @cricketmerchant
      @cricketmerchant  9 років тому

      no need to worry. GM bats are probably the best in market that is actually hand knocked.
