I came to have a relationship with God when I was incarcerated as a result of a fist fight that turned out very badly. I was 23 years old, 4200 km away from home and locked In a prison. I got out when I was 27 I got baptized and I have known God's mercy and love and the way it will change a man right to his core . Many nights in my cell I listened to this song on my discman. My pastor brought me a vineyard worship cd and I'll tell you I found more freedom as a believer in prison then I ever did as a nonbeliever on the Street. I'm now married to an amazing beautiful loving Christian woman and God has kept his promise. Not sure who needs to see this but I was in prison, in the foster care system, unloved, hated and absolutely broken. Then I ALLOWED God to touch my heart . Everything in life that I wanted and didn't have is because I didn't allow God to be a part of it . When I let him into my heart I allowed him to bless me with many great things . The lord truly is gracious and compassionate
Such an incredibly moving testimony (!) spoken truly from your heart. Thank you for opening your life to Jesus. He has clearly taken you from death into His miraculous life. God BLESS YOU everyday!!
Amazing testimony brother. What happened to you is proof that the Holy Scripture is no ‘fairy tale’ as some would say. You managed to capture, in so few words, just how incredible our G-d is. This cannot be overstated. It ought to be shouted from the rooftops across the whole world. With your permission I am sharing this with a few young men with whom I have some influential friendships.
There is POWER in the shed blood of Christ, and there is also power in the words of this song. In 2013, when on my floor singing this song in tears, for about a half an hour. Not realizing how powerfully this was stirring the Lord's compassion for me and the state of my heart)...I paused for a second, and the scriptures from Mark 14:37-38 came to mind. So of course, i continued singing. Afterward, i felt what i thought, at first, was a heart attack. I immediately started to pray, saying "Lord, if this is NOT of you, please take it away." The feeling went on for another minute and then stopped. It was not my time yet, it was ♥︎ surgery. He did some much needed work on my heart, that i was not aware was needed. Shortly after, the Holy Spirit spoke to my spirit, revealing that a door had opened for healing. I knew that He had just prepared me to be able to receive that healing. And so began another journey with the Lord, as i continued to walk in the spirit of truth, FEARING nothing but God...Proverbs 3:5; trusting in Him, and remembering that He is protecting us, ALL 4 corners of the earth, and ROMANS 8:28
I had the pleasure of playing this song with its composer Graham Ord a couple of times. A very honest and straightforward bloke, no pretence at all. I always thought it would become a classic.
It's a shame churches today don't want to play these song's because they're considered old. I think it's a mistake to not reach back and pick up one of these beautiful and very powerful gems, and to only stick to playing modern day church song's. For you people who think these song's are too old how would you like it if you knew you still had a lot to offer but you were shelved because people consider you old? There is too many rules, ego, and religion in church. We all should be allowed to flow freely in the Holy Spirit, not be controlled by mankind.
woah you went from wanting old songs back (a kinda fair point) to saying there’s too much religion in a church. Considering a church is used as a meeting place for Christians, im not surprised there’s religion in a church.
We're still singing it. In fact I chose it for this Sunday. A great song, lyrically and musically. Although our version will be much simpler on piano and guitar 🙂
There is no song too old to really sing praises unto our God, and when we sing it should come out our hearts, not just singing the words, because God does not like it that way, then it is just noise to Him. Amos 5 vs 23, God bless.
Vineyard has always been a grove of authentic worship music from its founding through John wimber to Kevin prosch to Scott Underwood to Chris lizotte. God bless y’all
Love everything about this song. Beautiful guitar playing and sound, and wonderful scripture song. We just played this with guitar/keyboard at our home fellowship, and did a Bible study on the 8 different places that these words show in scripture...amazing theme to study: Psalm 103:8-12, 22; Psalm 145:8-9; Psalm 86:15; Psalm 111:4; Exodus 34:6-7; Jonah 4:2; Nehemiah 9:17; Isaiah 30:18
they have hummingbirds in California, Trinidad and Nepal. I love vineyard music, and I have a connection with hummingbirds from Trinidad and Nepal. I love hummingbirds. I love God and Jesus is my saviour, and that's probably Jesus now, but you never know Jesus plans, listen to them and follow the lamp light for the path
Just to add to my recent comment. To sing and praise the Lord and in prayer this is what God wants us to do, worship in truth and spirit John 4 vs 24, shalom
Great arrangement. I'm an experienced musician, but new to praise and worship music. This Memphs Soul style version is righteous, brothers and sisters. Say amen, somebody :) Now to get all that music onto my mandolin, I may need divine guidance.
I can hear that Ricky. Definitely same key and progression is super similar. But emotions and spirituality? What you talking about... the lyrics praise the lord and hit harder than any Pearl Jam song ever written. Plus recycling of music has been going on forever.. see Henry Thomas bull doze blues I think you’ll recognize. You just can’t beat Jesus Christ
So good Bethel Music has been putting this in alot of there spontaneous worship arrangements. I wondered where it came from. I cant turn this off. I have it on repeat!
Written by our old friend Graham Ord, who is still alive and well in Kelowna BC Canada. Check him out as He’s written many absolutely amazing worship songs! 👍🏻
Psalm 103: 8-10 amen Praise the LORD Hallelujah Oh my Soul Praise the Lord Jesus Miracle Sign's and Wonder's of His great love 💔 Come Set Apart to love Him Hallelujah 🎺✌📯
The original version of this song was written and sung, by Graham Ord, when he wrote it him and his family were going through a terrible loss of a child He told the whole congregation that this song was one of the ways to deal with the grief.
It's one of the most heartfelt songs I know of. That's the hallmark of a good song, when it's from the heart it carries a particular resonance that connects with people. It should particularly be true of Christian worship songs, would that all of them had this honesty running through it.
The lord is gracious and compassionate slow to anger rich in mercy Goodmorning JESUS be with me lord help me to abide in your word for all good things comes from you
For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.
A little like Yellow Ledbetter. I was actually playing an instrumental version of this at a wedding reception and had a person ask me if it was Yellow Ledbetter ;)
I really dont like the girls voice whatsoever. The style she has adopted doesnt suit the music. It made it extremely difficult to enter i to the worship. But the band are top notch.
@@Charles.Wright perhaps, or maybe those leading it are not quite up to the task. I found her voice distracting, which made it difficult for me to enter what THEY WERE TRYING TO CREATE. This was their work, they have published it, and I get to offer a critique. It wasn’t to my palate. Though God knows I was merely stating a technical issue I had. Your comment suggests something far worst and questionable in my moral make up. That is something far greater and more serious than my meagre critique on the sound of a voice. Indeed, methinks someone’s firewood may well be wet. I’ll leave it to your generous and ripe judgements to decide for yourself. Very encouraging comment you offered. Thank you 🙏
Generally, I find it more useful to ask what barriers I've put up for myself in worship rather than questioning those who are trying to help me in my worship.@@xanderduffy6461

I must be getting old as this is still one of my favourite new songs.

Love the truth of the Lyrics❤
The intro on the electric guitar is sooo sublime❤
First year of uni 1998; first steps in putting together faith in God. This album was a big part of that.

Can anyone tell me who the vocalist is on this song?
Her name is Wendy Whitehead.
No her name Kathryn Scott
It is Wendy Whitehead 😊
Says Wendy O'Connell if you click on more...right below the title
Sounds like Pearl Jam song a bit? Or just me haha
Lol
grungy guitar?
A little like Yellow Ledbetter. I was actually playing an instrumental version of this at a wedding reception and had a person ask me if it was Yellow Ledbetter ;)
Or it could be guitar god Joe Walsh...
Im pharaoh Joseph Achilles Ishmael Moses isaiah Gidian Jesus
Cover of YellowLedbetter
Very similar guitar style, but using "cover" to describe this goes beyond hyperbole to just plain wrong.
It was written in about 1984 I think..
